Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends in the village! And Happy Normal Day to all my village friends in other countries!

I've had a pretty good normal day.

Hair cuts - check.
Banking - check.
Lunch at a better choice for eating - check.
Milk on sale - check.
Costco run (including coming up with gift ideas plus buying 3 gifts) - check
Tail light bulb for car - check.
Avoiding major traffic mess - check. (Our route ended up with no delays at all thanks to dh spotting the traffic backed up several miles in front of us and getting off that road at the last chance.)
Dinner out with dh - check.
Picked up another HGP item on sale - check.
Mail picked up - check.
Car unloaded - check.
Finish unpacking the winter outer-wear - check (this is an emotional task for me because a lot of the mitts and hats were made by my mom and worn by my dad, plus the scarf I made him is in the box too.)

Next challenge is to vacuum and dust the bedroom level and then hang up the load of laundry that just finished running. At that point, I'll call it a day.

Done with turkey dinner dishes are going family has left. Sniff sniff ~ now I'm taking a break doing 15 min. rounds and have the chairs back upstairs, wiped off the table food is in the fridge. What surprised me was what a hit that sweet potato fries were! A friend of mine that's a neighbor of dson came too so we had a doz. folk here.

Dson's turkey was good and he had a smoked one that tasted like ham a bonus first turkey day with three kinds of bird! BBQ one h. did was my fav. Dd brought green bean casserole I asked her what was in it so now I know first one I've had. One pie & one piece is gone. The kitchen counters are reclaimed, time to mop the kit. floor. We like stove top better that Wmart gr. val. brand stuffing. I saved the jars of gravy and poured the rest back in it that was left over. Most every one had 2nds a sign of a great meal!

Don't think I need dinner.

Our meal is over, too, and I have a little of the snif, snif feeling. But that's okay. I got to hold the baby for a nice long while, and the two of us talked and talked. He smiles easily and tries to mimic your mouth motions. Ddil got a photo of him on the quilt I always put on the floor for the babies. It's the first time he's been on it. They also brought me a Santa photo with the baby smiling wide. My ddad had to lie down for part of the evening but was up and enjoying the conversation later.

I considered paper plates for this evening but went for the red tablecloth and our everyday dishes instead. The gold napkins I bought to go with the paper plates did beautifully on the red cloth. I did a load of dishes in the dishwasher 2 hours before we expected them to arrive and that worked out well, with most of the prep dishes ready to dry before the meal dishes were even used.

Nice day here... we enjoyed our dinner & time w/dbil's family and all his assorted inlaws.... then went over to dfil/dmil's for a little while... and I called dstepgm but they were all leaving from the Tgiving dinner there by the time I called, so we didn't try to go visit them.
DH offered to go to dcousin's house with me -- the parents of the dcousin who passed away yesterday. That was sad, of course, and certainly tempered my holiday-feelings... but I was so glad dh wanted to go with me. Let's see if y'all can follow this -- it will make you CERTAIN that I truly am 100% Southern. Dcousin's mom is my mom's first cousin; our grandmothers were sisters. Dcousin's DAD is dfil's first cousin. Dh's grandmother and dcousin's grandfather were brother & sister. And yes... if we continue tracing it back, the families were connected long before dh & I married. Dcousin's parents are 5th cousins, I think, if we are counting correctly. (I think dh & I come in at 7th or 8th cousins to each other.)
See what I mean? To quote GWTW: "The Wilkes always marry their cousins."

To further solidify the Southern heritage of the day -- we were entertained by an argument between dbil & dnephew re: whether or not Clark Gable was a "big star" before GWTW.

We even topped off the day w/some bluegrass music from ds & ddil. Dbil's inlaws love to hear him play but never get the chance, so they always look forward to seeing him on the years we celebrate with them.

I hope ddil enjoyed her first Southern Thanksgiving.

ANYWAY -- while we were visiting at dcousin's house, my parents came over also, so we got to see them, too.

On their way home, dmom called to tell me they had hit a deer! She wanted me to call a friend to see if he wanted to get it for the meat, but before I could find his phone number, the police arrived and told them they could dispose of it -- it was not dparents' responsibility. No one was hurt, but they're going to need a new bumper/headlight/etc.

I think dh & I are going to a movie in a little while. No late night shopping for me. I cannot deal with the crowds.

Just think... NEXT Thanksgiving, I'll have a little one on a quilt! Well -- no -- I think ds & ddil will be spending next Tgiving w/her family -- as well they should -- but how strange to imagine that I'll be snif snif-ing and holding a little one. How unbelievable.

Harriet I had that sniff sniff feeling too after family left.
Dishes are done and unloaded now. It's raining outside I told h. & he moved the grill.
I've put away serving dishes platters plates & more now yea for progress!

We've had left overs for dinner that we did not need! LOL!
Glad I got the floors mopped.

Sil & dgson were glad after neumerous attemps to find a news paper when I suggested he look up home depot on the net for the sales for tomorrow, dgson13 looked up W-mart and I think they are going at midnight to the later.

I need to look at the thrift & $1 store for four more place settings for my holiday dishes.

We had 41 lbs. of turkey here! You know your are a success when you learn how to do a feast from your kids! Dgds made the stuffing!

(((Indi))), at that scary percentage in your post. So very thankful that you survived & are back home recuperating. The village was not the same without you. We missed you!

(((Harriet))), my ddad did the same thing with the remote & almost drove my mother over the edge. What about removing the batteries from the remote? When he wants another lesson you can tell him it doesn't work anymore & manually turn the TV on to his favorite channel instead.

We had an enjoyable time at dbro & dsil today. We had the early visit as her family was coming over at 5PM. They cooked a turkey & we brought several side dishes. Dbro had picked up dmom & ddad & it was nice to see dmom so relaxed for a change. In the past we have gone to restaurants at ddil's request & dmom was always tense & hyper focused on ddad even though she was on the opposite end of the table (dbro always feeds him at Thanksgiving). Today he fed ddad first & he napped in a chair while everyone else ate. He has such a hard time chewing & swallowing now . Scared me several times when he choked on vegetables. Fortunately he did well with mashed potatos & yams.

We took the back roads home & relaxed with some TV for a while. Now dh is watching football & I'm not . The plan for tomorrow is to get grave blankets & go to the cemetery, put up the outside decorations & finish decorating inside. I was way too optimistic the other day when I said I hoped to get all the inside decorations up in a day . Then Saturday we'll put up the tree. Dcat will be especially happy about that -- he loves sleeping on the skirt underneath the tree .
