I have no clue how people can eat out and still eat healthy foods and amounts. Removing fresh produce from the selection makes it even more difficult.
Obviously, it is possible because so many people can do it. I am not one of those people. I feel like there is a secret skill or talent that I am missing. I need to do some research to find items I can eat at fast foods places.

Lady M, over here large establishments have to list the calories for each dish. Also many places will.offer a smaller sized portion ( often labelled something like "light bites") as well as their standard sized meal. Dishes are also labelled.if they are vegetarian/ vegan / gluten free etc which can help when deciding. Some establishments also list which dishes contain known allergens (such as nuts).

The salad contamination sounds nasty (I read an article which gave graphic descriptions!) I don't know if you're able to order cooked vegetables instead of salad? Are you able to order the meat without the bun? Drinking water instead of soft drinks also saves calories and means you don't put sugar / sweeteners/ colourings / other junk into your body.

Another tip , is to order just a starter and dessert, and ask for the starter to be served at the same time as everyone else's main course. (You could always skip the dessert as well if necessary).

Thank you for the wise ideas and suggestions.
I know it is possible, but it certainly isn't easy. Of the dozen or so eating places nearest to me, most all of them are very limited on gluten free. Taking away the fresh produce eliminates most of those limited options.
I can order meat, eggs and potato. That is about all that is available.
For the 2nd day in a row I ordered chicken and potatoes.
The best option for me is to pack my food from home and take it with me. I used to do this but have gotten out of that habit.
