The New England Journal of Medicine published results of test of 11 physical activities and dancing was the best for the brain - cool. But how do you know the dancing you are doing is good for those brain cells? Exercise Scientist Nicole Peritore gives 2 criteria to look for:
1) A variety of movements that use lots of muscle groups in the body. (Hey! we've got that!)
2) The need to memorize your basics and be able to repeat them. (We are all OVER that one!)
"In order to complete a dance, one has to memorize the steps, even if it is just the basics. This memorization is important to keep the brain active and alert as well as the mental sharpness that is necessary for knowing and being able to perform all of the different step combinations."
All this and a spiffy house. Excellent.
