Saturday Solutions

Post by Harriet »

What will you solve today? Homemakers are the solvers, the figure-it-out-ers.

Will you be a detective into a new problem or are you already the expert who just needs a quick refresher to tackle an old one?

Did you "sleep on" a puzzle and come to a conclusion? Or do you maybe need one more sleep?

Is there an "outside the box" idea that might open up?

Is there a "Try, Try Again" in your future? :)

Morning….

I’m up and enjoying a slow morning. Had my coffee and shake and am planning my day. It’s gray and cold outside. My morning routines are done with the exception of making may bed. Gonna chance the sheets first. I have laundry to finish and want to bake my carrot bread.

The Australia Open Women’s final is on this morning so I’ll get my steps in while watching it. First up, getting dressed. Think it’s a jogging parts and sweatshirt kind of a day!

I would like to make a pork roast with crackling for supper tonight. The roast is currently in the fridge waiting to be cooked either tonight or tomorrow night.

I have emptied all of the garbage cans into a large green garbage bag. At least 2 of the garbage cans were full, but not over flowing just yet. I also have a bunch of cutlery and plates soaking in hot water waiting to go into the dishwasher. There is a large pot and a casserole dish on the stove. Both need to soak.

I also want to go to an embroidery class this morning. BUT it is a 6 month "course" I think. Not sure. I guess I should check the website. It will be at the same place as Friday knitting with some of the same people.

Lol! Your title and questions really apply to me this morning!

First, I'm still not dressed.

Reason: I've been messing with a data file I created, looking for a way to chart my weight over the past 2 decades *and* put in comments at key points. I eventually figured out how to make Excel do what I want and the result is a work of art.

Background: I've had a sudden, unexplained, drop in weight. Over the decades I've tracked my weight and written it down in a little book I keep in my dresser drawer. For the past few years, I've hung a calendar, well hidden from view, and written in weight (and blood pressure) and dh is using it now too. I pulled the book out this past week to transfer the numbers over to the book from the calendar before tossing the latter. I don't weigh daily (usually) or even weekly, but have at least a once a month reading for the past 21 years except no readings at all in 2021 and there are six month gaps from time to time. Interestingly, I ended 2020 and started 2022 at the same weight so the lack of data isn't an issue.

Along the weight readings I made note of what might be affecting readings. For instance when I started a particular program or gave up diet drinks, away for long trips, or illnesses, or major life events I thought might change my weight due to emotional eating. I'll never forget making my WW goal the same day dad died. So that's one of the comments.

Graphing the weight was no issue although I had to figure out how to change the axis so it started at 100. With it starting at zero, the fluctuations were not very visible. The hard part was how to add the comments so they appeared along the weight line, and vertically, not horizontally (therefore covering the weight line). To be honest I'm still not exactly sure how I did it so certainly can't explain the process, but it is done and, as I said, a work of art.

The unexplained drop in weight seems to have started at the beginning of December. The last weight I had for myself was December 8, down 2lbs from the week before. Then I avoided the scales until mid January when a neighbour commented I had lost weight. It was only 4 pounds but I'm down 9 pounds since April. So that might be what they saw, since we don't see each other often. In the next 2 weeks, I've dropped another 3 pounds. Still no idea why. Still have 4 pounds to go before my BMI drops below obese so I'm not overly worried yet. Just watchful.

I'll go get dressed now.

Then I'll try again to finish up the Residents' Association to-do list. The piles are getting smaller but there are still lots and lots of piles relating to that one topic. If I work hard I might get those files back into the music cabinet I have by my desk to store all those files.

Good Morning!

I 'm having a reluctant awesome start to my day. Reluctant because I intended to sleep in this morning. Awesome because I got a full 8 hours of sleep and my body was full of energy. I woke up all cozy and comfortable so I tried but couldn't talk myself into staying in bed after 5:30am.

When I changed my hourly step goal from 12 to 14 hours, I didn't realize how many things that would influence. I am working my way through the changes required. It seemed so easy when i made the decision but the follow up is harder to accomplish.

I have had a task on my OMM list for months. It seems hard and just keeps getting carried over. I'm still using the hip pad method so today I wrote the first baby step in accomplishing that task. BOOM! It was so easy that it was quickly accomplished. Now I am going to decide what 2nd baby step is and see if I can keep making progress on this important & procrastinated task.

Yes, homemakers are problem solvers!! I love that d harriet!
I loved being a homemaker even though I wasn't an Ordell or June clever - I keep on trying! I loved it all - not the mess but I loved my profession.

saying that the last months have been hard on my home - things are left out on a regular basis - I miss the put away spaces and can't keep up. When this happens I eat poorly at night.

My goal today:
see dh twice- bring clean cloths and take dirty cloths
I ordered bibs - his shirts are always wet from the trac - I know he will be so embarrassed but I need to keep his skin dry.
-I have to work in the basement to make room for the new freezer
-laundry is starting to build

I hope you all have a wonderful day!
hi d lady,
hi d harriet
hi d twins,
hi d Kathryn
hi d cathy
hi d rose
hi d everyone!!!
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I would love to go back upstairs and play with deed mapping again. I've been mapping deeds for a group of men of my surname. I am descended from one of that family (confirmed by DNA0 but can't figure out where my William (1796-1863) fits in the family tree. I'm hoping that by platting my later William deeds along with the older ones, an apparent neighborhood for my William will emerge with a father candidate(s). So there's my problem needing a solution. This is something I've wanted to work on for several years, but with the portfolio I didn't have the bandwidth or the knowledge to work it efficiently. Now I have both

Immersion in the class this week has been so complete I almost feel like I've been out of town or away for a week. Dh is going to want to go to the river this afternoon but I think I'll resist. We have a dinner to attend this evening - for the out of town rabbi who was our former rabbi here. Harriet his visit was not in connection with Holocaust remembrance day events. The January remembrance is an international designation and corresponds with the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. (Honestly, we observe Yom HaShoah with began in Israel in 1949. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_HaShoah_)

Anyway, all that to say that we'll be out this p.m. with a comfortable and casual "small intimate dinner" with this rabbi. (Wonder how many are invited???) And there's nothing on the calendar tomorrow if I can make it until then.

bw2, I haven't had anything near the life you've had lately, and feel things are slipping out of control. I can only imagine how you and Dee are feeling trying to keep up.

Yes, Dee, I think I'd be losing my mind with family coming in to be with you right now. It's probably hard for them to understand, but they aren't seeing the day to day activities that you and dh have to stay healthy through next weekend.

I would have made this week's step goal if it were last week at 49K steps for the week, but I raised it slightly and won't get there. I've gotten in the steps I have because I've walked the impatient ddog around the circle once or twice at nearly every break in the class.

Update, even before I posted: Agreement with dh that we'll go to the river awhile today, and I will have nothing on my plate except what I choose for tomorrow. (I want to go to river and see friends but I am just t.i.r.e.d.

Thanks, Twins. So glad you gals understand our place at this point. Just adding in that one thing -with all the nieces coming to visit was that "Straw"! Think they understand our whole viewpoint now.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Helia today! Hope Helia checks in with us before long.

I've been busy doing 'things' ever since I go up. Slept halfway decently, except I slept in the recliner part of the night. I'd gotten up for a bit and then dh had all the covers and I couldn't get them pulled my way. I finally did go back to the bed with just my "Hallmark Christmas Movie Watching" blanket. I managed to keep covered with that -barely!

Does anyone know if you need internet to have video surveillance? Know DS-R plans to put it in at his Uncle's house but I'm not sure what's needed to do that. I know we have "Ring" here but that needs internet.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

I’m taking it slow this morning. Haven’t s2s or anything… just going to watch ballgame with dh and maybe read a little.
Dh and Dgd went to Hardee’s and brought back our breakfast. She is now locked in on her iPad and I’m so lazy I am just glad it is fully charged.
Dgs has a ballgame at 8:00 pm.
Tomorrow is another day.
