Re: Tobogganing Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Thank you for the fun start, trissie. You brought back happy memories of something called The Flying Saucer, which was basically a curved plastic tray like Kittykatt remembers, but with a couple of handles added.
I hope that the parish lunch goes smoothly, Kittykatt, and that you all have a good time.
I'm sorry the doctor cancelled, L.Ann. Have they given you a new apartment?
Bama, when I complain to myself about the cold, you remind me how much I don't like being wet. I'll take the snow. But you are welcome to B.C.'s answer to the rest of Canada: At least I don't have to shovel rain!
helia, we have a cold day today too, windchill about -20, but it's supposed to warm up somewhat tomorrow. I'm hoping that Germane can have a walk tomorrow. And I'll leave my trip to Canadian Tire for tomorrow. Today the spruce trees look too much like the inflatable tube guys outside a car dealership. They are not actually flailing, but considering that they are trees that reach the 4th/5th story of the building, I don't think that they should be waving around like that at all.
That is a lot of socializing in one week. I can understand the need for a quiet period to reset.
Thursday
Checked the weather
Cleaned up after dog
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed some dishes
Put more in to soak
Sinus drain
CUOP
Washed the soaking dishes
Put more in to soak
Made breakfast
Washed some dishes
I hope that the parish lunch goes smoothly, Kittykatt, and that you all have a good time.

Re: Tobogganing Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Hello, everyone!
I'm sorry the appointment was cancelled, L.Ann. Fingers crossed the appointment on 17th goes smoothly.
Bama, I hope you manage to "reset" from your weird dream.
Helia, I understand the need to have some time without other people, in order to recharge!
Trissie, I hope your day improves this evening!
Dogged, I think you're very wise to stay inside today!
Parish lunch went every well, and I'm pleased with the first attempt. We had a fantastic team of helpers, so getting everything sent up and cleared away was very straightforward. MD made some amazing decorations for the tables and around the top of the front, and, I think the food was just right. There was a little left over, which will be used at the student event this evening. We did have one dissenting voice demanding to know why we didn't serve alcohol, but the lovely lady who had to deal with that told them quite firmly that we would have needed an events licence, which costs money, as well as a lot more organisation, and it was a lunch, not a supper! (It would have also meant increasing the ticket price and I wanted to keep it affordable for everyone.)
DH has gone to his men's supper, and I'm enjoying the quiet after so much socialising today. Waitrose have delivered, so I need to get everything PA.

Re: Tobogganing Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Bama — I was basing my rain report on a dfriend who lived there during college. Maybe she did say the #1 wettest city! Either way, it rains a lot.
I woke up tired too and have still not managed to s2s! House seems cold and I refuse to set the heat any higher. It’s 73 degrees in here. That’s plenty if a person would get up and get busy.

Re: Tobogganing Thursday @ TDD - C&C
I have come to a realization of something that affects my life quite a bit, but it comes with a TMI warning for those who would prefer not to hear about digestive issues. In my teen years, I developed an irritated colon. I remember sweating and shaking from the pain and the effort to hold on until I reached the college and could use the washroom. As an adult, I had some more control over my life. I became a person who knew the location of every public washroom between the start and finish of my daily trips. Everything I ate was converted to pain. The introduction of Immodium was life-changing. Instead of waiting a day or two for the Kaopectate to have an effect, things would improve in less than an hour. It meant that a bout that started at work would be under control before I had to head out for the bus. And I have relied on Immodium at least every week if not actually daily ever since. The only food my body wants to eat is rice with frozen vegetables. For everything else, I rely on Immodium.
This past week, I have been eating jollof rice, which is not as spicy as Indian curry but spicier than most North American food, falafel, avocados and putting the garlic sauce from the falafel and the hot sauce with chopped peppers that came with the jollof rice on everything. And today is the first day that I have thought that perhaps I should take one Immodium as a precaution before Errands Day tomorrow. So far I haven't taken it.
What has caused this miracle that my body is actually willing to process food without medication? I'm not at work. After a lifetime of not being allowed to have personal boundaries, of eating the stress of keeping my emotions locked down while customers and coworkers were free to dump all over me, I am protected by the walls and door of my apartment. Instead of hanging on for dear life, my thoughts are things like "I really like having the oven mitts hanging there. The microwave rack was a good purchase. The cleaning supplies don't need to be taking up valuable space in the kitchen. The refill bin could go into that inconvenient spot behind the drying rack and then I could use that cupboard for kitchen-related stuff that I use more often. Maybe heavier stuff that would be dangerous to store up high."
It's been such a long wait to get old, but I can't recommend it enough. It's worth the wait. The control that the pension can give you over your life makes all the difference.
Those are big Ta Das, trissie. WTG!
Kittykatt, I am so happy that the parish lunch was a great success. We know how hard you worked on it.
lucylee, when my apartment is cold, as it often is in the morning in winter, I keep finding excuses to huddle next to the space heater in the bathroom or to go back to bed to warm up under the covers (though I experience that as I am SOOOOO tired.) My apartment faces west, and on a sunny afternoon the apartment warms right up. I find myself taking off my toque and a sweater or two, and suddenly happy to do housework. So I can completely sympathize with your still being in pajamas and wanting to hibernate if it is cold. Something that might help but so far has been ineffective on me is to remind yourself that washing dishes involves putting your hands in a basin of nice, hot water.

Trissie, jump on in, the water is fine. It doesn’t really seem like that much rain, I think the summer afternoon showers account for a lot and they aren’t that often plus they cool things off.
LAnn, enjoy your reading time.
Dogged, all we had was cardboard boxes before the snow. Now there is all kinds of snow eqt sold here and we probably won’t see snow again for another decade. Marketing geniuses. Posting and then reading your latest post.
As someone who lives in a hurricane zone, I’m with you on trees should not sway.
Kittykatt, sorry someone was a spoilsport on the lack of alcohol. Surely they could imbibe before or after if they were in such need. Dream is mostly forgotten.
Lucylee, it was probably #2, I did think it odd as we have droughts every summer and the farmers talk about it, I don’t know how they count it. Growing up there and taking it for granted, it’s nice to be known for some good things. I hope you warm up. My two daughters are living in Tuscaloosa, I need to check and see how their weather is.
Still plodding…

(((Dogged))), bodies are wonders and it’s amazing how they react to what we are going through to let us know what is healthy or unhealthy for us, although the restroom issues aren’t pleasant. I’m glad you’re feeling better.

Bama, that must be enraging for the farmers, to be in the wettest place with no rain when they need it in the summer. Our prairies are prone to drought, but at least the farmers there aren't being told "You know that you're in a rain forest, don't you?"
Thank you. Yes, our bodies talk to us when we shut out what our minds are trying to tell us.
