DS and I will be talking to the accountant about this before either of us file our taxes this year.
Gosh, I wish Heaven had a telephone. I would really like for dh to explain this to DS and the accountant.
And I also hope DS and I can figure out dh's notes to ds's satisfaction -- tiny little writing, and some of it doesn't make good sense, because it says "car and truck tags" and DS only had one truck -- but one line says plainly "(DS) has 0 in bonds" which I take to mean he had exhausted the principal/face value of the money in the bonds. This was dated long after DS graduated college -- when he needed tires for his truck, dh took it out of the bonds and we gave him a check out of our checkbook; when he needed a new heat pump at his house, dh took it out of the bonds and we wrote him a check... and dh kept this in meticulous notes -- date... bond balance... interest paid to DS... BUT it all sorta runs together on these tiny memo pad sheets... five sheets so far.
On a good note -- I did find the last five years of returns! I don't know what kept me from seeing them earlier, but there they are, right where they should be. Just in a different drawer of the filing cabinet. I'm going to have to clear out some of this... put that new shredder to work. I don't know how far these envelopes go back, but certainly more than the recommended seven years. Shaking my head. I am pretty sure I have every cancelled check we have ever written. I do not need to leave all this for DS to deal with some day.
OH -- and the other day, in my searching, I found that dh had saved every letter, note, etc, that I EVER wrote him... even back when I was in school... and oh my...
Anyway, I have completed the math for this year's return -- adding up our medical expenses, etc. and whenever DS can go over there with me, I think I will take mine to the accountant ASAP.
Sad, looking at dh's medical...
But I think I have it done as closely to the way he always did it as is possible.
Time for bedtime routine. It's not even 12:30 yet! I'll be watching TV for a while, but I feel pretty good about today. Let's hope I can put two good days together!
