Re: The Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday
Kittykatt, I don't understand... .. The Rhode Island Red Chicken's name DOES begin with Th.
Bama, lol! This is sneaky advertising, isn't it? I don't have a henhouse now. If I bought any, I would have to sneak them into my dson's and I'd really get into trouble. (Oh, I could conspire with my dgd and manage it, maybe!)
When I began ordering chicks as an adult, my ddad recommended the Rhode Island Red because of intelligence, saying in his experience they actually lived longer because they were smart enough to avoid predators, My dmother recommended them because she had grown tired of the "Dominecker" (a colloquial name for either the black and white barred Dominique or its descendent, the Barred Rock) breed being just about the only choice for much of her early life and during the Depression. When the Rhode Island Red became more widely available, she had been grateful to see flocks on the landscape that were different from what she considered boring gray flocks! When I was born, she was supplementing her teacher's salary with egg sales from her RRIs.
And yes, they are smart. Their descendant, the New Hampshire Red, even more so, IMO.
I need another errand run before the hot sun gets too high in the sky today. Such temperatures! Have been able to do some outdoor work in the shade.

Re: The Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday
Ooh lots going on here. Yikes on the tornado helian. Glad it was when there was no one at that school but still that's not good. If I remember geography I think gma is relatively near a couple states away. I honestly can't quite remember where she is but same weather patterns that's a lot of damage to deal with.
Frenchie that's always good to figure what is feasible. Yes you can absolutely switch lines of work. My dear friend m finished her ece just a few years ago. At 50 or so.
Well on happy news I have not told anyone irl yet... we found out the other day. Dd is going to have a girl. I'm so excited. Dgs Lil j is here and she is going to give us dgd. I couldn't resist a 3m size little denim dress in the store for her which can go in her shower gift. I think we're going to try and plan one for July when they come here so she can see people again. Dh was actually surprised cause he was kinda expecting our family to end up with more boys. Guess we'll see it's only just begun. I'd be quite surprised if either couple only have 2 kids each lol. Thinking out loud now.
Anyway I did get that chair cleaned last night. And saw mom for a bit. And feel more confident on the flute part. Ds had his dental appointment.. and lots of music and crochet. Plus dad had a successful trip to the city on his own. New glasses. A glaucoma test. And good progress on the legal process. Wills and probably poa for us on him signed and dr part of mom's file almost done.
This morning we have to play by ear.. car is going in for a new windshield. At 8. Dh has to be at work at 730. Ds to school 830. Hmmm. I can choose when to start. Most of it depends if someone is at the shop early. Going to be some back and forth. And how to get it back after.

Congratulations, Lauralind! What a joy.
Oops, helia, it dawns on me - no offence about my dmother's opinion of the "boring" Barred Rocks, lol, it was only because she never saw any other colors for so long. Of course, YOUR Barred Rocks were always lovely!

Hi everyone !
Laura, great news, a baby girl ! I supposed you have the right to buy any cute outfit you see
helia, safe travels to you !
Good luck kitkat with the laundry.
harriet very interesting to read about chicken's differences of intelligence.
Bama maybe just one or two chicks ?
L.Ann that's a lot of medical appts. I'm not caught up on all posts. I hope all is fine with you.
Been busy entertaining two kids today. A few games, lunch, shopped for sport shoes and table tennis balls, then another store, then back for snacks, did some soccer in our tiny yard, now they are allowed to play computer games and watch TV until dinner. It was good to have some time with both and no fights.
I decluttered three tiems from my closet today, that doesn't happen often so I need to boast about it.
TADAs
various things with the boys
a dental appt for end of May
decluttered 3 items from closet
Showered and washed hair before nurse visit so the wound dressing is soaked but won't stay so for too long
TODO
expecting nurse visit anytime
prep dinner, dinner
Kids to bed early, they go to daycare tomorrow + grownups work tomorrow
sleep early, hopefully

Re: The Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday
Hello, all. Germane and I are both hungry and impatiently waiting for the end of her 1-hour post-pill alarm so that we can eat. Not long now.
I'm sorry about the disappointing news about the job that you were interested in, FrenchFly. But it's better to know, so that you can make plans.
I remember reading somewhere that when we are young we are attracted to things that we are good at, to perfect them. But having accomplished that, in middle life we are attracted to careers/activities that build up the areas in which we are weaker, on which we haven't focused up to that point. Nothing could be more reasonable than retraining in your forties and fifties.
Have fun playing table tennis. That sounds like a good way to create some good memories.
Bama may you be clothed in glory as you battle the paper tigers!
On the bright side, helia, the overtaxed arborists in your area will have taken care of your neighbours' trees by the time that you come back, and will be available to take care of yours.
What a relief that you are not trapped by that unresponsive trustee!
Giving up classwork could be a good compromise as you have the administrative work to do now.
I am your weather buddy again today, kitkat. The sky is a solid white, which is kind of cool.
I hope that you are feeling better today.
I am at the of Page 1 and Germane's alarm has just gone off. Onward and foodward!
Thursday
Started gathering dry tshirts to put away
Spotted the runoff from the pee pads
Washed that part of the floor
Got a bag to change pee pads. Germane came to use the pee pads.
Rushed to lift the edge of the pad so it wouldn’t run off again
Washed that part of the floor. Most efficient system. Mop was already loaded and in place.
Changed the pee pads
Gave Germane her heart pill
Set alarm for one hour
Put away dry tshirts
Brought more out to air
Started folding dry laundry

Re: The Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday
LOL Harriet! No offense taken, of course. Your mother was probably right. But-- how did you remember that we had barred rocks? Amazing!! That was years ago, like over a decade ago. I liked our 4 Barred Rock hens (Izzy, Iggy, Ivy, and. . .I can't remember the last I name), but I'm happy to speculate that other breeds are smarter or more beautiful. Friends had yellow/ gold Orpingtons at the time, and they were more beautiful than ours, imho.
L Ann, dh made a nice enclosure for our chickens that had a fenced roof. More than once I found a hawk perched on that beam in the center of the fenced roof and the hens hiding under their coop. I see your appointment is past. Hope all is well.
Yay on the decluttering, FFB! I feel that way too when I declutter.
Congratulations on an upcoming grandbaby girl, Lauralind. Maybe Gma and I experienced the same weather system.
It might be an improvement, kitkat, but that still doesn't sound like enough sleep. DId you get in a walk with dpup?
I'm on the plane. I just finished the course overviews for S4 so now I'm doing something else. I think we have another 2 or so hours on the plane.

Re: The Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday
I have a 95 year old friend who has been keeping chickens on his farm for years. He was an orchestra director for over 50 years, an amazing musician! His chickens are his "girls" since his wife died. He is moving off th eland in just a couple weeks, to assisted living in town. When he would birng eggs, they were brown (light and dark), green, bluish, and rarely, white. Very artistic contents of the egg carton!
Went to lecture on happiness yesterday, community, friends are very important foundation of happiness, he said.
The hail damage to my car is >$8000. The body shop said I could just take the money from insurance and not fix it if I wanted. No paint was chi9pped or cracked, so it will not contribut to rusting.
I took dfPS to eye appointment which was only half a mile from the body shop, so both her eyes and my estimate got done at the same time. And I took my prayer shawl with to sork on while I waited.
We have a "senior expo" this afternoon a t the community center, I will go to.
It's followed by a music program.
I have a local bill to pay.
And have had conversation with my roofer.
After the expo, I will go look again for work boots
Need to do laundry
And pick out an outfit to wear to college president's inauguration which is all day event tomorrow.
I keep noticing that my life is very full, even without my mother.
Has Germane been checked for diabetes? Kidney disease? with symptom of large urine output...
A little lighter load would be nice, helia
FFB, your resonse was so kind an caring.
Hi everyoneelse, I just have to head out!

Re: The Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday
I suppose you've enjoyed breakfast with Germane by this point, Doggedly. Sorry about the bad weather. It was raining when we left Michigan. Good point! The crews ay have more availability to tackle our tree when we return. Fortunately, it's not harming anything, except for a burning bush that it fell on. The wild turkeys were out inspecting it yesterday.
LOL!
Was the hail from the same storm system that spawned a tornado here, Gma? That sounds like a lot of damage.
