I am not s2s, but dgs and I went to S*bway for "brunch," I guess, and I have PUPA in the den and my bedroom -- BUT -- just went in there and dgs is under the freshly smoothed covers of my bed, where he says "it's cozy." Sigh.
Called to see if his parents were ready for him to come home -- they are not home. They will pick him up when they return, and dgd wants to stay tonight. Did I say once I was afraid these children would get bored with just me around here??? OTOH -- I know this will not last forever. DGD, especially, is very social and she is a beautiful girl, if I do say so myself. So the day is coming when her weekends will be busy and she'll be going on dates and all those teenage things. DGS... maybe not. But who knows?
I told her we are NOT going out to eat for every meal if she stays tonight. That has to stop. Money is just flying out the door here.
CL -- I think dmom's impaction is gone. She has not really complained about it so much lately; I think it is the shoulder that is bothering her the most right now. I'm going to make a note of your suggestion, though, and keep that in mind for future episodes. Oxypowder. A couple years ago, dmom had several episodes of bowel/intestinal blockages -- she was in the hospital at least three times with an NG tube and at least once, had to have surgery. Since then, she has been very consistent about taking her Miralax, but sometimes she still has a problem with this.
My mother has never been in really what you would call great health. It was a huge shock to all of us that she has outlived ddad by 12 years now. She has had multiple back surgeries, bladder surgeries, and GI surgeries. She also has a lot of arthritis, which may be what the problem is with her shoulder.
She lives about 10-15 minutes away from me, but she does have a Life Alert necklace, and has home health nurses and physical therapists who visit regularly. And she still drives herself most of the time. She only calls on me when she has appointments in Next Town, where the traffic is more hectic.
I had to smile at your description of your dh. My late dh certainly didn't want to say he was on the spectrum, but gosh... he and DGS shared a LOT of traits. I would say dh was definitely OCD and on the spectrum. He, DS, and dgs all had/have almost photographic memories, and what do you call it -- not photographic, but just hearing -- if they hear something once, they have it forever. I know DGS thinks I am impossible, because I can't remember all these historical facts he keeps throwing at me, and it's just automatic to him. When did the Ottoman Empire begin and end? What is the capital of Nigeria? Who was vice-president when Calvin Coolidge was president? Sigh. As you said, I'm afraid dgs won't ever have what I would consider a close friend, but he does seem to like everybody and everybody seems to like him. He has a good sense of humor and that must get him by a lot. I don't think he ever brags about his grades -- he seldom even brings home his report cards, but he has a reputation of being the smartest kid in his class. He doesn't really pick up on non-verbal cues though -- sometimes he is just caught up in whatever is going on in his own head and he doesn't notice other people at all. He definitely would have been labeled just a nerd years ago, and that is one reason we have encouraged sports. But sports have really helped him learn to work with others and adjust to different situations, I think. He says he's giving up everything except football from this year on, which is probably a wise decision.
Well, I should get busy with something. I have at least marked one thing off my list -- I got the church notes organized and in the notebook I keep. Pastor emailed wanting the minutes from meeting where we approved new name provided disaffiliation was approved. I was able to find that for her quickly and emailed back, and then I just finished putting all these last few weeks in.
Hope you all have a good day with family and friends, and remembering those who gave all in service of our country.
