Thoughtful Thursday

Dgd16 does not have gall stones but they want to do another test to make sure the gall bladder is functioning and it is scheduled for Nov. 6. So dgd16 is upset that she doesn't have gall stones and need surgery. Dd2 is not very happy with her right now.

I accomplished nothing while dh was gone. So now I am playing catch up.

Oh, OKay, I sure hope LO's ears are alright or you find out what's wrong. Sigh..another thing to manage on your overly-full plate.

Dee, I'm back here with DGD, who plays with paper and highlighters while I'm in the computer...and she just saw your avatar and hollered NEMO! Kids are so cute.

My thoughtful thing today was DGD care. My constant prayer while she is here is "Lord make me kind". I have to remember she is at my complete control..like when she asks for the thousandths time to fill her cup and I'm too weary to get up and do it, I must be kind and get it done. This morning she woke up in a puddle so bath and shampoo were first on the PODA. Then I had a shower while she watched cartoons nearby. Dog has been out twice and fed.

LOL twirling. When DGD finally goes home I'm going to sleep for a week!

Lilac, I wanted to tell you, several years ago DD1 took us to one of those ceramics places in her big city. They didn't have anything to eat or drink there. DH and I did a big square almost flat plate, painting it blue front and back and made a lighthouse in the middle of the front on a little island. We used a seashell stamp on the back and put our initials. They glazed it and DD picked it up. We have it in our glassed- front cabinet. We're not artists but it's cute and we have lots of memories. (I'M glad DGD doesn't have gallstones. She doesn't know how lucky she is.)

Going to be posting a little at a time -- my feet are killing me (I've just been sitting down and s l o w l y having a mocha and toast after coming back from the library), and I'm finally making myself go at the dailies by planning to sit between each for as long as I've worked on them. Don't know how much I'll get done today, but the house has really been shaping up this week, so maybe I'll get done more than I might have hoped, given that things shouldn't take so long. (For example, the dining table needs just a quick tidy, not an excavation.)

Bless you, Dee, for sending the pix -- did you send them snail mail? Because if not, I did not get them. If that's the case, you probably have my old e-mail address -- replace the "core.com" with "att.net," and you will be great. Very thoughtful, indeed.

Timer has gone -- I will now haul myself upstairs to tidy the bathroom and take some form of analgesic while I am there. More CUOP later.

VENT: Grrr...trying once again to disconnect my internet for the winter with TW! Called first at 11:08 -my "information didn't agree" (it did yesterday ) Yesterday 1st gal couldn't get the computer to accept the disconnect so went to another rep -she was getting only 1/2 of what I said so decided to call back. Did that a little while ago and am now on hold (forever) waiting for a 2nd rep to answer. Isn't our time worth something? End of Vent for now.

Got a filing bin set up to receive some filing I have to do. Dishes are put away and I'm s2s.

Sunny out this morning and fairly comfortable out there. So glad for dh. The more he can get done in the good weather the happier I am (for him). At least he doesn't have to do the rec hall this year -that was done by the company putting in new sprinklers yesterday. Nice! Pretty sure there'll be a 'mass exodus' on Monday and Tuesday of most of any (full-time) campers who are left. There are some who just come on weekends but think they're mostly closed up. Inevitably there'll be one who shows up on November 1st (or even Oct 31st) and complains that the water is shut off -and that one will probably be someone who's hardly been here all year. (It's Murphy's law!)

Hope TW answers before too long. I have to get my lunch in and be at mechanic's by 1:00 for tires. Then I'll go to the next town north to W mart and get my photos and do just a bit of shopping. Then back to town next to us for gas and get
mail.

Edit: "James" came on at 11:38 and we had it done in less than 5 minutes this time. Interesting though that he told me it would be $5/month for 'seasonal hold' and the girl yesterday said it would be $9.95/month. So believe me I will be checking!

Gave up on my 3rd DPC for now. Will try again later this afternoon. (Dr's appointment -was on hold for over 10 minutes there and I need to get going for my other errands.) Did make an appointment next Tuesday for a trim/body perm. And that call to TW. So, 2 out of 3 isn't too bad. Will do the appointment one later when I have time to be on hold.

Having a chicken finger & rest of my sweet potato fries from last night. Can I say I love those SPFs?

I did have your old email, Mystery. I'll go in and resend it a little later. Strange because usually I get an "undeliverable" message back. Oh, it might be because I was on the email I use for SHE's and I haven't been back there.

Bathroom was so tidy already that I felt compelled to damp-mop it, so I actually took longer than usual. Also hadn't realized that I hadn't done lights/blinds upstairs. I do think this doing/sitting combo will work for me. If I'm on my feet too long, I'm sore, but if I sit too long, I get stiff.

Glad to hear things are looking good for LO, OKay -- I hope the 2d ENT opinion clears things up.

Timer just went off again (I spent some of my sitting time figuring out dinner, i.e. checking our checking balance (much larger than I expected for the day before payday, so lump-sum school and hockey payments must have been contributing to the earlier tightness) to see if I can order pizza -- I could order a couple dozen, if I had to, so we're OK!), so next up is starting a load of wash (darks).

Hello from Dartmouth!

My travel went smoothly except for lack of internet.

Got to the airport, through security, 50 minutes after leaving home (so with 20 minutes to spare.)

Couldn't connect to the internet there, either the airport wifi or my personal hotspot (which I bought for this trip.) Nor would my phone connect. They showed they were connected but I couldn't go anywhere.

Got to Halifax airport and my phone wouldn't connect (so didn't try my computer.)

Got to the hotel and it was the same as at Ottawa airport. So I phoned ds. Figured it was lunch there but I woke him up (he worked 16 hours yesterday was home for 5 and then back into work so they sent him home to sleep.) He couldn't offer any tips aside from resetting the computer and that did it although I'm not exactly sure what I'm connected to right now - since it isn't the hotel wifi. While on the phone with ds, my phone finally connected as well.

I've emailed dh to let him know I'm safe (he'll get that email in 4 hours since he's over Iceland now) and my sister as well.

We don't have a harbour view room (there were none left that were non-smoking) and ended up on the second floor (so have people smoking outside the hotel.) The room stinks of bleach too so I have the doors open to air it. I will say I'm less pleased with the place this time except my rate is great.

Weather is nice (cool but sunny.)

I need to eat, my tummy is grumbling but I need to sleep too. Thankfully, there's a Subway around the corner so I'll go there and then come back to eat it here.

Wash is in -- very full load, and I did not get all the darks in; could have done them yesterday, but I chose reds/pinks/purples instead (with two young girls, we have quite a few of those!)

KWYM about children born in the wrong month, Harriet -- it just bit DD in that she ended up getting cut from the girls' hockey team she was looking forward to playing on. Coaches suggested we take what we would have spent on fees and spend it at a local hockey school -- they said what DD really needed was one more year at the next level down, as DD was more comparable to those girls -- of course she is! Were she two weeks younger, she'd be at that level! Might you be reading "Outliers"? (I know the book was mentioned the other day, but I've forgotten by whom.) There's a whole chapter in there, or nearly so, about how most NHLers are born between January and March b/c USA Hockey and its Canadian counterpart base divisions on your age as of December 31. We had a 5'8" Squirt (10u) last year -- her parents are/were both over 6' tall, and she had just made the cutoff to be "10" -- her birthday is January 1, so by the latter half of the season, she had turned 11 and had shot up!

Seconding Dee's comment re OKay's thoughfulness -- it seems so much of your life is about caring for/about others that it has become second nature to you; you don't have to think about being thoughtful!

Back from moms group, which I think went well. It was a bit of a hard passage; I think I engaged the more mature ones better than the less mature, but much can be gained from listening to conversations too.

I'm trying not to think about it anymore. I'm currently eating lunch and need to get the crockpot going in a minute.

It is unclear if dh will join me at P/T conferences this evening. He has a lot on his plate - as always. I think there are only 2 teachers I feel led to talk to.

I like your philosophy re: kids' confidence, intelligence, and determination, OK. It reminds me how one of the first things taught in some sports is how to fall. I think that's true in skiing/snowboarding? I think rock/ice climbing too, though dh was into that - not me.

Oh, I've heard of that book, Mystery. And I've heard of that practice, Harriet. Fortunately, none of my kids are super-sporty. And none have contentious birthdates, except maybe for dd17 who with a fall bday could be a Sr. here in MI but could not go to K in TX the year before we moved here. So, she was going on 6 when she started K; her K teacher would have been OK moving her up a grade, we talked to her about it, and dh wanted to do that. However, I did not (I skipped a grade myself and am not that keen on it - I know it is good for some people; I just felt I could have used another year of maturity. I also have a summer bday so was already on the younger side.) I think it has been a good thing for her; it is very good to have 2 school years between her and ds. Also, she was SO very tiny in K, that size was a real consideration. She's still fairly small, 5' 1.5" and weighs maybe 104#. She has the perfect build for a gymnast, but alas, she gave that up years ago. . . .

There is some sunshine! I'm going to start the crockpot with pork tenderloin and root beer and then relax for a bit. Maybe I'll work on the yard this afternoon! I am planning to jog with dh, whenever he goes. It will be short for both of us, which means different things for both of us.

Harmony - You are doing wonderful with DGD1 and juggling everything else to keep it from crashing. Everything about little ones take immense amount of time and effort served up with patience and kindness. You deserve a huge POTB!

Showers - Seeing Harmony have to coordinate taking a shower when DGD1 was occupied reminded me of the times when a shower was a treat. I used to put LO in the shower with me when I needed to be in it for more than 2 minutes (washing hair).

Just emailed DSon/DDIL and gave them our weekend schedule adjustments. It syncs with their activities so all is well.
