Does your house have A/C, trissie? You may have already shared - I just don't remember/ didn't read that bit carefully. That is very hot! Be safe! Glad the funeral was OK and is now in the past.
WTG on the basement progress, kitkat!
The color coding for dogs is a great idea, Kitty! Nice that you can skip the church activity this afternoon and get some rest. I have been up in the arch several times. I probably knew Saarinen's name as the architect - and then forgot it.
FFB, that sounds nice to be included in neighborhood dinner parties/ bbqs. I hope you'll enjoy your new grill! You and Mr.NG seem to cook a lot.
Harriet! It's always so nice to see you here!! I hope you can finish those supplements soon. I eat 1 banana a day -- because I like them. :) If they also have vitamins, that's even better. I do try to avoid eating Reese's candy daily -- but I sure could if they were available. :D

*Skippable* I am up but feeling grumpy but also feeling like that's not a valid feeling for me to have right now. 🤔 I think I'm just hitting the limit of activity/ socializing -- but there's more to come. Positives: Our trip up north was lovely! N. Michigan wilderness is vast and peace-inducing. Dh and dd28 are among my favorite people on the planet, so there was that too. ❤️ But - it has been a lot, and we came home to M and her houseguest friend in the kitchen. M did share her meal with us, meaning we had a social meal (M, her friend, dh, myself), meaning there was basically a one-way flow of social and emotional energy as we reached out to them and asked questions, trying to get to know M's friend whom we've never had a conversation with before. . . They did ask dh questions bc he's a professor, which is interesting to most younger people. But, being the more invisible middle-aged woman, I didn't excite their interest too much. . . Anyhow, that's my grumpy take on it. LOL! Also, my birthday yesterday was not noticed beyond birthday greeting text messages from many, including dh's family. And dh's sister M called me! No cards, treats, gifts. . . It will be celebrated properly at another time.

Today, we'll go to church. There's coffee after church, but I'm going to see if dh is willing to skip it. Then, we have CG2 3:30 - 6ish. We're not hosting this time, thank goodness. We hosted the last 2 times. Then, we're hosting Sunday dinner at 6 - ?. I think M may cook for us all? I'm not sure. . . That's very kind of her. She's on a cooking kick. A family zoom call is scheduled for tonight at 8:15 -- we'll see if it happens since we just saw ds + fam a couple weeks ago.

Tomorrow and Tuesday will be busy as well - no break in sight. Monday, payroll start up again in full force with S6 prep. Tuesday, will be more prep, leading Prof Dev meetings 1-3 pm with AC, and getting my own class set up. Plus, tomorrow, I'm meeting AC for a bd breakfast at 8 a.m. and then friend B is taking me out for my bd lunch with her. I still need to pick the restaurant and time.

My weight is up 2 lbs since we left on the camping trip. The restaurant meals tomorrow will not help. I'll plan on a low-cal dinner tomorrow night.

I'm also facing the conundrum of how to get in enough exercise with the warm temperatures this week. It will be 83* by 7 a.m. - 90* by 9 a.m. most days. 80F is kind of my upper cut off limit. I can try jogging warm - and short.

Back to today!

M's houseguest left this morning. This is the first day in our home without a houseguest since June 10. M has more houseguests arriving this weekend. . . They are HER houseguests and affect us minimally - but they do affect us some as they're in the same house as us and we try to be polite decent people to everyone. :)

kitkat, it was "upstairs RESET" not "upstairs "REST" - but I kinda followed your advice anyway and took a 90 minute nap :-)
school's not out yet for you, Frenchie? I envy you the heatwave being over, but you started before us, so there's that.
Harriet, how nice that your DD is an avid reader!
helia, no AC in our house - up till recently, we'd get maybe a couple days of 95F tops through all of summer, and you can easily manage that with a well insulate brick house. But climate change is real and we really will have to look inti AC :-(
I hear you on feeling ignored - but it seems that it's just that M and her guests were not polite. I mean, you shouldn't really ignore the hostess!

Yesterday's heat records were broken already, one station measured 41.1C (106F). Tomorrow, we should get storms, finally! Of course, it's possible it will be hail, not good for fruit.

TaDas
- lunch
- make one batch of syrup (had to make space in the freezer so I pulled out last year's frozen juice
- sheetcake with cherries
- midday routine
- nap

ToDos
- 30 minute upstairs reset

- slice watermelon for kids

Those are brutal temperatures even with air conditioning, Trissie. It is super humid here today. My friend and I cut our walk short a bit, DD33 has to be sure not to get too much potassium. Little Bit feels she is the potassium monitor and constantly asking her if the food she is eating has potassium in it!
I couldn’t handle that much socializing, helian. I am glad I only have Little Bit 4 days this week!

1-see if laundry and bread need attention

Harriet I had to google Reese's Pieces to be sure, how can there be so much potassium in those... I would prefer to eat fruit myself, I try to keep away from artificial colourings.

helia sorry about so much sociolizing and especially the non-socializing people not making you part of the conversation. If I'm not back before your departure, I wish you a nice camping trip next weekend !

trissie what will you do with the frozen cherries ? I would say baking, but... We will soon have a huge harvest of plums, I'm trying to plan ahead what I can do with them. We still have in the cupboards most of the plum jam we made last July

L.Ann no summer camp for Little Bit this week ? I see you have a busy schedule for the week.

It's grey outside, no rain, sweet temperatures, perfect. MrNG spent some more time in the garden. Tomatoes and potatoes have suffered from the heat. Zucchini and beans and peas are thriving.
We have an appt with an electrician on Tuesday, MrNG will be home, to replace the old electrical panel (the thing with the fuse box) with a new one, for safety reasons. He will also add a few electrical outlets on some walls. We should declutter the areas he will work in, and empty the smallest freezer. The large one (not that large but larger than the tiny one) will remain plugged thanks to DNeighbours A-- and B-- who will run an extension cord from their house to our laundry room where the freezer is.
So we will have ice-cream for dessert tonight and tomorrow. :D

TADAs
go to ATM to get cash to buy plancha
more time in garden
hand-wash some clothes
check the weekly list

TODOs
move or exercise
oversee homework
showers, lunchboxes, clothes for tomorrow
dinner will be things from the freezer, we have many leftovers
make list for the upcoming week (include gifts for teachers and FIFA soccer game on Tuesday 11pm)

Frenchie, yes, the cherries are for baking, but they are also very nice to snack on them (still frozen) :-) Re plums, maybe you could try pitted plums in light syrup? They are lovely as a dessert (we LOVE a bowl of canned fruit after a Sunday lunch! Kids consider it almost good a dessert as ice cream!), but they can be also served with yogurt and granola for a well-rounded breakfast (and they are good for... uhm... regular digestion :-) Dried plums work too for snacks :-)
DinoTales, L.Ann? How fun! :-)

All of your grandma adventures make me jealous. But hey, at least this year my mother remembered to call DBD for her birthday instead of mentioning to me "give her my best wishes" on my next call! (I was kinda mean earlier this month and after she boasted how much time she spends with my nephew, I told her that she could also sometimes at least call my kids, because they are her grandkids too)

- slice watermelon for kids

ToDos
- afternoon routine

Hello, all. I am a bit irritated today, as the fire alarm went off again around 4:00 am and again just now. There's obviously no fire, as it just gets turned off after the fire department arrives. This last one got turned off with no sirens from the fire department at all. If this keeps up, the building will start getting fined from the fire department, so I expect that they are already motivated to get to the bottom of it.

Kittykatt, thank you for starting us off. Enjoy church and your lunch out.
I love that proverb. It's so true.

trissie, I have missed something. Did your DMIL pass away? Or was that very hot funeral for a more distant relation? I feel for you outside in that heat.

Oh for crying out loud, there goes that fire alarm again not even two hours later.

That sounds like a wind break or a privacy hedge, kitkat. Would the row of trees make sense in either of those contexts?
WTG on your progress in the basement. It feels great when you start to see the results.

FrenchFly, I'm glad that you are facing less heat than before. Our forecast is for 30s C next week, which is normal summer temperature for us.

Hi, Harriet.

It has taken me a few hours to CUOP the first page, I hope to be a little more focussed when I CUOP Page 2.

Sunday
Made coffee
Cleaned up after dog
Changed out kitchen towels and cloths
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed a few basinsful of dishes
Heart pill for dog
Researched how to turn off that annoying screenshot popup that keeps interrupting me and turned off its shortcut

Dogged, nope, MIL is still around, but DFIL never has a proper funeral as that's apparently also not a thing done in their family. There was supposed to be a "placement of the urn", which DH thought would be just him and his sister, so at first he was OK with it being at 5pm on a schoolday, but then found out everybody (other than me and his kids) would be coming and that there would be a restaurant booked. After some very ugly family drama, the date got moved so that we could all attend. However, when it was rescheduled, we didn't know how the weather would turn out!

Oh, (((trissie))), it's not that I don't have family members like that, it's that growing up in foster care made it easier for me to shed them. I hope that for all the drama, that the ceremony brought your DH some piece that he has done right by his dfather.

helia, you have an extremely busy, social life for an introvert, and it's been crazy busy lately. You are allowed to feel irritated when your battery is drained. As for turning invisible as an older woman, that is the introvert's superpower. Own it.

L.Ann, that is sweet that Little Bit wants to play nurse for her daunt33.

FrenchFly, I hope that the potatoes are just grumpy above ground but thriving below where it's cooler.
I'm glad that you have good neighbours who are willing to share electricity while you get yours sorted out.

Sunday
Made coffee
Cleaned up after dog
Changed out kitchen towels and cloths
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed a few basinsful of dishes
Heart pill for dog
Researched how to turn off that annoying screenshot popup that keeps interrupting me and turned off its shortcut
Put away the dry tshirts
Put the rest of them out to finish drying
Put away dry dishes
Wiped down accessible surfaces
Sprayed the counters and gave them a good wipe
Extracted the rock hard brownies from the pan, which was a lot easier than I imagined as it came out as a solid piece of chocolate hard tack. Discarded it and soaked the pan

Germane is showing no signs of re-emerging from the bathroom to get her breakfast, so it seems that I will have wake her if I want to wash my hair.

Well, my irritation is right there at the top of page 2 to join yours, Doggedly. LOL! Thank you for that encouragement about turning invisible! I did have that thought last night at dinner bc I was so tired of socializing. . .
Two shelves of homemade goodies sound pretty sweet, trissie! (Sweet as in fabulous, not necessarily sugar-y. :) ) That's an improvement if your mother called DBD on her birthday!
LOL @ Little Bit being the potassium monitor, L Ann! Knowing the area of the country where you are, I'm not surprised it's very hot and humid. Stay safe. I'm not sure I can handle this much socializing. I feel on edge, about ready to snap. I'm afraid I'm going to get myself in trouble with some snarky comment.

Plan B for the day: no church. We're now planning to cut short the camping trip next week just because we're both becoming overwhelmed by the amount of social activity. Also, this campground is only 2 hours away!! So, we'll go to church next week. (Having to skip church next week was part of our reasoning for going today.) SO, I went for a 3 mile jog this morning. Also, AC has moved our breakfast to Tuesday, so that means that: (1) I can jog tomorrow morning early as well! :) and (2) I won't go to the KS2J get together, if it happens Tuesday morning, because the plan is for AC and I to go back to the school to work together after breakfast out.

I'm washing towels since we have NO clean kitchen towels at the moment - after 2 weeks of houseguests. M is also doing laundry - but she let me squeeze in 1 load. . . She is washing all the guest bedding, including dsil M's. I'm not sure why. I guess that's nice, BUT I'd prefer it if she didn't do that laundry and let me do my own laundry instead. (We have a lot after the camping trip.) Then, M volunteered to make a salad for dinner tonight. When I asked if she was going to use our salad stuff or if she was buying her own, she didn't answer directly - but it became clear that she was planning on using our salad stuff. I actually don't mind. What I do mind is the assumption that the salad fixings are hers to use. She is feeding us with it - there is that, but I don't want to be presumed upon. We likely are also paying for all the food, as we do for Sunday dinners. That's OK -- but it is something. I have strong personal boundaries and they're feeling bruised right now, probably moreso because I'm just so done socializing and taking care of other people. M has 2 more friends staying here Friday - Tuesday. Ack!! :?

I am moving all the towels I put downstairs for our houseguests (Dniece L and ds + fam.) back upstairs. I don't think M needs them for her houseguests.

Next:
- let M know what I'm doing with towels - need to check if some of them were living downstairs anyway
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower

Later:
- make bed
- darks: w d f pa
- lights: w d f pa

- 6:30 - ? host Sunday dinner

I know I am overwhelmed when I start snapping at DD33, helian. There is no camp this week, FFB…. I think to give everyone off for the Fourth of July. Then Little Bit has swim lessons for 2 weeks. After that she has one week of camp and then she will be with me before school for a month before school starts. If it works out the plan will be different for school. DD39 was originally going to try to work her schedule around the school schedule but since I know how much she works I think that is unrealistic. We are going to start with me putting her on the bus every day which should mean I have her 45 min to an hour in the morning. Then I will meet the bus on Wednesdays and watch her and the neighbor’s little girl for about 90 minutes. DD39 and the neighbor will split pick up on the other 4 days. I will still have her on days off.

1-clean up kitchen
2-make DD33’s lunch for tomorrow, set up coffee, make honey mustard dressing
3-mop bathroom

4- walk
5-read

Menus:
Sunday-curry spiced chickpea wraps
Monday-Cajun salmon and roasted veggies
