Morning Nancy…

The plumber has come and gone. I finished taking the drawers out of my counters and put them in another spot so that I’m ready for demolition tomorrow. Then I decided to treat myself and sat outside in the sun and clouds for a while, reading my book.
Came back in and made my lunch and watched the ceremony of the placing of the wreath on the unknown soldiers. I love watching that.

Not sure what I’m going to do next. May just enjoy the sunshine in the day. Hope you all are having a good one.

Lady M… hope the storms didn’t bother you last night. Look like there was lots of hail plenty of rain and wind. Was thinking about you.

Gooood morning!

Last night the storms gave us 1.9" of rain. The storms were kinder than the night before and I got a good night's sleep.

I'm loving being in summer mode. I don't have any requirements to wake up and get teens going. I can wake up whenever I want and go at whatever pace I want. Nice!

We are taking the teens out to eat today in celebration of DS16 becoming a senior and DD13 becoming a 9th grader. In our small town school 9th grade is considered to be middle school and DD13 will have a middle school graduation ceremony next year. However, according to the state the 9th grade grades are factored into high school GPA & are part of high school transcript. Weird.
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.

Thanks for the lovely welcome like 2 weeks ago. sorry, honestly I forgot what and when I posted and since you all post something new everyday and I rarely get on here everyday I miss out but I found a copy of my last post still on my computer so refreshed the screen and saw all of your responses so I know these are 2 weeks late but her goes. That is why I have been mia, but now I will have more time.

Nancy - I totally get quiet time, my family not so much. I am what I called an extroverted introvert. You meet me and I never meet a stranger but that is now how I recharge, I need quiet time to recharge. I am on all day everyday and then I come home and my family who has been introverted all day just want to info dump all over me - it is exhausting. Sometimes I hide in the garage but always get caught and made to come in.

Rambling Rose - for me masking is adapting to the world in which you live. I practice what I am going to say in the car or I relive what I said or a confrontation replying it again and again to try to learn from what I didn't think went well. I have to mentally tell myself to look at people as I speak, I don't do that well, I will stare intently while you speak because I read body cues and facial expressions but I forget how to form words when I speak if I look at someone. I have learned to try to at least look at their forehead. I am quite literal so if someone asks me how I am I want to tell them the truth not just Fine, and how are you? But I do or I come up with a truthful statement like, It's Monday and let them figure out what that means. You gave a great definition of masking. How did you like the duck eggs? We would get 1 or 2 a summer from our farmer when we were part of a farm and I found them very rich and flavorful..

Twinsmom, you are right about taking on too much stuff, that has always been my issue, I say if it fits on the calendar I can do it. This summer I am trying to focus on me and my house and family. I am now retired and immediately I got sick with a cold. I always say I don't have time to be sick but infact now I do so my body decided to prove that to me.

Lucylee - how did the impacted bowel work out with dmom? I use a product by global healing called Oxypowder and it will resolve a impacted bowel but it really takes the ability to be near a toilet because it liquifies and flushes everything. First time I used ot for a week and lost 14 lbs. My son had issue of this and they put him on daily regiment to keep him cleaned out. I also take a really good probiotic called Seed that keeps everything running smooth. Sorry if that is tmi, but if you are interested you need even more info than that, pm me.

Lady Maverick - Neurodivergence coveres adhd, autism, ocd, odd, bipolar and other such things under one title. Most people who are neurodivergent exhibit pieces of several of these. Some carry similar traits and others have traits that oppose each other. I was missed diagnosed as bipolar 23 years ago and a second opinion said you are highly adhd this is very common for women to be misdiagnosed, I am fully adhd and I have some autistic traits as well. The eye contact, sensory issues, literal thinking, stemming, info dumping and giving tmi are autistic traits the disorganization, wandering thing to thing, distraction, executive functioning issues, talking really fast, total adhd. I consider it my super power.

Laurlind I think neurodivergence is a lot more prevalent that we have more definitiions and acceptance - for me I think we are watching evolution take place. What used to be diagnosed autistic there had to also be cognitive delays and severe traits like melt downs and no speech etc. Now they have included in the spectrum characteristics that many people have but many people with superior intellect (no longer called aspergers) fall on the spectrum (they used to just be called nerds).

I will describe how it appears in each of my sons, myself and my husband. We are all considered above average intellectually and it manifests in each of us a little differently. C (super smart has an IQ of 172)for instance has a lot of bipolar traits and ocd traits and more autistic traits than adhd traits. R has more autistic and adhd traits, N is the most neurotypical of us but I would classify him autistic and ocd but kind of the good portions of those things.(super smart has an IQ of 168)I would say my husband is adhd and a little ocd more than autistic (he doesn't think he is on the spectrum at all). Me I say I am AuDHD and I am a mix of both. The 3 of us are about IQ of 135ish. We are all able to be social normally and fit in well but people don't tend to like us much and friends are a lot of work that sometimes we don't care about. P and I are getting better at it but we are 61 so I would certainly hope so but we don't have close friends we hang out with much. We inject ourself into groups.

yesterday was a very very rough day - mom's potassium bottomed out - her legs are swollen still and I hurt mom by giving her furosemide two days in a row along with the lactose - dehydrated her and knocking out her potassium.
My fault! but she is getting better today.
No response from drs. for blood tests bc of the holiday.

Mom is asleep again with the caretaker there

I will put all the plants outside to harden off
water plants that are going outside
fill birdseed
lay compost, biotone in parterre and plant annuals
move grow lights to garage

HELLO. d twins!
it is always a joy to be here with you!

CoustumeLady…love your story

I taught many neurodivergent students in my time. However I ent back to get my under grade at 38, in the 90’s but little was taught to me about the categories you memtoned.

Not much was known at the time about autism so much of what I learned was my trial an error when working with my “kids”. Much of it came from their parents which helped me understand about stemming. Some of which I stumbled on.

In my beginning years I had a girl the constantly drove me crazy with drumming her pencil on her desk. At first I thought it was because she played drums in the school band. However even though she tried anot to during my class it was impossible

My the husband was a drummer in a band and he showed me this small pad he used to practice his skills on. That gave me an idea and I quickly purchased a thick piece of foam rubber and cut it into squares

I handed it to my girl and told her she could tap her heart out in my class as long as it was on that square. It was a success and one I shared to many teachers. My one teacher made 20 squares and would remind her class to grab one before she began teaching. She was fascinated with the results and thanked me many times.

Hopefully now a days teachers are better informed about all you mentioned. It’s is not unusual for autistic kids to haves high IQ as well as my students with Learning disabilities.

If I were younger I would change my masters to Autism as I am so curious any how it affects a persons brain. I have several autistic friends who say they enjoy being around me because I understand what makes them special and they don’t have to mask around me.

My autist “kids” taught me more than they will ever know and I am thankful for that

My duck eggs turned out quit tasty

Did a new thing for my lunch
chicken salad with cheese in it & ate it on the deck.
Dogs next door have been excellent only one time they & my dog were barking at the fence.
They are back with sm. sheltie the most barky went with them I think.

Did a bit of knitting.
Combed out my hair.
Got my journals current.
Moved two big toms.

Spiffed up the patio some plants were hanging over the edge.
Then sat on the patio and enjoyed the coolness of the morning.

I pulled out of a Bible study a young person came with some sort of mental challenges
and did the motor mouth thing. I was having some personal issues and it was too overwhelming.
Especially b/c I did not know what her mental challenges were as I was not in the loop.
I think it was for the best so they could focus time and energy with her. With 5 of us and only one hr.
time slot that was a challenge.
-----
Did dishes and kit. spiff.
I did a five min. challenge with my self and got the
trash ready to go out side sm. branch is now in the can.
Plus I dumped inside trash and got it ready to go to the curb in the a.m.

I am not s2s, but dgs and I went to S*bway for "brunch," I guess, and I have PUPA in the den and my bedroom -- BUT -- just went in there and dgs is under the freshly smoothed covers of my bed, where he says "it's cozy." Sigh.
Called to see if his parents were ready for him to come home -- they are not home. They will pick him up when they return, and dgd wants to stay tonight. Did I say once I was afraid these children would get bored with just me around here??? OTOH -- I know this will not last forever. DGD, especially, is very social and she is a beautiful girl, if I do say so myself. So the day is coming when her weekends will be busy and she'll be going on dates and all those teenage things. DGS... maybe not. But who knows?
I told her we are NOT going out to eat for every meal if she stays tonight. That has to stop. Money is just flying out the door here.

CL -- I think dmom's impaction is gone. She has not really complained about it so much lately; I think it is the shoulder that is bothering her the most right now. I'm going to make a note of your suggestion, though, and keep that in mind for future episodes. Oxypowder. A couple years ago, dmom had several episodes of bowel/intestinal blockages -- she was in the hospital at least three times with an NG tube and at least once, had to have surgery. Since then, she has been very consistent about taking her Miralax, but sometimes she still has a problem with this.
My mother has never been in really what you would call great health. It was a huge shock to all of us that she has outlived ddad by 12 years now. She has had multiple back surgeries, bladder surgeries, and GI surgeries. She also has a lot of arthritis, which may be what the problem is with her shoulder.
She lives about 10-15 minutes away from me, but she does have a Life Alert necklace, and has home health nurses and physical therapists who visit regularly. And she still drives herself most of the time. She only calls on me when she has appointments in Next Town, where the traffic is more hectic.

I had to smile at your description of your dh. My late dh certainly didn't want to say he was on the spectrum, but gosh... he and DGS shared a LOT of traits. I would say dh was definitely OCD and on the spectrum. He, DS, and dgs all had/have almost photographic memories, and what do you call it -- not photographic, but just hearing -- if they hear something once, they have it forever. I know DGS thinks I am impossible, because I can't remember all these historical facts he keeps throwing at me, and it's just automatic to him. When did the Ottoman Empire begin and end? What is the capital of Nigeria? Who was vice-president when Calvin Coolidge was president? Sigh. As you said, I'm afraid dgs won't ever have what I would consider a close friend, but he does seem to like everybody and everybody seems to like him. He has a good sense of humor and that must get him by a lot. I don't think he ever brags about his grades -- he seldom even brings home his report cards, but he has a reputation of being the smartest kid in his class. He doesn't really pick up on non-verbal cues though -- sometimes he is just caught up in whatever is going on in his own head and he doesn't notice other people at all. He definitely would have been labeled just a nerd years ago, and that is one reason we have encouraged sports. But sports have really helped him learn to work with others and adjust to different situations, I think. He says he's giving up everything except football from this year on, which is probably a wise decision.

Well, I should get busy with something. I have at least marked one thing off my list -- I got the church notes organized and in the notebook I keep. Pastor emailed wanting the minutes from meeting where we approved new name provided disaffiliation was approved. I was able to find that for her quickly and emailed back, and then I just finished putting all these last few weeks in.

Hope you all have a good day with family and friends, and remembering those who gave all in service of our country.
Tomorrow is another day.
