blessed, the Dawn (or any dish soap) drops into vinegar is my remedy, too, so I don't know more to suggest. I make a square of paper into a funnel shape and tape it. My puzzlement is often shaping it so as to keep the tip of the funnel above the level of the liquid. My eyesight allowed a banana to go too dark and started a quick battle here, but I caught it. The surprise was that the silly things found HRH's small casserole that had held beans and wasn't yet washed, on the counter! I didn't realize they would want beans, too! Anyway, I hustled that out the door to be rinsed outside!!!

Btw, "the small gnats" are mentioned in Keats' poem, too.

HRH had to have beans from BoJ again - for some reason, he just loved them last time, maybe the recipe is a little different now. So off we went for another "it's still pretty weather" drive.

I have a call in to dr about a blood draw next week. Don't understand why I must travel so far to get it done - why not close to home? Just a nagging thought that they may want to hang onto me until a lab checks it... .. hmmm ... .. I don'wanna.

Yes, Rosh Hashanah starts at sundown tonight. We'll be in our place at services when they start at 7:30. Dh likes to get there early and socialize. Tomorrow he'll be there at 10 when it starts, I'll probably come in a little late, and get out the door as soon as it's winding down.

Bw2, He's still in the honeymoon phase of retirement. Not doing enough as far as I'm concerned, lol, but he'll get there I think. He did some bowling "coaching" and he's having the holes in some of his bowling balls plugged and drilled to fit his hand better, working to improve consistency. Not much golfing yet.

bw2, agreeing with Harriet on the vinegar w dish soap - I have some apple cider vinegar - to catch them. We had a few when I had tomatoes on the counter too long but I'm good now.

Harriet, are BoJ beans pinto or baked?

Report: fish is in the oven and timer is going. Second challah done and cooling. I also got roomba going on the screened porch. There will be more tracked in I'm sure but I'll call it good enough.

Next up is kitchen clean up. Dh is home from temple too.

Update: Surgery is over Dgd is back in her room & it was successful!

I've mowed the back it looks nice after the fertilizer and rain I knew that this would need done more often.

taking a much-needed break, drinking tea and regrouping. I have 15 minutes before picking DD14 up from school for her autism evaluation appt.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that not everyone understands the effort, time, and focus homeschooling requires. DSisIL dropped by for a visit, acting as if we had nothing else going on, and stayed for quite a while. Eventually, DS17 and I moved to another room to finish the homeschool assignments.

I need to focus on my blessings and let go of the frustrations...

So, the dentist went about as expected. There was not enough of the tooth left to mount a new crown, so the dentist sealed off the top of the tooth with filling material and gave me a referral. He said I'd have to talk it over with the oral surgeon but that he'd recommend getting an implant both for the sake of chewing and for keeping the other teeth in their proper place.

Got a load of wash started earlier; need to go flip it. Had lunch. Cleaned up my dishes. (DH had cleaned up his, so there was even a sink of water ready.) Got DH to take DD out driving before she had to go to work. Now he's out picking up DC after taking DD to work. Sunny skies this morning have turned threatening. I may turn on a light. It sounds like everybody is keeping busy -- I'd better, too!

***Big sigh of relief*** that DD14's initial interview is finally done. I was uploading documents right up until one minute before the online interview started. The thing about mental evaluations is that they are entirely subjective. There’s no blood work or test to confirm an autism diagnosis. DD14 is determined to be diagnosed as autistic and has studied the symptoms so thoroughly that she can recite them from memory. Answering countless questions about autism symptoms is easy for her because she knows exactly what they are looking for. I asked DD14 if she would accept a professional diagnosis if they determine she isn’t autistic, and she said she wouldn’t.

I feel like a wrung-out washrag, completely drained and dry.
I want some fun in my day! Bring on the sunshine, the beauty of nature, and time spent playing in the garden!

Nancy, so glad to hear the surgery went as expected. Hope the recuperation is easy.

LadyM, that sounds like a frustrating day, with preparations for online, and visiting when folks don't realize time is short for a student and homeschooling parent.

BoJangles is a take-out place that may be regional. All their packaging says "BoJ's", so I guess they embrace that shorthand, which has been around as a nickname a lot longer than they have been printing it. Anyway, their beans are Cajun spiced pintos, very aromatic, with a nice taste. I don't like them so much because I'm not crazy about chili powder spice and that's what I taste most. But HRH really enjoys them, says at least the ones near us seem to have improved. He likes several of their side dishes enough to stop to pick them up - "dirty rice" is another one. I think this is the first time he made it a destination!

Very nice to start the day with poetry for the season, Harriet!
It may be autumn, but as DGD said tonight, "WHY is it still so HOT???"
We had a little rain today, and it was just enough to leave us feeling hot and sticky at the ballgame. (We lost, 12-0, dgs still playing his role on the sidelines.)
The best part of the night -- after the game we ate at a favorite restaurant, known for multiple soft serve ice cream flavors -- the only place we know of where I can get maple, DS can can apricot, and dgd can get mango. It is out of the way for our normal errands and we rarely eat there.
The worst part of the night -- and I am embarrassed to tell y'all this -- I missed the turn into the restaurant and drove RIGHT THROUGH THE DITCH in front of it! I mean right through the grass, left tracks, and pulled right on up to the windows. (This is a place where you can go inside or you can walk up to a window and order.) I was sooo embarrassed (and sooo thankful that the ditch was shallow enough that I did not get stuck in it!) I bet the people in the restaurant thought I was drunk. I'm amazed DS and ddil let me drive the kids home. (They were in a separate car because ddil had to come straight from work.) I just couldn't see -- I knew I missed the turn, but nothing was coming, and I thought the pavement went all the way across there... but nope... there was a grassy ditch right in the middle of two parking areas. I'm afraid DS will take my keys before I'm 65... SMH...

LadyM, it does sound as if your dd is going to be able to skew the test results to suit herself, doesn't it?
Good for you -- moving to another room for ds' lessons when your dsisil dropped by.

Harriet, we have Bojangles in Next Town. DH loved it -- as does DS. I'm not that crazy about it, but I will eat there if everyone else wants to. Popeye's is similar, I'd say. I still prefer Chick-Fil-A to all chicken restaurants.

Well -- I am prepared for a "perfect day" tomorrow. Got out of the shower at 11:30 pm. (It's easier to make myself do the night time shower if I don't have to wash my hair. )
I still have some paperwork to do, and I've been going down rabbit holes on this computer for long while... searching IBS and Find a Grave.

This might be interesting to you, Twins --
I think OG's grave stone has disappeared! Find a Grave still has it just as it always was, but the other day I stopped by the cemetery on the way home from my aunt's, and it took me forever to find it. I knew exactly where it was supposed to be, (I visited it soon after the stone was placed) and I finally found his father's stone. Almost touching his father's stone was the copper/brass (?) flat military marker, which used to be at the foot of his grave, and where his headstone used to be, there was a different stone for a young girl! (No close relation). (There were flowers covering her name and date, and it was starting to rain so I didn't inspect it too closely, but I am 99.9999% SURE this was NOT his stone.) How could this have happened??? I mean, his daughter lives maybe 45 minutes away, but I can't imagine she would have had him moved after all these years. Her mother has been married twice since she was married to OG, and had a child by her second husband. That was so weird -- the stone being gone, I mean -- not her mother's marital history.
One of dh's aunts moved some tombstones after many, many years -- and left the bodies in the graves, which we all thought was crazy -- but she was moving small, ancient stones that probably had fallen over 100 years ago, in a cemetery that was totally covered in weeds and overgrowth. She moved them to a better-maintained family cemetery in a more accessible area. But OG's daughter is 54 years old. I don't think she would go to the trouble of moving a modern day tombstone without moving the person -- and if she moved the person, why did she leave the military marker? Just strange. I've got to go back out there and make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.
