The air quality isn’t nearly as bad here, helian. I am more concerned about those near the fires. They must be horrible.

Hello, all. It's a nice cool rainy day here. We all have the tendency to only see what still needs to be done, and I'm feeling that as I look around my apartment. But I know that I put in a good effort yesterday, so things must be better than if I hadn't tried.

Thank you for another fun start, Kittykatt, and thank you for the information about Olio. I checked into it, and found that it's active in our biggest cities, but not really where I am. I can imagine that it would have trouble taking off here, as there is a service called 2 good 2 go where you get a random bag of food but you have to pay for it. And people have posted online showing that sometimes it's a very good deal, but other times they would have been better just to order and pay the full price. Stores would tend to prefer the 2 good 2 go, as they get some money for it though less than full price. And, of course, their instore markdowns, which they also get money for. What I like about The Good Food Box program (not to be confused with the newer commercial venture of the same name) is that the food is cheap because the province buys in bulk and ships the fruit and vegetables to main sorting sites, and from there it is divided and delivered to pick up sites by volunteers. So we are getting the same quality as in the stores and we know what we are getting; we are just paying wholesale prices. I'll just keep watching for delivery sites that are more reasonable for me to get to.
My kitchen is envious of yours. I did wash some dishes yesterday, but it needs a big clear up too. And I won't tell you what my plants have to say, but if some strange and straggly plants show up in your garden, know that they are stowaways from Canada.

That's as far as I got in CUOP, but I'm going to go ahead and post it. I am assembling a table, and I don't dare to stop as I laid the pieces out on a comforter on the floor. I now have to be ready to spring into action if Germane decides that it is a pee pad. I did lay pee pads right outside the bathroom door in the hope that they will be more attractive to her.
Once I have gotten far enough, I'll have a phone visit with my db.

Have a good day, all.

That;s a great book, kittykatt

Boundary Waters wilderness area between Minnesota and Canada has multiple fires, and I guess the area is growing. Our governor has called in the national guard to hep fight the fires, and outfitters at entry points have been called on to rescue canoers/ campers. Normally motors are prohibited in that area, but being allowed for rescue purposes. I don't know much more than that. Heard this on the news yesterday and it sounded scary for them. I am >200 miles away, so safe, and spending much time inside so not aware of smoke either.
dbro has 3 or 4 things on the list for today. We had cantaloupe, and a caramel pecan roll for breakfast together.
Ds is smoking a pork loin for supper and I made coleslaw and a corn salad last night. We'll have ice cream with rhubarb sauce for dessert. I might make some biscuits also, if I am home long enough.
I'll be working on various things at mother's house, and helping dro as needed.

You are all busy, very inspiring !

I don't dare think about those living close to the fires. Interestingly, in France there have been many forest fires, but the one that was most talked about in the news is the one in the Fontainebleau forest, very close to Paris and where many Parisian people go for hikes or climbing trips (because there are kinds of big boulders there). Not a big fire in comparison to others, though. I guess it's only when the capital city is witnessing fires that people start to wonder if this climate change thing is real for them too...

TADAs
lunch and cleanup
handwashed two clothing items
some kind of very long nap, waking up and dozing off again, 2-3pm until almost 5pm
sorted pics and stuff from my laptop
now thinking about dinner

Yup. We have 200 wild fires in Ontario alone, about 80 of which are out of control. About a week ago, a Canadian firefighter died helping fight the fires in Colorado, as the U.S. is facing the same climate issues as we are. But this week, we have American politicians threatening to take Canada to court, sanction us or tariff us because the smoke drifted across the border. It goes from state politicians all the way up to the president, and is reinforced by the American ambassador to Canada, just in case we thought that they weren't serious.

I had not heard of the wildfire in the Fontainebleau Forest, FFB. Is the smoke affecting you? I hope everyone stays safe.
I hope you got some good stuff at the farmers' market, L Ann.
How has the table assembly gone, Doggedly? --Oh, my goodness. I'm so sorry about the inane political threats. And about the Canadian firefighter who died helping our country. The US also clearly has wildfires burning out of control.
I'd heard there were fires in Minnesota too, Gma. Stay safe.

I think areas far from the fires can actually have worse air quality than areas closer to the fires, depending on the wind. Thus, Detroit had the worst air quality in the world on Thursday, yet there are no fires near Michigan. The areas where the fires actually are would, I think, of course have the worst air quality. I assume people have been evacuated -- but maybe the fires are largely in uninhabited/ park areas? Fewer people to evacuate? I'm not sure.

Dh says it looks like the wind will change again, and the smoke will be blown back over us overnight. We shall see. . .We're also forecast to get thunderstorms, and right now, it is quite sunny! The air is clear, and we can see the sun!

We enjoyed visiting with our girls and Fable at the dog park at the beach this morning. Fable had a fabulous time playing with the other dogs in the water - and out of it. She got exhausted, wet, and very sandy.

Good afternoon! (Sorry jumping in... CUOP will need to wait a bit) Hope everyone is well here.

Certainly a few chaotic days with wild storms, smoke and more smoke drifting our way...
I spent a few days with DKids and ddogs ... on our way home we had a tornado warning after a night of showers and thunderstorms...

Now, we have depressing darkness, but things are looking up tomorrow.
I must:

start a lol (no water in basement, YAY)
make a soup
take pup out / and feed

LOL, furniture assembly is always an adventure for me, helia. I put the main part of the base, with the most pieces together. I had to take half an hour out to carry Germane back and forth across the comforter I put on the floor as a work surface. In the end, she decided that it was all so upsetting that she needed to sit in Mom's lap for a while, and then took herself back off to bed in the bathroom with a disapproving look over her shoulder. The pieces I put together created something the size and shape of a quilt rack, so I draped the comforter over it and took a break to have a phone visit with my db. I can now return to table assembly.
I hope that we all stay safe, and that there is as little loss of life and property as possible. We don't blame individual people for what the politicians do.
I'm glad that you and Fable had a good time at the beach.

We had impressive thunder and a downpour for a short while here, kitkat, but other than that it's just been normal rain. We're even getting a bit of sun through the clouds now. I'm hoping the rain went where it's needed.

Saturday
Moved box
Arranged phone visit
Rearranged air conditioner drainage
Checked air conditioner insert
Changed Germane’s pee pads
Checked contents of box
Laid comforter to spread the pieces out
Put together the base pieces
Heart pill for Germane
Carried Germane back and forth across the comforter for half an hour
Cleaned up after Germane
Used the base as a quilt rack to get comforter off of the floor
Fed Germane
Phone visit with db
