It's sunny, will be 84* here, DH and his friend stacked a dump truck load of wood at our house. They'll work until around noon - 1 p.m.

My PODA:
- Crochet on my shawl
- To empty the DW
- To get some reading done (I'm way behind and it's mounted up on me! Maybe I'm a reading hoarder?)
- Crochet on a gift afghan
- Sort laundry, but I don't think there's enough to do a load.

Ta Da so far:
- made the bed
- read my devotional
- did my prayers
- wrote in my journal
- had breakfast, etc...
- read news
- listened to the news
- made a good-bye email to a DF who will be gone to CO for 3 weeks. I'll miss her so much!

Helia, I'm glad you survived your ironing experience! I haven't ironed anything for a long time, but have a few things that would look better if I did!

Nice to meet you, Mystery! I'm a long time lurker, so I remember you posting. Yes, I struggle in the morning, I'm just a night owl, what can I say?

Thanks for the well-wishes for my DM. She is recovering from a broken hip, at best a slow process. (She's 93.)

Twins - Regarding the High Holidays, my church has a large sanctuary that seats 800 and a few years ago the largest Jewish synagogue in our county asked if they could use our church for all of the Jewish community in the county to have services together during the week. We said yes and they have been holding all their High Holidays at our church since. It is a wonderful experience for all of us every year as they take over our building and we get to interact with them during the week.

Nice to see so many posters this morning. Welcome back Mystery - you were missed. I've been wondering where Bittersweet has gone? She has not posted for a long time. Hope she is well and just busy.

Oh, that's right, this is cathyy's first Rosh Hashanna as a Jewish person, so that's very meaningful. Last year this time she was still in the midst of her year of study, completed in December.

I have slowed down. I have made a menu plan and groc. list. However, dh and I still haven't settled on a menu for the Thursday crew. We may have a large crew this week as dh is inviting a colleague and a friend from church. Plus, our gluten-free friend will be coming this week too. There is another friend we invited last week who couldn't make it. I can't remember if she had a standing or a one time conflict, so she may come this week too. . . . All these are in addition to our regular crew, minus the physics prof. who will be at Princeton for a few weeks, then CO, then traveling to Israel and Italy. We saw her at church yesterday and she told us we wouldn't see her again until after Tgiving. Anyhow, if everyone comes, we'll have 7 dinner guests + the 4 of us. I may need help cooking and prepping for the crew that day as I am planning to be at the church from 8:30 ~ 2:00 with moms group and then a meeting of a subset of leaders to put together the small groups. Then, dd16 has a Dr. appt. at 3:10. Short story made long - I will need to go back to the groc. store Wed. to prep for Thursday. Also, I don't yet know what I will need to bring to small group on Saturday.

Off to the groc. store - and the library to return an overdue book on tape.

Previous done, with the exception of lunch, which is in the microwave as I type. Discovered while tidying the bathroom (and noticing that I, myself, needed some tidying, too!) that dd has absconded with my comb. Saw her new battery toothbrush there -- I thought I had seen it in her luggage, and I thought she had pitched the old one. I'm hoping that she didn't pitch the old one & packed it rather than packed the new one, took it out to brush her teeth this morning, and never put it in. Realized, too, that she was so proud of finding an unopened bottle of shampoo to pack, when my plan was that this morning's washing & braiding would last her for the trip, as it takes 20 minutes or more to brush/comb all the tangles out of her hair following a wash. Well, maybe the friend who wants to braid her hair will help her out with that, too.

As for laundry, I finally had to bite the bullet and wash DH's shirts, the bane of my existence. He actually took it upon himself to do a load of wash this weekend, but could it be his shirts? Nooooo. I hate doing his shirts because most of them take the label "permanent press" very loosely -- I have to get them out of the washer promptly and get them out of the dryer and onto hangers while they're still damp. Even then, several still need a spritz of wrinkle releaser to really look presentable. He used to have a couple of 100% cotton shirts; thankfully, they've worn out, and I told him that if he ever gets 100% cotton again, I will cut them to shreds the second he brings them into the house! He had no idea that most of those weren't perma-press, and the ones that claimed to be weren't, either, really. There's also the issue of getting his collars clean. Every time I treat collars, I'm reminded of an old local show that ran a skit, back in the days of the W isk "ring-around-the-collar" commercials. The husband would get the "ring-around-the-collar" taunt at work, then come home and repeat it to his wife. After a couple of times of trying desperately -- and failing -- to get the rings out, she finally responded (to the same sing-song tune), "scrub your dirty ne-eck!" OK, enough of that rant!

Has Cathyy been posting lately, or was it just a "thinking of you" sort of shout-out, OKay? I do hope she's been posting. Speaking of Cathys, it's good to see CathyS/Cabby posting again!

Thanks for the welcome back, sher! It's such a warm & fuzzy feeling to know I've been missed.

Just realized I'm going to have to re-rinse those shirts after the carpool run -- the wash should be through before it's time to go, but I don't dare put them in the dryer b/c they'd be a wrinkled mess by the time I get home. Drat!

Lunch eaten. Need to clean it up -- along with breakfast, which I never did -- though first, I'll need to unload that dishwasher. Then I'll figure out dinner. Sadly, today should have been a crockpot day, with two hockey practices (even though dd will not be at hers due to the field trip, DH will need to be there b/c he's an assistant coach, and I should be there b/c it's the first official practice this season, and I'm the team manager), but I never got a crock started this morning. I wonder if there's something quick I could cook and keep warm in the crock? Maybe tuna noodle -- or pasta with the sauce stirred in. Hmm.

Doubt I'll be back till after the pickup run.

Cooler weather, in the 70's.

I walked and exercised this morning. Am working on laundry, the focus of the day.

I'm feeling a bit better today, relief right now from the leg pain. Not pushing myself to hard though.

Just had to share a funny that my friend, who is cleaning out her clothes closet, shared online this morning:

"I took a carload of clothes to the Cancer Society's thrift store and the guy helping me to unload the goods asked if I was moving to a nudist colony! ;o)"

Now that's decluttering!
