Good morning!

I'm in my groove and loving it.

Feels like temp are over 100 every day now. It's that time of the year. It is not unusual to have weeks in a row being over 100F.

I have things ready for disasters (I hope). Tornados are our biggest threat so taking items to the cellar is most likely scenerio. This can be done in under a minute. The cellar is always ready and available.
A plastic tub (water proof) with our most important documents that would be a PITA to replace.
Plastic tub with medications.
No electricity happens several times a year. Having a whole house generator that automatic starts when the power goes off. makes that a non-issue.
Food and water are abundant. We have two water wells here in addition to city water.
Past experience has shown us that our biggest issue is finding gas for vehicles when electricity is out for days/weeks. I believe that has been solved by many gas stations installing generators. As long as the big gas supply trucks run to refill the gas station undrground tanks, we should be good.

I think it was Nancy who inspired me to pack a GO bag. That bring me comfort knowing it is ready if we have to make a quick trip to hospital.

I had to go to one of the banks. I don't do online banking and I needed to check my balance. While I was out, I went to the pharmacy and the grocery store. I got stuff to make a pasta salad and cole slaw. We are having a pork chop with that. The pork chops are huge and thick. Now I can go lay on the bed and read. I might even nap.

CI / up at 5:15 felt like sleeping in compared to some earlier times I had awoken.
Got the qt on the deck a bit of surprise my chair gave out the fabric on the seat.
It's 5 yrs. + in age. I chuckled as I tried to untangle myself from that.
Checked and none in stock at my w- store. Amz. has some.
I got one out of each rig a bit diff. do not fix quite as well.
I may be doing qt at the table on the deck now.

We've walked saw turkeys again got vid. of em!

Dropped my muffin salvaged part of it ddoggo was pleased to get some of it.

Did a round of writing for writer Wed.
Anti. P. task today was to declutter some items from the plant cage.
I did some on the front yd. while it was cool and in the shade.

Oh Nancy, you're reminding me of the turkeys around here. We haven't seem them in awhile. I hope only your pride was hurt when you fell through the chair!

You dinner sounds great, Cathy. I love those thick pork chops - not like the thin ones I grew up with. I might join you in a nap.

LadyM, is there something about this season of long days that improves energy? I'm feeling it too. No crawl space or cellar here unfortunately. If we take shelter it would be our laundry room or closet under the stairs (both are interior.) Laundry room is next to MBR, closet under stairs would need to be emptied quickly so it's a second choice.

RR, thank you for sharing your prep list. Are you getting a lot of rain from this system they keep watching?

I am quite proud of myself. Car serviced, did all the recommended fluid exchanges and maintenance. Then stopped at the assisted living facility where dmom was. I had a bag full of greeting cards that I didn't feel were quite my style and I stopped to offer them to staff/residents. I was shocked when the lady who answered the door recognized me after 6 years. She said I looked just like my mother and kept talking about how sweet "Miss Annetta" was. She was happy to get the cards and gave me a little tour - the building needed updating and they have done so. She remembered what room dmom was in and showed me the room and I was teary-eyed at remembering.

Next stop was Staples store - I had a printer cartridge to recycle and on a whim I asked if their tech dept could get the info off a very old hard drive I have. It's at least ten years old and has been riding in my car for over a year, and he got most the stuff off. I had two USB drives, he transferred all but the zip folders - said the work computer didn't allow. But he gave me an obsolete cable for it and said I could probably access them. And I had two USB drives in my purse (for downloading images from microfilm at libraries) so I didn't even have to buy. Cost $30 but well worth it. There is a file I remember having at one point that listed all the people in a 1933 photo of one of my great grandmother's family. My mother and her siblings are in it as children.

Bad news is that I ate a Snickers bar at the car dealership. They are so nice, someone was passing out candy bars and Snickers are a favorite. I'm sleepy now, wondering if it was the sugar?

I feel like I've done a full day's work already. I should take a look to see what was on that hard drive. I had used it for backups. After that a short nap might be in order? Dh is playing golf, house is quiet.

dogs want to be out but being black labs they don't handle the heat well.
mom is back in bed for a nap
my brother came over and helped put her to bed
I didn't say a word and didn't respond to any mention of his girlfriend. I was friendly even though still uncomfortable.

found out dd's older, dd younger and brother will be gone; all at the same time.
I will call the caretaker company and see if I can get someone at night. I want this as a regular thing in the future.

I played with the dogs a couple times
watered outside in different areas
cleaned up in yard
more laundry done
dishes done
my ADHD is lifted again - two days clear minded
cleaned rusted scissors

After lunch saw it was natl. hot dog day on the news.
My lunch had sliced sausage cheese dogs in with egg & cheese in a wrap
tom. on the side.

I showered and got my hair washed combed out and it's drying now.
No need for a/c at the moment here.

Thinking I might try my plastic lounge type chair on the deck.

Napped.
Moved that chair on the deck will try it tomorrow.
My hair is dry.
There is a fire ten mi. apx. south of here up in the mtns. They might have it out already.

I've been checking fb dson has friends in Ak. after the quake hoping they check in soon.

Home from a grocery store trip. The cottage cheese was nonexistent again this morning. I bought twice as much last time but when the teens get a craving for something they can quickly make it disappear. The price of cottage cheese is over twice as much when I purchase it locally. It is $5.85 a lb locally vs $2.13 a lb at Sam's. I can feel my price watching & coupon shopping ancestor's influence. I buy it at twice the price anyway and am pleased to have it. Even at the higher price, it is still less than a $1 a meal.

DD14 stayed up all night. I'm not exactly pleased with her night owl ways but am choosing my battles carefully. I do need to get her into sunshine when it cools down a little. I am hoping the sunshine may help her body sleep cycle reset.

Productive day out here. Mom was up for the morning till lunch. I think that's pretty normal nowadays. Nap time after lunch which is kinda why I didn't feel like going to town after cause then she's ready for a rest. The house is clean. Vacuumed. Kitchen. Bathrooms upstairs at least. Dad seems to get laundry done and dumped on my old bed from 30 years ago. I folded a bunch again. He can put them away.

The curtains? If it were my house I would have been a bit more fussy with the shade. They're more grey taupe tan than what I would have picked. An dad can decide if he likes the rod and then I will get help. It has support brackets should be only on in the center. If it drives him nuts we'll switch it. They look good. And they can see the tv from the sun.

And I did take mom out a bit. She watched me for part of the row then we went in and had some soup for lunch. She got in bed so I went back out. Watered ddil flowers down the hill and did some more. I got warm so I came in and made a coffee. I could almost get more done but now she's up. And dad should be back in an hour or so

I just saw on the news that RRose and LucyLee and other members in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and other coastal areas are expecting TS Dexter.

Stay safe, please, because we need you. No rain here yet today, but I'm too far north to be affected by what's going on in the Gulf coast area.

Lauralind, my dmother used to have a pet peeve about tv being located at a window, or oddly "lit" by a window, because it was hard on the eyes. You and parents are wise to drape the windows in a way that keeps the discomfort down.

Actually, my eyes are bothering me today. I heard HRH saying the same thing.

LadyM, I do hope your dd gets some chances at sun even in the heat. Summer temps are disrupting outdoor time here, too. Ds has a golf game he can set up easily in his garage with a net, etc. for real swings/drives. He, HRH and the children want to play out there but even with a fan going it's not very comfortable right now. So right when their family has some time and some calendar freedom, they can't enjoy.

Dbil came by and showed HRH his new business van. He's happy and nervous all at once starting into a small business himself, although it has actually been around with the same name for 35 years, 2 previous owners. I managed to shoo them onto the porch and then disappear so they would have time to talk, which they both need. HRH generally benefits from chats with his brother, and dbil needs to pick HRH's brain on inventory, computer records, etc.
