We had lunch, then some time outside in the cold and sunny day, the four of us. Then back home when the sun set. I played MarioKart with DS7. Then the boys played and fights started. Now they're each in a separate place. MrNG is cooking boeuf bourguignon as per DS7's wish (DS10 loves it too) and I'll eat vegetarian leftovers for dinner.
Payroll tomorrow, MrNG will be watching the boys and trying to work on his internship report, but the noise-cancelling headphone that he used has broken in two pieces on Tuesday, so he won't be able to do much. (yes we resort to that kind of tools, in order to keep some sanity)
I still want to list a few habits to track during January, no real "new year resolutions" as I've been working on them on and off already, but as a good procrastinator I like to seize "new start, clean slate" opportunities when they come.

FrenchFly, I am happy to share. Most of my furniture, including my computer desk and entertainment centre, are made of chrome post and wire computer carts that I bought as surplus from an old employer. Things like this:

Both have 4' posts and the wire shelves are 4' long. The entertainment centre has 3 shelves. The computer desk has only two shelves: the bottom shelf at the lowest level, and the top shelf slightly above my lap, comfortable for the keyboard. The monitor should be a little higher than it is.
The standing desk is not a complete desk, but something that you set on a desk or table. The top is a solid, like a piece of countertop from your kitchen, 29" X 19". Underneath is the same kind of mechanism as an ironing board, just with heavier materials. It has a quick-release mechanism, so that you can raise to work standing up for a while, and the release it again to sit back down. Like an ironing board. When I planned to put it on my computer desk, I was picturing putting the monitor on it and sliding a laptop underneath, and plugging them both into a KVM switch to share peripherals. But the crossed legs make it impractical to put things underneath.
The entertainment centre is against the back wall of my apartment, and covers the space between the patio door and a side wall, with a bit of room on each side. I have the TV on the patio door side, which puts it in the middle of the room. I have neighbours' bedroom walls on both sides, so this is as far as I could get the TV from their walls. It worked out pretty well, as I can see the TV from everywhere in the apartment except the bathroom and the closet. On the side of the top shelf I have a large rectangular magnet that I hang my tools from.
The second shelf is reasonably accessible but the bottom shelf is out of reach unless I collapse the dog's pen. Which is awkward because there are things inside the dog's pen that have to be moved first. If I move the standing desk under the TV and VCR/DVD player, it will actually increase the surface area of the top shelf and let me try the TV at different heights. Of course, that means clearing the clutter off of the top shelf. Right now, I have significantly increased the chaos in the apartment with my reorganizing, so I might have to finish some of what I started first, LOL.
I love Howl's Moving Castle. It's been a long time since I saw the movie, but the audiobook is well worth a listen as well. The author wrote a few books in which Howl appears. It turns out that he is Welsh, and that his name is actually Howell.
I'll bet that was a fun day with all of the grandkids, kitkat!
A fondue sounds fun, L.Ann. Are you doing a cheese fondue or an oil fondue? (I'm assuming that it's not a chocolate fondue for supper, LOL.)

What I have heard of for an American tradition is Hoppin' John with greens. I think that it's black-eyed peas rather than lentils. The legumes are to attract coins, and the greens to attract paper money in the coming year. And, of course, if you cooked a ham for Christmas, the bone is in the Hoppin' John to make the broth.
Oh, I can totally relate to trying to work at your desk in a cold space, Lauralind. I am fighting the urge to crawl back into bed and turn on the heated throw. Honestly, I would leave your craft room desk for spring. You have had so many balls up in the air, I think that you should give yourself a break any way that you can for now. I'm sorry about the cats marking the curtains. Was that stress from the fireworks. And poor Casper feeling that his yard was under attack.

Lifted monitor with one hand and chin, and unrolled the rest of the runner
Put keyboard and mouse back on
Cleared off standing desk
Dusted it
Set it up on computer desk
Turned it 90 degrees
Realized that the standing desk is causing problems and solving none
Found that I was cut off from the kitchen
Reorganized the area under the pass through in order to clear up the way to the door
Shook out the old runner and put it in laundry
Cleaned up after dog
Breakfast for dog: she ate two out of three dog foods: yay!
Gave her extra spoonfuls of the two acceptable dog foods: yuck ptooey
Sat down to eat my own breakfast
Cleaned up after dog
Checked dog’s dish: she has eaten some
Put more yuck ptooey dog food in her dish as a reward for using her pee pad
Folded/put away the laundry from the clothesline.

I'm interested because you seem to have the issue of not having enough space and endlessly having to move things from one spot to the nex tin order for some part of the home to be usable. Which is our issue here, with nonetheless a few free spaces but they can't be used the way we would need.

FFB, do you have a dressing table that you could utilise as a temporary part time desk? A few years ago, my former neighbour gave me her lovely teak dressing table, as it didn't fit in with her newly decorated bedroom!!! It's 1960s GPlan and very solid, and also makes a very good desk. (I always put something down to protect the surface first!) I definitely don't suggest looking to *buy* a GPlan dressing table (I just had a casual look online and was horrified by the prices!!), but if space is an issue, you may already have a piece of furniture you could use.

It's been a very nice indoor day (the promised sun never appeared, and we had some rain instead ) but I took advantage of having nothing on the calendar, and I've finally shortened those curtains I bought for the kitchen (after buying them in the sale nearly 2 years ago 
) and they are now hanging up and covering the windows. They're lined and quite thick , so I'm hoping it will help the kitchen stay warmer in winter now the windows are covered. (The kitchen tends to be cold during the winter months, as we get a draft from the windows.) OTOTH, now they are finally in place, it almost certainly guarantees that the weather will now warm up!

Rolled up old runner on computer desk and removed old placemats to replace
Rolled out clean runner on half of desk
Removed keyboard and mouse
Lifted monitor with one hand and chin, and unrolled the rest of the runner
Put keyboard and mouse back on
Cleared off standing desk
Dusted it
Set it up on computer desk
Turned it 90 degrees
Realized that the standing desk is causing problems and solving none
Found that I was cut off from the kitchen
Reorganized the area under the pass through in order to clear up the way to the door
Shook out the old runner and put it in laundry
Cleaned up after dog
Breakfast for dog: she ate two out of three dog foods: yay!
Gave her extra spoonfuls of the two acceptable dog foods: yuck ptooey
Sat down to eat my own breakfast
Cleaned up after dog
Checked dog’s dish: she has eaten some
Put more yuck ptooey dog food in her dish as a reward for using her pee pad
Folded/put away the laundry from the clothesline.
Put away dry tshirts and brought more out to dry more effectively.
Put away clean dishes

Unboxed one of my laptops to set up
Started new can of dog food: Performatrin turkey and potato which she seemed to like last time
Cut up pills for pill organizer
Gave pill to dog–yay! She likes her food enough that she ate the pill, and she is even kind of eating the formerly rejected open cans
Set up laptop temporarily on dining table
Started installing Windows
Hooray! The sun is streaming into my apartment so I am warm enough.
I can picture that you would have a lot of the same issues that I have, FrenchFly, with four people in a small house. Also, if it is a traditional house without cupboards, then you are giving up floor space for wardrobes, etc. I'm at the intersection of two issues. One is that I live in one room, and still need access to all of the things that we normally put in multiple rooms. The bigger issue is that I am a hoarder at heart, and will stuff every available space with clutter. My advantage is that I snagged a second locker in the basement before prices spiralled out of control and that I am retired so I have time to go through my stuff and get serious about getting rid of stuff, shredding papers, etc. I would be happy to share this journey with you, in as much or as little detail as you like.

Being priested sounds a lot less painful than being pierced, Kittykatt, LOL. I was sincerely hoping that it was a metaphorical piercing, and not literal, LOL.
