Conga Friday

Post by Harriet »

Did you know doing the Conga is good for the brain? :idea: Especially the way we do it? :) Makes sense to me.

The New England Journal of Medicine published results of test of 11 physical activities and dancing was the best for the brain - cool. But how do you know the dancing you are doing is good for those brain cells? Exercise Scientist Nicole Peritore gives 2 criteria to look for:

1) A variety of movements that use lots of muscle groups in the body. (Hey! we've got that!)

2) The need to memorize your basics and be able to repeat them. (We are all OVER that one!)

"In order to complete a dance, one has to memorize the steps, even if it is just the basics. This memorization is important to keep the brain active and alert as well as the mental sharpness that is necessary for knowing and being able to perform all of the different step combinations."

All this and a spiffy house. Excellent.

Not sure how 'spiffy' our house will get today, but have started my writings for PODA. Spent a good deal of the night awake with a lot of drainage and a sore throat. Looked for the 1 remaining A irborne this morning to no avail -maybe I used it already. I've spent the morning so far sipping hot coffee and putting a hot bag on the top of my chest/throat. Think I'm beginning to feel a little better. I was going to go get my flu shot today too. Re-thinking that -at least for today. Maybe tomorrow.

Have a sinkful of dishes awaiting me. Was going to do them last night but it got too late. I'm heating water for that and so I can s2s shortly. I may just veg for a lot of the day.

I've managed to pull out several things from the bedroom to the living room that need to be packed & listed. Think that will be my focus/priority for today. Also need to go to W M for a few needs and things to make my dish for Virginia's Memorial service tomorrow. Know dh will be busy helping get that all set up and torn down. He figures that from here on in his days will be quite full.

Guess I have to turn on the heat for a bit. I'm getting chilled and I certainly don't need that right now. Only got down to about 43 last night, but tonight is supposed to be a hard freeze. At least maybe some of the allergens will go with that!
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Good Morning!

I'm lovin' the thought of dancing through the day. Just thinking about it makes my energy level rise. (having a fresh cup of coffee helps too) :lol:

I left my purse int he car trunk so I'm feeling a little out of it without my PODA paper nearby. It would probably take me less time to run outside and retrieve it than to sit here thinking and typing about it. :roll: BRB

It is d-a-r-k outside. The horizon glows in the direction of town, but otherwise the sky is completely dark. Must be a heavy cloud cover to shut out all the stars and moon.

OMM -
** Pumpkin patch. Multiple reasons - I want pumpkins for decoration and LO will enjoy harvesting them.
** Add eternal speakers to LO homework PC. the built in speaker is not clear and he is learning sound of letters so having them spoke clearly is important. I'm still shaking my head at a 4 year old having homework.....
** buy Christmas stamps - the one I want was released for sale yesterday.

I'm running behind my hourly schedule so need to pick up the pace.

We are on the road again... off to another bluegrass festival :D and then heading on to Oxford, MS... for another session of humiliation as we witness the slow downfall of what passes for football @ our school. :evil:

I told my students I was just going to quit doing Fridays, LOL.

DH did not sleep well last night and we are both a little irritable this morning. Y'all say a prayer for us.

Have a great day of conga-ing! See y'all tomorrow night!
Tomorrow is another day.

LOL, Lucylee about the football. I completely understand! At least Oxford s/b a fun place!

At work this morning - got here a little early because I didn't walk the ddogs. Rain was coming down and they didn't seem anxious to walk. I was sorry to shut Macs in the house this morning, tho because he was out on our covered patio on the couch there - he used to enjoy it when it was on our screened porch and I could let him come and go.

I am getting there here at work....have two returns nearly completed for review and another that has been reviewed and needs minor changes. And need to look at our own return and try to get it finalized, and just realized I didn't bring the paper file from home. :o I have a lot of tax records stored electronically in Evernote, but not all.

~~~waving Hi to all~~~~
Why haven't I done this before???? This morning I sat down in front of PC with LO and we went shopping. We found and ordered new shoes for him. This is the first time I have ordered shoes online. I selected the brand (stride rite) and size then let LO pick which color/style he wanted. Soooo simple! Took less than 10 minutes instead of the 60+ mile drive and couple hours in the mall trying to find a store that has his size and something suitable. I loooove shopping online!
Good morning, villagers ~
Love your opening, Harriet! 8-)
Twins'Mom ~ Thanks for the reminder of taxes. I need to finish the state taxes this weekend to mail Monday. The auto extension doesn't run out until the 30th but I might as well deal with the file. I don't even remember why I set them aside in April. :|
Meeting last night at the library went well. My first time presenting the Treasurer's reports, and they liked the way I reorganized the monthly financial info. However, it's obvious now that this library group is going to eat up a LOT more time than expected.
Anywayz ... the next event for the library is a quilt show, because 2 quilters in town passed away this year and their families donated several boxes of quilting books that we are to sell. One of the families also donated several boxes of cotton print fabrics, which all needs to be measured and priced. I'll be going this afternoon and 3 times next week to sort & organize for that event on the 20th.
I think I'll put potatoes & ham au gratin in the crock pot this morning. If other people show up at the library this afternoon to work, I'll want to stay longer. Love the slow cooker for days when I don't know what time either of us will be home for supper.
The weather man is saying 100% chance of rain tomorrow.
My sewing machine, tools, and fabric are still out in the car from the weekend away. Must bring it all into the house today so I can sew this weekend.
I should throw some clothes in the washer, too. Dishes have been soaking several minutes. Time to move, BBL.
