Celebrating Monday!

I'm trying to remember why I shop at WM. It is SUPER crowded and the check out lines are long. On the other hand, our little grocery store was fully stocked and the check out waiting was under 1 minute. The difference in prices is within pennies - both higher & lower. Hum......I think I am going to switch away from over crowded superstores unless absolutely necessary.

Mince meat pie is done and smells marvelous. Sweet potatoes are in the oven baking. Then will be skinned, whipped with OJ, dotted with butter and put in fridge until time to warm them up tomorrow.

We are having rain here - had a huge rainbow over the mountains. Think it will be icy to go up the mountain tonight. Think we will just stay home.

Our fire dept is filling in for the fire dept so hurt today. Had figured ds-A was going but understand that Chiefs have to remain in their district. We're at church for candlelight service now.

DH is gearing up to shut MPB down tonight for the next 3-6 days. They are predicting us to receive ice following by up to a foot of snow. If the forecast are right, it won't be above freezing until Friday but even is iffy. We may be shut down until Sunday. It takes hours to shutdown and start back up so it isn't worth opening up for just a couple hours. YEAH for receiving a Christmas Break!

Went to the Christmas eve service and it was packed a full house every chair full. @ the Christmas eve service found the answer to one of the q. here they had plastic sauce cups, like you get at a cafe' for "to go" to hold dressing etc. on the candles for catching the wax.

Picked up a mince pie on the way home it was on sale.
Glad I had soup ready for when we got home.

As I posted from church earlier, several from our fire dept up home are filling in at the fire hall of the fallen fire fighters. They got called back to the scene tonight for rekindles -not surprising with 7 houses being destroyed. DSGD posted on FB tonight and she is terribly broken-hearted. She thought of the younger fireman killed as a brother, but I'm not entirely sure it wasn't more.

Went for the candlelight service at church. So glad we were able to do that. Then we went to dbil/dsil's for a few hours. It was time to leave when gd14 about set the place on fire! Literally. She caught a paper towel on fire in a candle and then tried to put it out on the tablecloth with other paper. Of course her Mom and I were both yelling. And then the expletives came out of her mouth. Words I certainly can't repeat. Of course dsisil (when she heard what had happened -she was out on the porch- just laughed. She wasn't there to see what nearly came to be. GD informed us she "Knew what she was doing".

Just finished putting things under the tree and now time for bed. Tomorrow has to be a better day!

Long day is now over.

Tomorrow will be equally long but the dinner is at least cooked.

The styrofoam cups didn't work. Turns out all cups are not created equal. These caught fire. The ones I had used to test the idea, didn't. So it was an experience. No-one was burned that I know of. Needless to say, I'm annoyed.

I'm also annoyed that the choir music organizer at the other church, who had faithfully loaded everyone's choir folders, took all the copies of the blessing out yesterday. She wasn't going to be in church tonight, so efficiently put away all the music she didn't need. So we couldn't do that sung blessing. We ended up using the musical meditation we had originally planned at the beginning of the service but everyone but dh and I forgot that we had changed the words. So that was a mess. The anthem went well, though. I had a coughing fit during passing of the light (all the smoke.)

We were supposed to have one slab cake and my cake for after the early service. The person brought two slab cakes, making 1.5 slab cakes leftover. Since the freezer wouldn't fit the full cake, I found someone to take it. I took the half one and will take it with me for tomorrow at the community dinner.

All the punch I'll need for the 26th is made up (leftover from tonight.)

Dh and I spent 2 hours cleaning up the kitchen (after 1 hour of cleaning up the church.) We watched The Bishop's Wife to help the time pass while we worked. There's still odds and sods to do. The silver is unlikely to get polished unless there is a miracle tomorrow.

I still have some wrapping to do but just dh's - the three presents for the kids are wrapped now. That's one thing I don't miss, the panic of having to wrap tons and tons of presents.

So now I'm off to bed. Hopefully, my voice will recover by tomorrow. There were lots of notes I couldn't hit today.

I think my favourite part of the night was helping the kids ring the bell. It rang for ages since there were about 30 kids and I gave each child 3 pulls. It is Christmas Eve, I hope the neighbours liked it!

Dee, I don't think your dsisil would have been laughing had gd caused a fire that could not be easily contained. It's hard to believe that she thinks the child can do no wrong. I bet if she had to live with her for a few days, that she would be singing a different tune.
