Wide-Awake Wednesday

Oh my goodness, I am tired.
I think I told y'all my computer has been on the blink at school. Well, I got it back today. Well -- got my old hard drive back in a new case w/a new motherboard. Let's hope this works.
The great majority of my day was spent transferring stuff from laptop to external hard drive to new desktop. * sheesh *
Spent the first of my two "free periods" with this & proofreading what students had typed already.
Spent the second of my two "free periods" eating my lunch -- two hours late -- and getting things straightened up while students typed more.
3:00 -- LONG faculty meeting -- in which many things were discussed which made me slightly uneasy, but which will most likely not come to pass...
Then went back to my room sometime after 4:00 and worked till 5:30. * whew *
I called dparents when I started out the front door, in the darkness, you know... partly just so I'd have someone on the phone in case I got knocked in the head or something. I think I was the very last person out of the building except the basketball coach & his players, and basketball practice was on the other side of the building from me. I was sooo glad ddad answered the phone, b/c I like for him to know that teaching is not just an 8-3 job that leaves me with all this leisure time to be at everyone's beck and call.
* Our school is not in a bad neighborhood or anything, and we've never had any sort of violence that I can recall -- other than the typical student fights every now & then -- but a few years back, there was a really terrible incident in our district, involving a teacher after-hours, and it has made us all a bit more wary of working late alone.

Anyway -- dparents did NOT need anything from me.
I went to the bank, home, and then went out to eat w/dh & ds. Ddil was working.

Also got the news today that dh's cousin's wife passed away AND a longtime former employee of dinlaws also passed away today. We will need to attend both services, or at least visitations, and dcousin's wife is about 3 hours away. DH told me I did not have to go, that he could go by himself, or ds might go with him. We were not really-really close, but it IS a first cousin (whose father, now deceased, was the preacher who married dh & me). When dh talked to him tonight, he said he could tell dcousin does NOT expect us to attend service Saturday, but he knew our presence would be truly appreciated.
DH told him we would really try to be there, but if the former employee's service is at the same time, we will have to stay for that.

So...
WHEN am I going to do Christmas shopping???
WHEN am I going to put up a tree & decorations???
WHEN am I going to sleep again???
* sigh *

Actually, I think I'll take care of that last one pretty quickly. I just don't think I can stay upright much longer tonight.

And please forgive me for the ranting and whining and for pretty much ignoring everyone around me tonight.
Aunt Flo has arrived, I've had 4 hours sleep, and I am really not at the top of my game.

Keeping the Wide-Awake Wednesday theme going even though it is after midnight so technically it's Thursday!

Had tea & chocolate after a late dinner & am tired but not sleepy. Need to be up early & do a lot of running around tomorrow so hoping I fall asleep quickly once my head hits the pillow.

Have been keeping up with posts but then run out of time to post myself. So many of you dealing with difficult situations are frequently on my mind.

Was able to get my thoughts down on paper & organized for Christmas this week. Just wish I had set up my Holiday Notebook first instead of writing things down on separate notepads. Have started shopping & only need a few more items. Dnephew has a winter birthday so I usually buy his gift now while all the sales & selection are good. The big bag we keep Christmas cards in was brought downstairs with the decorations & I need to go through that tomorrow before leaving the house. I think I have an unopened box or two in there but my memory gets fuzzy from year to year. All the mentions of card writing today makes me want to join you all & get a jump on them, too.

Elizabeth, this popped into my head as I read your post about not wanting to watch so many videos with your dd. What about picking out some board games with her? You could make playing games one of your Girls Night Out activities. My dnieces (& dnephews) loved doing crafts at all ages & it has been a wonderful bonding experience for all of us -- lots of fun plus interesting conversations . Maybe take a stroll through a craft store with her & see what she might be interested in making.The big chain stores have 40% coupons almost every week, & often run classes, too. Game night or crafting night could become a tradition that you both look forward to.
