I was 'getting a move on' but then came the announcement after about 2 minutes of the fire alarm saying "This is NOT A DRILL, I repeat, NOT A DRILL, everyone evacuate!" Then I really got a move on!

I had done my normal check both side looking for smoke (saw none) and I knew the building we are joined to underground was having their fire alarm testing today so I told myself it wasn't important. I didn't check the hall like I usually do, otherwise I might have started leaving faster since there was smoke smell when I did leave.

I did think to take my walking poles with me (along with my prepacked computer bag with my laptop, purse, and water bottle added to it) and my phone power bank knowing my laptop bag had any charging cables I could need. Phone was already on me. I still haven't found my earbuds though, the case is empty in my pocket and I can't recall what I was doing when the alarm started.

It was a kitchen fire on the second floor, other end of the building but every window is open to air it out. The smell is much less this time than the last big fire we had (we've had to minor kitchen fires since the big fire, plus one in the garbage room and one in the dumpster outside.)

Last time we were anxious to get upstairs to open up and that walk up the stairs was awful with the smell of smoke. This time we went for our walk since we couldn't do anything else but sit around outside and I thought it might settle my knees down after the walk downstairs. I checked in with all my special seniors, searching out one of my favourites whose apartment was across from the fire. All were fine. On our way back a neighbour pulled over in her car and let us know the all clear had been called. We applauded the fire trucks as they pulled out and dh went up right up, I sat downstairs talking with friends until there was no longer a lineup for the elevators.

Before the alarm, I managed to get all the house blessing done except for my floors mopped. I started to do that when I got back and then decided to rest for a bit and reset my brain. I'll go do that now.

I'm working on the revision for the Q. I have hopes of finishing it this week.

Ddog is being mostly patient. Every time she comes through bothering me I give her a treat.

House blessing finished, including laundry folded and put away. We'll have burgers for dinner and I think I can convince dh to have them at home, not going out.

I just walked the dog around the block and I am so cold! Who knew that fifty-five degrees could feel like this? I'll never be warm again and I'll never survive the winter!

This is a probably a low step count day but I had 8K steps yesterday, unusual for a Sunday. The art festival helped. Despite two days of low step counts last week I came out on target for the week. Last Monday, when we came home, I only had 3K steps.

Surprise! Dh just called about dinner out, so I'm shutting down the upstairs computer and getting the dog in and going.

I am tired. dd younger is overwhelmed by d mom's current situation. Mom can not be on her own except for sleeping - she is great with us (if she takes her meds) but her home has gone higgely piggly. Mom was really off when my brother came in last week and this last Friday. really off. being here has made moms almost unnoticeable dementia become front and center. really bad - she has never not known who dd younger was with being related to me or to her. she asked dd older why I was being so nice to her helper. she wasn't taking her meds. hiding them.

now that she had been on her meds the last few days and I and dd took turns staying over night - made her more herself. it's been hard and dd and I are exhausted. It's long long days. I wish she lived here as it would still be a lot of work but I would know what was going on.

The great of it: I have mom here all day or are out with her all day.
today I made us quiche from the left over ham she loved. She helped make the salad and swept the floors and did some dishes from lunch. she helped a lot!!!
I had planned on just making a chicken soup with an apple tart on the side. (one of my dogs ate the chicken when I walked out of the room
beef stock has been cooking all day.

halloween cauldron is out in front. dear Neighbor had a bunch of branches off her service berry and I used it to make teepee branches so that I could hang the cauldron. I put some of our fire place logs under the hanging cauldron and placed orange lights interwoven in the logs. it was fun to do!

also my dear new neighbor showed me her new plantings and work.. absolutely beautiful!!!!

the kitchen looks like a tip ;) 8-) beef stock is cooling
we ordered Biaggi's for d mom and dd's - the dinner I had planned went literally to the dogs  ; not my plan but mom is well fed and happily watching murder she wrote.
I figure I will sit with d mom a bit as I don't want to her to be alone. dd's are in the kitchen chatting away.
I am eating this up!
I have a little less than 2 weeks left with them but it all depends on mom.

time to clean up.

have a lovely evening!
