Thursday at full throttle

Post by Harriet »

So, yesterday being "back on track", maybe we can continue the little train that could idea!

By Thursday of this week, is your household at full throttle, or chugging along nicely, or waiting for a signal ... ...

I’m with you Harriet!

It’s laundry day here. I didn’t finish my entire list because I had to help Sweetie with some things.

Last night he went to change the outside light on our garage and misplaced the light bulb. Recently when I tried to help him when something similar happened he got very angry with me. Not like him and he called me a dictator. He has never called me names and even though I knew it was the disease talking it hurt my feelings. I am human after all.

Over dinner the others night we were able to talk through that episode and he was able to tell me it’s best for him to leave him alone when he tries to find something he’s misplaced. I explained that I was only doing what I’ve always done and that is to help him. In the past this wasn’t and issue, but that was before the Alzheimer’s.

Anyway Sweetie asked me just to let him hunt for whatever he can’t find and that is he needed help he would ask me. So that’s what happened last night. When he finally gave up his search for the light bulb he misplaces he asked for help.

We searched everywhere including the trash, the dishwasher, the oven and his office and still came up empty. We still haven’t found it, but we did have a good laugh over it.

I’ll let y’all know what safe place Sweetie put it in when it shows up. :D:

11:30 already. I slept in until nearly 9 a.m. because we were up late last night when dd came in. Got her at airport about 10:30 and stayed up awhile talking.

I have a workout today and will be cooking a brisket for shabbat dinner for tomorrow night. I think ds is coming and A, of A & V, will come. V is out of town.

Dh isn't working today or tomorrow so he can be available for dd. I think they're going for a walk later at the river here. They're lounging and talking now.

I need to get busy again before I go off track too far!

Today feels like I'm in neutral.
I have been decluttering the butterfly room and rounding up items for the gift bags & baskets I'm assembling.
It is a relief to have more surfaces & work spaces cleared yea for progress.
Sort of feels like puttering in a way.
I am 3/4ths of the way done with this room.
Trying to get the umpft to do that last surface.
Nearly nine & I need to get dressed. [Did that.]
Making progress on the next surface might be in 1st gear!]
Up at full steam ahead or pretty much walk is done.

hi d Nancy!!
and to everyone hello!!!

waving and wishing you all a wonderful day!!!! Such a joy to be with you!!

mom is happy as can be at her place - dd is late on giving meds to mom. I am torn on leaving mom at her home until dinner time bc of her habit of not drink water but I am going to try to use the camera - call her and ask her to get her water and drink - I will be able to see if she drinks. (fingers crossed)

I am enjoying the quiet for a moment! I feel at peace and I am just enjoying it!

knock on wood dh's new Montgomery trac is a blessing to him! - so much easier! He is smiling and moving around like he used to. Keeping fingers crossed. There are no guarantees that this continues but I am taking it and celebrating it!

Blessed…happy for you and your husband.

I am taking a break for lunch. Was able to complete all my to-do tasks. Laundry had been starts.

The weather here is spectacular! High temp today is 80* and night time will fall to 62. I am celebrating the change in weather and will take myself for a walk after lunch. I have some errands to run, but I’m going to push them off so I can enjoy the weather before it changes

I will have laundry waiting to fold when I get back, but not going to worry about it now :D:

Good morning!

Harriet - Thank you for the start today.

I am not at full throttle but am making progress while doing a consistent slow and steady speed.

Last night DH and I returned to what used to be our normal doings at church. We went to church meal followed by group Bible study. I didn't eat the food because of surgery recovery but I totally enjoyed sitting and visiting with friends while they ate. I enjoyed the comradery of being in the kitchen with friends as we work as a team to get things done. I enjoy group discussion and sharing of our beliefs where we challenge each other to learn. Between DH multiple TGA episodes and my multiple surgeries it has been 6 months of reduced church attendance. That is a vital part of my life that I totally enjoy and have missed the most. I am so thankful we are finally at a point that we can resume it.

I made an egg omelet for me this morning. I won't want to eat anything else for several hours. I cooked Zatarain's dirty rice with hamburger meat for the family. There is homemade salsa and grated pepper jack cheese to put on top.
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.

Progress here, I'm not a full throttle perhaps but I have some bursts of activity. I'm having a snack now before my workout, dh and dd are out. Brisket is going in the oven - it's braised, low temp with liquid. Dd wanted some when she was home and we didn't have enough left over at RH to save for big meal. This one was 10 lbs. What we don't use will go into the freezer for another meal for us. I cleaned up kitchen after, even did a little sweeping to get onion skins and all up.

After workout I need to go by temple and pick up a cemetery check to deposit. Dh and I are eating out tonight - I think dd is making other plans.

I am still on putt putt mode 8-)

dd younger gave me a lovely gift - she went gave mom water and meds, mom has lunch, and dd younger is calling mom and asking her to drink water while seeing her on the camera. She told me to take the afternoon (until 4) to enjoy.
Mom is very happy when I spoke to her.
Mom usually wants to come with her to our house when she drops off her meds but today she told mom - how wonderful to have some time doing things at your apartment. My mom was thrilled. It's all in attitude (lol most times)

so far -
s2s :D
dd played with dogs/fed them/watered them/fed mom/meds mom yay :D
paperwork done! :D
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I'd be afraid to say I'm at full throttle, but I am back. I apologize for disappearing the last several days -- I know I get concerned when one of you is out of the loop for any length of time -- but I'm just having a hard week. Yesterday was exactly six months since dh's funeral, and Saturday would be our 45th anniversary. Sunday is ds's birthday and we're having his party Monday night. The weather is getting cooler and I dread winter so much. I hate cold weather, and I dread Christmas. And Thanksgiving. I'm just having a hard week.

BUT -- when I finally did get up this morning * It WAS before noon, I promise * -- I decided that I had to pull myself together and I did my morning stretches, straightened out the bed, s2s, put on some make-up, did my Bible reading, and went to the post office. I called my mom and talked to her awhile, made sure Monday was good for her for ds's birthday, and I've started a load of laundry. I also finished putting the groceries away -- it was just a bunch of cokes and water bottles that were still sitting in the floor beside the refrigerator.
I'm trying to call a dfriend in my teacher group to check on her -- she has missed our first two meetings and I thought I should reach out and make sure all is well with her family. She is over 80 years old, but has always seemed in good health. But I think I should get my mind off myself and reach out to someone else.

I bet that brisket is going to be delicious, Twins! I really think I should start cooking for myself, at least once a week maybe? Just spaghetti or something like that? As you said, I could always save leftovers for another meal. It's just hard to break the habit of going out for fast food or something.
I hope you have a really good time with your dd visiting. A walk by the river sounds really nice.

Your rice and hamburger meat sounds good, too, LadyM! I'm so glad you are past all the dental surgery. I can't bear to think about going through all that. IKWYM about missing church -- I've missed Sunday School the past two weeks, and last week didn't go at all because dgs was with me and he was sick. The week before, we all went to a nearby church where ds' band was playing. That was fun, but I missed my normal crowd.
I have been to the Wednesday night services though, since I'm the teacher, LOL.

* Side note * There's a new man coming to church now -- he's in his late 60s, widowed, and probably showing some signs of dementia. Plus, he cannot hear thunder. I think he dosed off during our class last night. I told the lady next to me, it's not the first time I've put a student to sleep. But I really don't know what to make of him... he doesn't contribute anything to our discussion, and I think he probably can't hear what we're saying... but he keeps coming. So it's usually us three or four widows and him. :?

I'm so glad the weather is good for y'all, Rose! You are overdue for some calmer seas, aren't you!
even though I knew it was the disease talking it hurt my feelings. I am human after all.
(((BIG HUGS))) I can't imagine how hard this is for you. It is so good that y'all can laugh about some of the things that are happening, but I know it must be scary for both of you.

And blessed, I am so glad things are going so well for your dh! Plus, I continue to be amazed at how well you and your ddaughters manage your mom!
I am so terrified of having to be a caregiver for my mother... I just do not do well in those kinds of situations.

Nancy -- you may FEEL like you are in neutral, but you certainly sound like you are full-throttle today!

Harriet... I think I can, I think I can... yes... I will try to hold that thought.
Tomorrow is another day.
