My day has certainly flipped since I posted last.
First -- I am now speaking to you via my aol desktop... computer seems to be running better... all my favorites re-appeared nicely... mouse even seems to be scrolling better... all is well. I just downloaded the aol desktop from the internet, since I could not find a installment disk anywhere around here. (I still haven't checked out my new version of Word, etc... and I still can't get into my at&t page.)
Second -- dgson is napping nicely in his little carrier in our den. DS has taken ddil out to eat and to spend her birthday money on new clothes! Tomorrow is actually her birthday (20) and we'll have pizza @ dmil's tomorrow night, but we went ahead and gave her her present tonight so she could splurge a little.
Dgson was a little fussy when he arrived, but he calmed down and let me read him a book, LOL! Then we gave him his bottle and he has been back to his little sound-sleeper self ever since.
Third -- Look mom, no cavities! Good report from dentist office, which was such a relief! I celebrated w/chick-fil-a AND a cupcake from new gourmet cupcake place. My first ever. Oh my goodness. It was sooo delicious. Those things have about as much icing as they do cake... and probably more calories than any human needs in a week... and they had so many flavors it was almost impossible to decide... BUT -- at $3.54 each, I was certainly not going to indulge in more than one, and I will not be indulging often!
So, I've had a pretty good day. I guess I'll go watch dgson sleep some more.

I promise I'll never name a thread flip again! Glad you are ok, Harriet. Your description of your fall reminded me of the time I stumbled down the last few stairs from the bedroom level and fell through the decorative cutouts between the dining room and the front hall - as bad as that was, the cut-out in the wall meant I didn't bounce off the wall and fall down the second staircase. Another thing we have in common - spectacular falls.

My late afternoon and evening has been quiet.

I ended up on my bed for a nap but my headache didn't go away. Dinner didn't help either so I ended up taking something at 7 for it. Now I'll have to take tylenol at bed because it will be too soon for advil again.

Dh did up the dishes for me after dinner.

I still haven't listened to my choir songs for today - dh made a cd for the car that had all our songs on it but both times he made it, the computer said the process failed even though the first song was fine. Turns out the remaining songs failed so I didn't get to listen to it in the car while driving today.

I can't believe how hot it is here, it peaked at 98. We are very lucky that it is a 'dry' heat. The article in the paper said that power consumption is nowhere near overloaded and I suspect it is because we don't need a/c at night. When it is 65 but really, really, humid, one is tempted to use the air all night long, but when it is 65 and dry, then some people (maybe most people?) open their windows and use fans.

As well, we have only had 2 breathing advisory days this year so we are all feeling hot but none of the other side effects that we usually get with heat. Plus no mosquitoes (it is too dry) and no cut lawn allergies (the lawns are all dormant so no-one is cutting them right now.)

Ran through all the recorded songs once. My current hardest one, twice. Also did some work at the piano on certain phrases.

Then I took the one I've only sung once through and worked on my photocopy of it, literally wiping out all notes on the staff that aren't mine. This is the song that has me singing either the bottom line of the treble clef or the top line of the bass clef and at one point on the treble clef, the altos sing the top notes on the treble clef, just to confuse things further. In total, the song requires a 2 octave range. I have that, barely, but not the D to D, I have E to E.

Oh, and we end on the A above middle C but for me, it is actually written on the bass clef. Not helpful. So I've simply wiped out all other notes to make it easier to follow mine and to see the words. On some pages (but not all) there is an extra set of staff lines (with notes and words) but we aren't singing that (it is if you happen to have a choir with 8 part harmony, we only have 6 part harmony.) So I've also whited out the words between that pair of staffs so I won't try and sing down there.

I'm looking forward to learning all the notes so I can start work on dynamics and breathing. And to hear how it is all going to come together (at practice we don't do who songs, just a few bars here and there, where the harmony is most complicated because there isn't enough time to do whole songs over and over.)

Lilac, you need to stand your ground and not get sucked in too deep with DD's business and family life. It sounds like she is setting up her life for a big disaster.

OKay, I am happy your kid's house sold. I'm happy for everyone who has had success selling their properties. I just wish I could have done the same.

My Friday Flip was that DGSs went home this evening. I always wish I had more (grand)parenting skills once they are gone; more patience, more ideas for controlling difficult situations, more energy.. but they are happy once again. We have a couple issues to deal with but feel sure those will be ironed out soon. DD didn't think we should pay DGS but he did work in our business, and his time is worth something...so we have disagreed but will straighten it out one day. He was nice and gracious about it but disappointed I think. We will make it right. I am holding on to his $ for him and will make sure he gets it soon. It is hard for families to take money from each other I think.

I got towels in the washer now. One bed has new sheets back on. Most of the toys are put away. That's progress. I will work on the rest tomorrow.

Wanted to say hello to Harmony! Hope you get a good long rest tomorrow!!! You have definitely earned it.
I imagine your dgchildren don't notice ANY shortcomings in the patience, energy, ideas, etc. areas -- I bet they think you're doing great! How old is dgs? If he's old enough to work in the business, then (IMHO) should be enough for dd to realize he earned the money. You did well though, to let her be the boss, where dgs was concerned. As you've already mentioned -- that's something else we now have in common -- keeping these "grandmother" lips zipped. * sigh *

Well... I can't stay long... just wanted to check in again before heading to bed myself. I guess. Bedtime gets later and later around here.
EEEEK! I just realized school starts 1 MONTH from tomorrow. I'll need to adjust bedtime then, that's for sure. * sigh *
