Working Wednesday

All the dalas are painted. The 3 for the kids turned out great. I had one to practice on and I will be sanding off the paint to redo it later. I am just waiting for one color to dry so I can add the gold rosettes and I will be done. I'm not sure if I am going to spray a shiny coat of finish on them or not. Will try it on the practice one first as I don't know how the finish reacts with the paints.

Next up is to wrap and pack them for shipment. Going Priority Mail via USPS. We will ship them out tomorrow morning so the paint has plenty of time to dry.

I should start some baking to give as gifts here. But, ala Scarlett, will think about that tomorrow.

I did sort of a "goofy" thing. I was so proud that I was writing the issues deadlines dates in my day runner and on my office calendar. I hung the calendar back up, put my day runner away, then realized how I forgot appt.'s for 2013 and birth dates. I'll put birth dates on the dining room/great room calendar, which is our main one and on my bathroom calendar, which I'll see first thing in the morning. I'll add to my day runner later, too. I think waiting until after Christmas or even New Year's Day is okay.

Dove, It sounds pretty there. I'm glad you have sunshine. You're lucky.

OKay, I've never heard of the gin-raisin treatment before. Very interesting though.

Kathryn, I agree it's clever to buy basic black in a dress, too. It matches all colors.

Helia, You'll be having a fun day with the kids there.

Bookie, do the snow plowers pile up tons of snow on your property? I have a BFF who has that happen at their place. So her DH rigged up his own snow plow and he goes out and plows what the plows left on their place.

MT, It sounded like you've enjoyed your day of painting.

Scattered, Congratulations and have a good 1st day on the job too!

The chickens seem fine today but there is a brisk wind blowing and it's chilly I discovered the water even froze inside the coop! I left them in an extra hour they were slow to come out when I did open the coop door. They were having fun digging for worms then the new hens learned about the dryer vent! Who needs a heat lamp with that option today anyway! LOL! It's 35* feels feels like 36* according to T.W.C. website and that seems sub zero compared to what we've been having here!

I have one more load of laundry to put in the washer, first one is folded and put away most of it. Trying to get the mojo up to clean out a squash and cook it as having the oven on would be nice!

School is done for the year!

I noticed the classroom doors were shut/locked today and asked LO teacher about the change. She said the decision was made on Monday to keep all classroom doors locked at all times. I'm not sure this is any safer than having the door unlocked. LO is the closest student to the door and he kept getting up from his chair to open the door when someone knocked. IMHO.....being screened by a 4 year old for admittance to the room isn't much security. The teacher showed how she has paper ready to put over the window in the door and where the students would huddle together in a corner. I remember having air raid drills when i was in school where we would get under our desk in case of a nuclear attack. Both of the preparations seem more about doing SOMETHING even if it wouldn't be effective.

Doing well today, once I started going. I'm trying to limit my time on this machine.

a.m. routine isn't quite done; I just need to make the bed and update laundry for that to be done.

x looked online at drills and impact drivers w/ dh who finally concluded that we would postpone this gift until his bday next month; he doesn't have the time to browse and I don't have the know-how to browse. I don't know exactly the specs he is looking for, but he hasn't found exactly what he wants yet

x picked up dd17 and took her to appt. which was blessedly brief. Dropped her off at school since she really didn't want to miss her last hour class, which is her art independent study.
x unloaded groceries; I think I bought for our Sinterklaas celebration on Saturday, but I may have forgotten something. That is OK; I need to go back Saturday anyway to get a turkey.

Cmas dinner: Our family wants a traditional turkey dinner b/c we didn't get that at Thanksgiving.

*sshhh* It's a secret, but I picked dh for shoe gifts this year. While at the groc. store, I got dh his next shoe gift; I already have another for tomorrow night, and then I'll get a bigger ($10) gift for Friday night. Since we only have 4 nights instead of 5, we decided to double the $ limit on the last night.

Off to pick up the girls. Then, I'll finish a.m. routine and spend some time on laundry.

Back from errands.

If I had not been paying attention to storm forecasts on radio, I would not know we were due for any bad weather. It's still really nice out there right now, meaning warm enough to be out without a hat, full cloud cover but no precipitation yet, roads totally dry. I had to look at the tv station website when I got home to confirm that I had heard right earlier. They are now saying DOT advises no travel from 8 PM tonight through noon tomorrow because of high winds blowing the snow, so I hope DH is not planning to drive to work in the morning.

The phone number I found for problem neighbor is out of service. I will have to try to catch him in the act tomorrow, I guess.

The problem is not with the city plows. Of course they leave a ridge across everyone's driveways, there's no way to avoid that. That isn't a big deal to shovel out.

The problem is either the neighbor who lives at the other end of the block, or maybe he hires a company to clear his snow. He has a commercial building (which appears empty) so the whole front of his property is paved driveway/parking spaces, and the neighbor between us has gravel driveway/parking spaces between his house and the street. Then there's our gravel driveway in front of our garage, then our yard.

What happens is that whoever is driving the pickup truck with plow blade, starts at the far corner of the block and clears all of their snow by pushing it across over into our yard. It makes a big huge pile at the end of my driveway, so I can't see around it to see what traffic is coming when I'm trying to leave. It also gets packed into an iceberg and messes with the ditch and storm drain, so instead of melting into the drain, it makes a big lake in the street. Then the city blames us.

There is a city ordinance against moving snow to someone else's property. I could make formal complaints at City Hall and they would levy fines against the guy. I've been trying to be a decent neighbor and not have to go that route. It's been going on too many years, though, in spite of several friendly requests that he "remind his guys" not to do it. If I can't catch him in the act or figure out some other way to get a valid phone number to talk to him, I'll have to go through City Hall.

Oh well, at this point that is tomorrow's problem. Tonight I'm still worried about this blizzard coming. I hope DH doesn't have to work late so he can be home an hour before it hits. I hope the high winds do not knock down power lines. We can cope with no power and have done it many times, but I'd rather be snowbound with a working furnace.

hello to all.
Had a migraine all night and day so I slept 1/2 the day away. Still very tired.
But what a night we (dd younger and I) had with d mil last night. so much fun. we sat 5 rows away from orchestra in the Soprano section as my dmil sings at that level. It was magical. Stanley sperber was the conductor, Tamara Matthews soprano, Meredith arwady alto (lovely) Nicholas phan the tenor, mark Doss the bass baritone and all I can say is my dmil was thrilled and I was awestruck. The voices were amazing especially the men. I can't sing but it was thrilling to see my dmil sing.
