my rooster story
When I was about 3 I remember being in the chook yard with dm and there were 2 big black roosters that seemed as big as me eyeballing me - looking / being aggressive - Now I can 't remember which. I think they were dispatched soon after. The best mother hen ever was a black one. She was the only one"allowed" to sit on eggs for a rare new brood of chicks.
Another I swear happened maybe 10 years later - though others in family dispute it as fantasy - not that they were there. I was awake early and heard a runkus of chook noise, went down to the chook yard, opened the door and said to them all bothering with each other - "who is in charge here?" and the rooster stepped forward and crowed. I think I told them to settle down - and they did, and I went back to bed. That was a moderate sized red rooster with coloured tail feathers.
Two neighbours here have hens - one has 2 roosters that have grown from two sets of three silky chicks. They get put in the shed or garage at night to avoid having them crow at first light. Wondering - haven't heard them as much lately. Recently one was finding its crow and practicing often. Maybe they turned into dinner. Other neighbours chooks sometimes break thru the fence to forage at my place.

Had a phone call from an aquaintance with angst this morning. Prayers for B in her current state. Not sure of the reality of all she frets over - though it is very real to her, I have no answers and she seems to have injured herself putting boxes up high clearing spaces. There is an inspection - she says - in 27 hours.

Missed church.
Today I need get back to everyday routine doings. If there was an inspection here I'd be found wanting.

On my PODA, the only item I did was to crochet on my shawl. I had planned on reading a binder of collected short stories, but ended up cracking open a book on writing instead. Wehaven't dust mopped the house, nor did I walk. However, I have some ta da's:

- ate breakfast, took meds, supplements
- shampooed, showered first thing this a.m.
- sorted and read the mail
- put 2 new pen pals in my addy book
- emptied the DW with DH's help
- washed DH's "getting firewood" dirty-dirty clothes
- De-wrinkled 2 pairs of cords for me
- Read on 1 book
- Did emails
- Planned out our dinner
- downloaded free books
- napped
- worked on my calendar
- watched the evening news
- replied to an email from DD

We're having a lazy low-key day today. I sort of feel fatigued and like I'm having a reaction to my flu shot.

I had some trouble getting here this afternoon also.

It's been cloudy today and even more so as afternoon became evening. We worked outside for a while doing much needed yardwork. Dh trimmed unwanted bushes that sprout on their own and I trimmed the ixora bush that grows by the corner of the house in back yard. I used the heavy pruning shears with long handles, I think my arms are going to be sore tomorrow! It's been a couple of years since this bush was trimmed and was taller than the roof and blocking the light at the corner of the house.

MT... hope you can stop the cold quickly. It's always nice to see old friends again!

Wanted to tell Harmony.... (if you don't already know) our dcousin uses a cpap machine. She got a new one the last year or so and says it is a lot quieter than the first one.

OKay's dinner and Helia's banana bread sound delicious! We will also mash up the ripe bananas and make pancakes for breakfast with them.

Scattered.... thank you for your service. My dh was active duty Navy for 4 years, then in reserves for another 6 years.

So...weekend duty is finished: floors mopped, carpet swept, bathrooms cleaned. Tomorrow morning will do kitchen detailing and a couple of lol. Dfam#2 will be here tomorrow for chicken on the grill. Have to figure what else to have with it and something for dessert.

Uh-oh I hear thunder rumbling outside.

Dh always says no to flu shots; he's had them before and they make him sick. My ddad used to get them every year from his company doctor where he worked and he was sick for 3 days afterward.

My daunt had a dairy farm in Gettysburg and raised a big flock of chickens for a couple of years. We used to walk among them and I don't remember them chasing us. However, she raised turkeys a couple of times and they were very aggressive and would chase us.

Working on the Sunday School program. Of course, I'm going with the tech heavy options. There's a little drama for them to do to reinforce the lesson. I'm taking my camera (which does low res video too), my computer and an extra monitor and will video the kids and then replay it for them. I'll also put it aside and if it is good enough, think about pulling together a service for 'upstairs' that includes snippets of what the kids were doing all year 'downstairs.'

Turns out the CD for this curriculum is both an audio CD and CD Rom and included the sheet music and extra lyric sheets for the songs. So I've printed off the music and will hand it to two of the older kids (one plays drums, the other piano) and see if they'll learn it to play as the gathering music one Sunday. Then we can also sing the song later in the service since I can project the lyrics since the CD includes a power point copy of the lyrics.

This is a 'one room' curriculum so I need to come up with activities for age 3 to age 12. I should have 7 or 8 (depends if the 3 year old's baby sister is up to coming to church!) and could conceivably have 15 if everyone shows (unlikely.)

For those of you having trouble getting here today - yes, GoDaddy was down again, just selected sites hosted on servers in one location, for about 2 hours today.

So it was GoDaddy, again, and not us.

Hi everybody. I really had no interest in doing anything today... but then I decided to put an old credit card through my new shredder. It worked so nicely. Much better than the way I used to try to cut up old credit cards.

So, the new shredder was well worth the $95. at Costco.

Very, very quiet as well.


So, other than being able to safely rid myself of old credit cards, I'm afraid I didn't do much else.

My retired husband, who has alllllll week to do stuff did the dishes before he went out.

Emptynester, you know the supplements that you feel do you good when you have a cold. Beyond that, I would take a Nyquil single (I mean single capsule or equivalent) for a better night's sleep. Around here, some 24-hour cold has been making the rounds. I hope that's all you have.
