Image * * * Good Morning! * * * Image

trissie, thanks for the start, sorry you had to be up so early. I can see how the "middle" kids can be a bit left out sometimes, I was a middle kid - in my case four kids mean there are two middle kids, NotDearBrother and I, but he was the only boy, with 3 sisters so it was different for him. I was the middle girl. Anyway shopping with them can be a great time. I think you enjoy shopping for clothes ? Sometimes I wonder, since I hate shopping for clothes myself, if I will "pass it on" to my kids when going with them to buy clothes...

kittykatt have a good time at church. Glad to read you had a good time last night.

I Hope Bama and Gma are asleep now.

Hugs (( )) and WTGs to all SHEs here who take care of elderdly parents, be they at nursing homes or in their homes.

Beautifully sunny day here, all windows are open, and some flies are buzzing in the LR. The sound to me is a reminiscence of childhood summers in my grandparents home, they napped in early afternoon and we were supposed to be silent  and got bored a bit, and there were flies buzzing - but those were rather happy times so I like that sound.
MrNG took both DSs to a home improvement store that is open on Sundays, in the morning - in France not many stores open on Sundays. We're almost finished with DS9's homework, so glad the school year will end soon (first week of July) and he can forget his nasty teacher, madame C---. She's writing mean comments on his notebooks, every time it's not perfect. Who has time to write mean things on every notebook at the end of a teaching day, I wonder...

TADAs
all up and fed
breakfast cleaned up
lol in, now on drying rackin the sun
homework with both DSs
some gardening

TODOs before the day is over (among other things)
a bit of homework left
vacuum in DS9's bedroom
have talk with DS6 who did something really mean and dirty to his brother yesterday - not sure if we will "punish" or severely lecture or what
review weekly to-do list
make next week's to-do list
relax, meditate

That's a very early start to your day, trissie. I hope the shopping trip is fun and bonding! I always enjoyed shopping for clothes for my girls more than for ds. :)
Enjoy your beautiful sunny day, FFB!
I hope church was good and coffee with E was fun Kitty! You're probably eating your Sunday lunch now.
Mmm.... Sounds like you're eating some great food today, Bama. That is cute about your turkey and his new friend!!
Gma, you are a wonderful source of medical information here! Thank you so much!! Dh has grants from the NIH and so far, (I think) they're intact. Some of his research is more biomedical engineering-y. There are all sorts of applications for his mm sized sensors. He has A LOT of different projects.
Enjoy the tournament and walking with your friend, L Ann!

In our family, the middle child, now dd29, actually got most of the attention because she was that kind of person - always craved attention. Also, she had some mental health issues in high school that required more involvement from us; dd26 as an adult told us that we were a bit focused on dd29 in our family, and she wished she could have had more of our attention. Dd26 is naturally very independent. Or maybe that's a trait of the youngest? Weekly one-on-one dates with each of our kids helped. (Alternating parents.) We all do our best, can't do anything better than that.

Sunshine today! 45* now but warming up to 68*F.

Today, I'll hopefully go visit Mom soon and then go to local church 10-11. I'll go for a jog this afternoon. I think we're hosting Sunday dinner + R's bday dessert tonight. He didn't want a full bday dinner, just a dessert. I think dd26 is making the dessert.

Well the girls are making me regret it before we even leave, because they are fighting again (I think over a sweatshirt?), but I have my plans for the errand as well, so off we go!

helia, it's always the "problematic" child that gets the attention, and as a parent, it's hard to find that trend. Some do better, some don't even try. My mother didn't :-(
enjoy the tournament, L.Ann!

Wow busy place especially since trissie started so early. 5 ish is my usual start time. Except not productive till 6 or 7. I hope you have a good shopping trip. I'd love to have a shopping day with just me and dd. Oh now I could take ddil along. Maybe one day I will have to try that. Dd is too far away and once they get here it's not happening going somewhere else to shop.

The family dynamic with my kids is different. I think I did ok with divide between the older 2. Although a bit more prone to dd. She was homeschooling for the last of high school. Ds 26 you know I think he was quite independent. Spent some weekend days with grandpa in the shop. But ds 15? That is where I feel like I don't know how. He is almost an only child now. But he barely communicates at times. Sometimes he can talk my ear off. But independent. Socially challenged. Very easy he likes to be home by himself. I feel guilty cause I don't know how to make it feel like we're connecting. At least he's kitchen oriented and willing most times to go grocery shopping. This is my reason for asd testing process coming up. As per school he's doing amazing now.

I made myself stay in bed till 6. Last night was a bit of a wash. Usually is. Just sad cause spending time with mom she just is not herself anymore.

Sunday. I'm contemplating a quick mix up some brownies. Church is a bit of a celebration as a dear friend is going to start working on staff at church. Prayer of dedication and then lunch after. I could make something yet. Dh seems inclined after that maybe together we could do some clean up outside. We'll see what happens.

I'm going to add to my morning routine.

Priority list

Basic routines
Kitchen clean
Bake brownies
Church
Today is a home day after
See what we can do outside

Today's tada list

Take b12
Shower and clean my shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry

Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some
Mix up brownies and bake
Tidy kitchen all the way
Finish getting ready for church

Hi L.Ann, I envy your walks with a friend. I wish my (few) friends lived nearby. Enjoy !

helian any suggestions on what to do during a one-on-one date with a kid ? If you have time to share. it was one of my goals for the year, and I think last year already, but I never have any idea, or just "hey let's play lego" and then the other kid eventually joins in so it's not one-on one.

trissie I see my siblings once a year at Christmas in Paris - when we do the trip - we didn't last Christmas. I exchange a few emails a year with DSisYounger, we used to be close, but life is busy... And she lives in Nice so it's a long way from Brittany. DSisOlder and I can exchange email twice a year or so, for the kids' birthdays. I don't talk with brother, even in the same room, even to say pass the salt. Long story. I hope the shopping went well. Do they fight often ?

Laura it's nice to read your DS is now doing well at school. I seem to remember you posting about him having difficulty at school in first grade - a long time ago, on the other boards - and your picture was a picture of him I think. I was working as a teacher then and it made me think about ADD. I hope he's happy with his life as it is. (())

Hi kitkat ! Hi Gma !
Hi everyone else and lurkers !

We got rid of many snails. We collected them from the walls (under the roof mostly) and the hedge, with a ladder and put them in a cardboard box then went to the nearby soccer field (DS9 biked) and freed them in the hedges there. Last year slugs and snails and the wet weather caused our garden to suffer many losses - including squash and cucumbers and strawberries - and we don't want that again. I want to catch more, maybe early morning, and do the same thing again.

TADAs
a bit of homework left
vacuum in DS9's bedroom
MrNG made lunch, I cleaned up
review weekly to-do list
did 15 minutes piano
did 3 mns meditation

TODOs before the day is over (among other things)
have talk with DS6 who did something really mean and dirty to his brother yesterday - not sure if we will "punish" or severely lecture or what
make next week's to-do list
relax, meditate

Frenchie ds struggled a lot in elementary school. Though he had a lot of support. He was thought adjust back then and tried all sorts of meds to no avail. Grade 6 was the worst. 7 was better and high school he took off. He looks like a different kid in academics now and sports. Social is still hard. I second guessed the choice for testing now as I requested it in grade 6. Finally it came through and I hardly need it. But I do ....

Brownies in the oven. Leaving in an hour.

FFB, they actually were dinner dates. We let the kid choose the restaurant they wanted to eat at. When they were small, it wasn't always a very nice restaurant - but it was always their choice. The first date dd26 went on with dh, she was maybe 2.5 or a young 3 year old. She chose a McDonalds with a playground. Dh said he sat at a table outside, next to the playground, while she stood on her chair and talked to him nonstop the entire time. LOL! When he told me, I think I asked why he didn't make her sit down -- I don't remember what he said. :) When they were older, dh would let each kid choose a performance (play, musical)/ concert they wanted to see, and he would take them each on a special date like that each semester. This was in addition to dinner dates, which we continued through high school. Snails - we don't have them here.
Lauralind, it's so good to hear that ds is thriving in school! Enjoy the celebration at church.
Always nice to see you kitkat. I need to do some PUPA too.
Did the girls stop fighting during the shopping trip, trissie?
We'll see you soon, Gma. Hope the dog is faring OK today.
