Oh my goodness, Harriet! Your doctor's appointment was worse than dh's with the cardiologist who won't listen and doesn't believe what he does hear dh say! I would have been mad too!!! (((BIG HUGS))) I told dh about how anyone who goes to the doctor in LadyM's house gets a treat (that's why we went to Olive Garden the other day) and boy... you deserve a BIG treat for sure!!!

And (((ROSE))) Credit card mess ups are sooo frustrating. Plus buying tires... not something you look forward to, either!
(BTW -- my dmom says her hair is coming in dark again underneath, on the back of her head.)

AND (((Kathryn)))... frustrating customer service. That is ridiculous that she can't take your money but she CAN * after * you lose the bonus?

AND (((Twins))) for frustrating dh and trip plans...

WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE??? We aren't under a full moon, are we?
I think it is that (1) the world is going crazy and (2) since Covid, no one really wants to work anymore. Sigh.

(((Elizabeth))) so sad about dRamsey.
I was encouraged by the behavior of two trucks coming into town this morning. There was a little dog going back and forth in the street, just a few blocks out of the town square, and I was so afraid he was going to dart in front of me... and then I met two diesel trucks and I just knew one of them would hit him, but I could see the one in front slowing... s l o w i n g... and I think they both passed the dog safely. This was just out of town and the speed limit is about 30 mph there, but a lot of people go faster till they see the first red light.

Blessed, I can sooo relate to what you are saying about feeling sluggish after you ate too much. I am exactly like that. I have been waiting and eating breakfast later (I mean like after noon or so!) the past couple days, and I really feel better and have more energy, before I stop to eat. I know in my case, if I eat too many carbs, I'll get that sugar rush and then a BIG hypoglycemic crash. I mean, I have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia... but it is just too much effort and/or I don't like the high protein foods that are available for breakfast, so I am kinda experimenting with later breakfast, and maybe a "second breakfast" a couple hours or so later, with cheese, deli turkey, and crackers -- which works pretty well if I don't overdo on the crackers.
But any big meal will do this to me. Last night I had a pork potato -- much like LadyM is preparing, I think --
BIG baked potato, pulled pork, cheese, bacon bits, chives (no butter/sour cream, because I don't like it)... and a small serving of baked beans... and five (I think) hush puppies from dgs' plate. (He didn't want them.) AND a slice of coconut pie.
I had to take a nap an hour later.

Waving hello to EVERYONE!!! LadyM, Cathy, Nancy, Mystery (hope your dd feels better soon!)

Looks like you are ALL doing a lot better than me at keeping up with all the * stuff. *

Well, I'm not going to say it can't get worse because that is just asking for trouble... ;) but I can put maybe half a check mark beside two of the OMM craziness list items. This morning I got a plant ordered for the dfriend's funeral; we'll go to the visitation tonight... and I FINALLY got in touch with the ServPro people in College Town. They will send someone out to get an estimate on our damage and what they can do and should call me back by tomorrow.

A lot I could be doing around here to prep for cousin's visit, but OTOH, part of me leans into dh's philosophy. People should not just invite themselves for a three day/night stay. (His brother once invited himself and stayed SEVEN days/nights with us, along with his wife and two children!)
IMHO, if someone wants to visit, they should call and say, "Hey, we've got to be in town for a few days next week to take care of some estate stuff. We'll get a hotel and call y'all when we get there, maybe go out and eat..."
and THIS gives the gracious Southern belle hostess the opportunity to say, "Of course you will not get a hotel! Y'all come on and stay with us..."
OR... the stressed-out not-so gracious Southerner could say, "That's great! Just call us as soon as you get to town and we'll meet y'all at _____"

I guess I should go double check the bedroom, put sheets on the bed, and make sure it doesn't need any extra cleaning.
Also would like to go ahead and get packed for the weekend because tomorrow may be super-hectic.
Tomorrow is another day.

I went and laid down after my last post. Got a text and an automated phone call regarding the time of delivery for the couch tomorrow. (Between 1 and 4 p.m.) We have someone coming to assist us in getting the old couch out of the house and onto the back of the truck tonight. I also read for a bit until dh and the smallest cat came in for a visit and then they started playing.

Chicken drumsticks are in the oven with my home made version of shake and bake. (Bread crumbs with garlic powder added, pour into a large zippered bag and throw the chicken in, close the bag and shake it all together.)

Dh wants mashed potatoes and corn as sides. Both very easy to make now that I have discovered "fake" mashed potatoes from a box. Both take less than 5 minutes.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

Hello everyone. What a day.

Harriet, I can't imagine that Dr. Appointment. I have not had a wonderful GP appointment since I switched drs. and got this one that makes me wait an hour in her exam room with the wave machine going non-stop whoosh whoosh whoosh till I just want to scream. I know I've told that before. Then she scribbles all over my lab report and I can't read her scribbles and I can't keep up with her and can't remember what she did say to me so it's all pretty useless I'd say. If I had an elevator I'd be stomping out too. It used to be worse when we all had to wear masks and by the time I got out of there I was claustrophobic and felt like I couldn't breath. Oh, I remember seeing Crowder peas in a can one time and I bought them just to find out what you were talking about here! We ate them but I don't remember how they were or if I liked them! Pretty unremarkable I'd say. If you find a good sweet potato recipe like that please share, I'd like to try.

Twins, wow what a day. I've had similar.
Kathryn, BWTG getting on top of things. I must remember how to do that, just disconnect from the world! Kinda like we'd do back in the old days by taking the phone off the hook. Now if we do something like that people panic they can't get to us. And call our husbands!

Elizabeth, so sad about Ransey. I am wondering, even if they came at separate times, was Ruth his friend? Or buddy? I feel sad too.

RRose, matching tread...is that really a thing? Our tires never seem to match. DH gets ours wherever there is a deal. One time he put one on the SUV that he'd saved from a truck. It was the right size but it was the ugliest wheel I've ever seen, and no hubcap and I was sure glad when that tire wore out and we could replace it. We are anything but fancy around here. My bank lobby in both banks are almost always empty. I used to run through a bank drive-in and pay a credit card every month and every month without fail the clerk would tell me I could do that online. Service with a smile, not. Did she actually not want to take my money? sigh... and I keep forgetting to answer your question about our weather. Every year at Christmas when we go away to DD's I expect to come home to frozen veggies in the garden. It always seems to get cold the end of December. Then I usually think if I get through February, March generally warms up again, no freezing weather. April is our driest month, no April showers, ever. So look for milder cooler in December. November is still pretty warm.

Today was 102° and I had taken DH to HD as I am on constant limousine duty to drive him to the entrance of anyplace he wants to go and pick him up as he comes out. Sigh...I'll be glad when this knee gets fixed. Today I didn't want to just sit there in the sun waiting so drove across the service road to get us ice cream which melted in record time.

Mystery, hope you don't catch DD's Covid.

Lucylee, good to know. I now know what to say when I show up at your door... but yes I know what you mean about people coming and staying. I haven't had anyone come in a while, but generally I run around like a crazy person if someone is going to be here.

Hair color: y'all should have my problem. I have grey some mostly at the top but there is a spot right in the middle that is the worst and the grey is the exact color as my scalp and this spot gets bigger before anyplace else greys and it LOOKS like a bald spot...which it's not, it's just abnormally grey... and the reason I keep coloring is because of that. If it wasn't for that I'd probably let it grow out. I think it does make me look younger when I cover the grey.

Think I'm exceeding my data limit here.... but we were busy out in the garage. DH has had a honey-do chore out there for 15 years...yes at least that long. We have our central plumbing thing where all the pipes come together in a thing at the wall, and DH had just covered it with drywall but it wasn't screwed on so that it could be removed easily for repairs. So he cut that off and we screwed a fiberglass panel overtop with nice screws and little round washer-like things...so it can be removed if necessary. I did a lot of cleaning around there and up on the top of the wall where the mud daubbers had nests, what a mess...but all fixed now. And of course, the trip to H.D. to get correct screws and washers. 1 million screws in this place but none that were just the right ones  although he said my ice cream cost more than his screws ...

Ok, I'll stop now. Have a nice night and I appologize if I've missed anyone. Blessed comes to mind...

I am greatly relieved the meal for 100+ went smoothly. I was thrilled to receive several compliments. I documented how long it took to prepare each part so next time I'll have a plan to follow. I am so relieved that I didn't flub up the food. I suspect I will sleep well tonight.

I managed the long walk. My fitness watch pegged it at 5.55 miles. I was much slower on the way back than the way there but when we got to the road from the pathways, we were just a few feet away from the road straight home that has buses on it and I turned in the other direction and told dh if he didn't find taking it really slow, I thought I could do it. I couldn't figure out why that road was also considered the faster route but when I measure it out later online, it looks like it would save me about 10th of a mile.

The route we took, though, was more pleasant. And on the way there, we took the river path so that was lovely although added another quarter mile to the overall trip. The bridge was really windy so I was worried about losing my hat and didn't fully enjoy it. The views are pretty amazing, though.

When I got home I had water, then stretches for 10 minutes of so, then watered down lemonade while icing my knees. I'm pretty sore. Dh went to be over an hour ago but I got distracted. Off to bed now.

LOL, Harmony! I admit, when it comes to overnight guests, I am a reluctant hostess.
I don’t mind so much a drop in guest for an afternoon visit — it’s just when they stay… and I have to think about more than one meal… and they have time to notice all the cr@p that is messed up in this house, or the fact that we haven’t redecorated or changed anything in 40 years…

A more serious note — Dmom has an infection, most likely in her stomach lining. He prescribed an antibiotic but said if she gets ANY worse between now and Friday, go to the ER immediately. So… ? My weekend is kinda up in the air now. Hate to disappoint dh and dgrands with no ballgame trip, hate to not be here for dmom, just waiting and praying the rx works and she will see improvement soon.
Tomorrow is another day.

I appreciated the kind agreement here that I really did have a tough appt yesterday!

Hoping the antibiotic helps, lucylee.

How nice you can feel virtuous and relieved, LadyM.

Harmony, melty ice cream in the car while waiting, yipes! could you take along an ice pack when you go out! ?

Today was taken up by visits. A friend came and brought homegrown tomatoes he found at a roadside stand and thought of us - how nice. He stayed a long time and mostly talked to HRH. He doesn't look well, but it is partially because he has to wear a really large, cumbersome back brace, which he gets to take off tomorrow.

Later dstepson, who is of course not really company, stayed a long time. He had quite a story to tell about finding that he was the one and only person a co-worker knew in our area  when the coworker had to have a horrible-sounding emergency operation and be sent "home" to hotel ( ? ) with very heavy drugs and orders for constant attentive care! He had had to come here because no other surgeon in several states would do the operation, even though he was being seen in Atlanta. Dstepson ended up taking him home with him to dstepdil, and one or the other stayed up all night last night, until closer friends could arrive to drive him home and drive his own vehicle home.

I had a good talk with dd25 tonight about anything and everything. We were both giving advice - she mentioned that she hoped we were also each willing to take it, lol. Yes, there's the rub.

I did get the dailies done. Further than that, not so much.

Playing in the garden today was fun now that temps are lower. Got some more watering done after the weeding I did this morning.
Got a few smaller branches and herb plants that I dug out picked up.
Good news the neighbors found a person to adopt their cat the wife died in the spring and the husband went to a full care home this week.
So that is a relief.
The sunset was lovely tonight glad I can see the horizon on my deck.
Finished reading that book I've been working on the past week or so glad it is done.
out the chili I did not eat in jars for later my freeze that up small servings.

Hi everyone. This week just keeps stinking. My parents have been planning a trip out here for a year. We will camp under the eclipse with the RV club, see Dad's cousin who is passing through, visit DD21, and have a Halloween party. Except that my brother is off the wagon and carpooling. He lost his job recently and that is obviously stressful, but he has a YEAR AND A HALF severance! He could get just about any job and have enough for all the current college expenses + regular life. He will still have to save for the youngest, but he is SEVEN, I think there is time. He has been separated from his car and is going into rehab. My parents are rethinking their trip but have not turned in their airline tickets. My other brother is (for now) back on the wagon. I am their only non-alcoholic child.

My classes were very useful, but I have a lot of changes to make in a project now. I worked on making a list of what needs to be done. RV club meeting attended, cat litter purchased, catboxes cleaned, trash out, outdoor feeding station modified so food stays dry.

I'm glad I have a camper, no one has to feel bad if they can't put me up and THEY can visit ME in my tiny little house on wheels.

No grey here ever! Strawberry blondes just get blonder and blonder until someone notices they have white hair. In between, people ask who did my highlights.

In answer to Harmony's question, Ruth and Ramsey are almost certainly aware of each other and are not enemies or friends. Cat colonies have common areas that are not exactly shared, but different cats have use of at different times of day. I have an auto feeder with several pounds of food and an auto waterer with more than enough, plus the water in the ditch behind my house. If I did not put enough out, my yard would likely become disputed territory. They would probably have co-existed peacefully in my house once they figured out the food to cat ratio was in their favor.

Still more daily chores to get done.
