I can honestly say that I have never heard of that event, Cathy. I would expect noise and the aroma of turned earth there. I'd be interested to know what will happen with the place after all contests are finished. Wonder if it will be arable or compacted. A commemorative tee-shirt would be cool.

So glad you are feeling better, Twins'. I was thinking maybe you are restricted by med from much direct sunlight, but that may not be so at all. My favorite time of day at the beach is the early morning, when I once saw dolphins playing and sort of jumping acrobatically. (thanks for all the fish) Those in the know told me it happened often. That was somewhat north of Myrtle.

Both groceries and shirts have arrived. I have some light gift-wrapping to do.

Ddolder called and we are on duty at her household tomorrow afternoon when she just can't be everywhere at once. Repairmen coming at the same time she must pick dgsC up from school.

Harriet the IPM will be using the local fair grounds and they have nothing planned there for another year when the annual fall fair will be back. The fair was last weekend. I think the 2 massive farmer's fields will just be for people with RVs. There are hundreds of short posts all over the fields. When dh and I went to the landfill a couple of days ago, there was a large electrical utility type of vehicle parked near one of the short posts. Dh thinks they may have been testing lines.

Twins' Mom I don't currently have any of those options. I think I might have to stop buying all of the authors that I have been reading. It might even be time to get a library card again.

d brother (he was as nice and helpful as can be) came at 12:30 I was able to leave bc mom slept after her busy morning.
they were able to find a helper from 2 - 6. my brother stayed the whole time!

dd Youngers cousins came and visited her - they are lovely!
I got to stay from 1 to 5 - it was so nice to be at the hospital with dd younger.

Agreeing that my experience with used books has almost always been good too. I did order one a few months back that, when delivered, had the (paperback) front cover separated from the spine. I believe that happened in transit, which doesn't make it any happier except to say it was just one poor wrapping choice by one seller, so I'm thinking it's very rare. Sometimes a book purchase that is new is really important to me for a gift, or I really hope to have a new release for the most current info, but there are lots of times I find that used works, as well.

Ddolder scours the bookshelves of Goodwill when she goes to try to keep up with clothes for 4 rapidly changing boys. She usually finds something.

I wish our local bookstore had been able to withstand the big-retailer competition. Ddolder used to swap books there and we had lots of enjoyment in it.

Odd additional Desk Day done - The fellow who does our annual insurance/Medicare sent online forms this time, and we filled those out today. It says our hospital authority now requires that he express to them in advance how he expects to help us during our annual visit. I never heard of that.

Gift wrapping done.

So happy that it looks like I will get off with only one appt tomorrow morning. Then there should be enough time for lunch before heading over to ddolder's to hold down the fort.

DS17 test results were all good.
DD14 brought home her 6-week report card. She earned all A's except for one class, where she missed an A by just 2 points.
There is much to be thankful for.

More on books ~ there is used book store in our town I've had good luck with too.
Also the library sells books for under $1.00.
I did find a book swap at the grange too take a book leave a book.

Can't think of any thing I did of progress but I did get a knitting project complete
just had 5 rows left on it.

Happy birthday, Kathryn!

I read a lot of books on my phone, with the Kindle app and with "Libby" the electronic library app. I think I had to sign up for that at the public library, but I did that during Covid and was amazed at how much I enjoyed it. The only drawback is when I don't read a book fast enough, if there is a waiting list, it will not let me re-check it. So I get in a panic sometimes and stay up all night finishing a book.
I've also bought used books from Amazon, but do check the shipping cost -- sometimes that will bring the price up to whatever the new book would cost if you can get free shipping.
DS and DDIL do a lot of shopping in thrift stores and sometimes find bargains in the book sections too, like Harriet mentioned.
Question -- should I delete these Kindle books from my phone when I finish them? Are they taking up a lot of storage space on my phone?

Blessed, I am so sorry you've had such a whirlwind with dd's appendicitis and the helper calling in sick and everything! (((BIG HUGS))) But it sounds like your dmom has really had a good day, so that's a relief. Glad your brother could help out, and the dog sitter friend was able to take dd's dog.

I wonder if an International Plowing Match is anything like a Tractor Pull. I have never been to a Tractor Pull, but my paternal grandfather used to go to those. (I don't know if he "pulled" or just watched. He had an old tractor that he took to shows, the kind with the motor exposed, metal seat with no cushion, and everything sitting up high, huge wheels. HIs was a Case model; I have no idea how old it was.)

I've watched some of the 9-11 coverage. DGD said they watched videos in school today, which kinda surprised me -- 4th grade -- but it didn't seem to traumatize her too much. While we were waiting on DGS at football practice, she was watching YouTube videos of it. I've also been watching a lot of the coverage of Charlie Kirk's assassination and the ongoing search for the killer. Such a shock when something like that happens and it is caught on film. So horrible for the family to know it's being played over and over. Like the Kennedy assassination -- how sad it must have been for his children to know that was going to be replayed every year for the rest of their lives.

Glad to hear DS can stay on your insurance for a few more years, LadyM.

Routines. Ha. Blessed, I am chief among those who cannot follow a routine. I haven't even looked at my cards today. I don't know what has gotten into me. I talked to dmom a long while this morning, but I did fold towels and do a load of clothes while I was on the phone. And I hung those clothes to dry. But dgrands' clothes are still in the dryer. Otherwise... I don't think I can say I did anything today. I checked with the alterations lady and I cannot drop off my items till Monday. Talked to DS for a few minutes, and ddil when she called on her way home from work. School pick-up is ssslllooowww... and I had to get DGD at 3:00 and DGS at 4:30, so that was a pretty good block of time, even though I'm only a few minutes away from the school.

Tomorrow IS going to be "Lucy Day," however, intentionally, not as the default for laziness. I plan to go see the Downton Abbey movie (at 1:00 when tickets are cheaper) and then swap my shirts at Belk, and then probably eat at Chick-Fil-A. DGD is going to spend the night, but she will be with our pastor and the pastor's grandson for most of the evening. She is determined that she does not want to go to College Town with the rest of her family on Saturday, so she will be with me, but she has been instructed to "let Nana do what Nana wants to do" since I'm letting her stay. They should be home before bedtime, and I suspect they will pick up DGD and leave DGS with me.

Sorry I've written two days' worth but I was out of pocket all day yesterday, had to make up for lost time.
