Church was good and inclusive. I am always concerned people will feel left out. The attendance continues to grow with an increase of 30-40 year old with young children. I love seeing a good distribution of the multiple generations attending.

Lunch was excellent and easy to pull together. It was our first time trying the Smoked Chicken and it received thumbs up from everyone. I will add this dish as a freezer staple.

DD11 must have missed the lesson on WHY we go through the hassle of canning food. She was eager to open the jars of newly canned apples and eat them today. DD11 thought they turned out excellent and is requesting that we can more. In yesterday's class, I was introduced to the steam canning method. I used to do the water bath canning & pressure-cooking canning methods, but I had never tried steam canning. It feels like a total game changer. I am considering doing steam canning because it seems so much easier than water bath and/or pressure cooking. Note to self.....Girl, you are not thinking clearly! Just WHEN do you think you will have time to can? You need to get a clue and remember your priorities.

Hot and steamy here too.

I forgot I wanted to repot some of my plants, but there was a strong breeze blowing around 10 this morning so I started working on doing that. after a couple of hours it got to toasty for me so I jumped in the pool to cool off. Hopefully the morning will be cooler tomorrow and I can finish what I started.

Course y'all know there is a possible storm name Jennifer cooking up off the coast of Africa, with destination unknown. Weather people say they will be able to predict it better by this coming Sunday and of course I am due to fly to NJ on Tue. I'm sort of taking a wait and see attitude and not about to get upset if I have to change my plans.

However, not leaving anything to chance, I will make a WM run tomorrow to stock up on water, soup, crackers and some instant coffee so I can be better prepare. I have a rechargeable lantern and several small camp lights in case we loose power. I also bought plenty of AA batteries to keep everything going. I don't have a generator, but two tanks of propane gas so I can cook on my outside grill. I cash if needed and I'll fill up my bath tub. Can you tell I've been there and done this before :D

If Jennifer does not head this way, I'll be ready for the next storm. I've been through quite a few in my life time so I know what to do. The only thing different is Sweetie and I will need to attach our aluminum shutters to the house. Pain in the horse's patoot, but its required here. It will most likely take a full day to do so. We ordered accordion shutters to be permanently installed on our home, but they won't be ready till mid-Oct.

I suggested to Sweetie that he need to get his garage in better order because we will need to bet both cars in there if there is a storm. Right now he has his Cobra parked sideways. We need to do a bit of readjusting and things will be tight, but I know it can be done.

Dee...I hope you find some relief for both you and your DH. I'll be thinking of you

Well, I remember why I don't make egg salad -I hate peeling eggs. I really flunked the course today. Did finally end up with enough to make a decent salad for sandwiches tonight. I tried putting baking soda (as so many sites have said to do) and that surely didn't work.

Dh seems to be feeling better this afternoon, but then we're doing just about nothing and certainly nothing outside. It's over 90 and very humid. We're just not used to that at all.

I've done puttery things and necessary things all day.

Dee.. my friend who used to run a restaurant taught my how to make hard boiled eggs and her method never fails me.

Just get a pot of boiling water and then Steam your eggs for 15 minutes, then dunk them in cold water with ice. I never could get my eggs to peel until she taught me this. Works like a charm every time!!!

done with the one project for today.

dw is filled and running

I have asked dd older to help me with the ladder (putting back my mom's Alsatian pottery back on the shelf above the door.)
donations are in the garage for Thursday

Stomach is not happy! I took a t ums and a ginger ale and my stomach is still unhappy.

my, the humidity outside is stifling.

what I want to do:
finish washing the one cabinet - put in gat or Ade, water bottles, sparkling water in this cabinet. (right now the drinks are in the front hall, on top of small fridge in back, in garage on shelf. I don't know if these drinks are old or not.
vacuum the kitchen floor,
wash the counters,
wash the kitchen floor
clean the sink
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I put the cold eggs into an empty pot, cover with cold water, put a lid on the pot and bring to a boil. As soon as it comes to a boil, I turn off the stove and let the eggs sit for at least 15 minutes without taking the lid off at all. When I do lift the lid, the eggs are still piping hot and ready for eating. I will then drain the water and put the eggs in a bowl and put them in the fridge. I have no problem peeling them, but dh does. Sometimes I try to show him how to use a tablespoon to lift the shell away from the egg. He tends to get tired of that quickly. The eggs are getting chopped up any way, so they don't have to be picture perfect.

I have been freezing chopped apples. My goal is 2 gallons I am three forths of the way to that.
I fill a cool whip carton and then bag it up.
Using up the ripest ones is great some more will be going to the field and peels for deer.
I will still have a three gal bucket of them.
Not sure what to do with the rest maybe the thrift shop will take em.
Or the horses on my waling route.
Lots of memories of mom and gram doing up pies, breads, apple sauce, etc.
We had a tree too.

I lollygagged for several hours this afternoon. I know that I have a super busy week, so I just wanted to do the opposite of being busy.

DS14 and a friend went to the jumps to ride dirt bikes. DS14 bike broke while riding in the rough terrain so he had to push it home in the triple digit heat. He was not pleased. DS14 is learning that type of activity requires constant maintenance and repair of equipment. Also, there is the physical side of it - I am still bandaging him up each morning from the accident he had a week ago. I would think at some point it would become not worth the effort, time, and expense of equipment and pain to the body. But I'm not a dirt bike racer, so what do I know?

Random fact - 1970 and 2022 are as far apart as 1970 and 1918.

I took care of dd42's household Friday while DangerBoy had an audiology appt - all was well.

While I was there was the start of the time that the foundation company came and gave the house a lift - I don't know, maybe a lift and a tuck? lol. Cannot tell you how weird it was to think about my home of 43 years getting such an examination. In a way, it didn't need much, but in another way, everything just costs so much these days.

Yesterday we were boring. An extreme rainstorm was difficult for plants and trees. Sauna, yes, except the rain took temp down some for today.

Today we went to grocery, and I put some Desk Day into mail. There was a package in the box, a dress for me.

It fits fine but is four full inches longer than the one I sent back last week because it was a size too large (same exact style number, everything - why? ). I won't send this one back but will hem it, I suppose. I can't keep searching forever and at least this one doesn't require tedious fitting work like the too-large one would have. Disappointing to be postponed further, though.

Nancy, what will you do with your frozen apples, mostly, pies? With some cinnamon over oatmeal in the a.m. in wintertime would be a warm and friendly easy use.

Yes, blessed, ginger ale and saltine crackers if you have them!
