The impromptu chicken/noodles turned out great. I saw a package of country gravy mix and added it as thickener rather than the instant potatoes. YUMMY! LO ate 2 helpings.

Excellent gift ideas! However they won't fit for these BDay gift receivers. I didn't give enough information to make it a fair guess for you. Two of the BDay parties are for LO cousins that are turning 2 year old. They would probably try to eat the quarters and all they want to do is stay near their Mommas. They aren't in the "lets go have an adventure" stage yet. The 3rd birthday gift is for a boy that started out being LO best friend at school. However....this may sound mean....but I don't want LO to spend more time with him than necessary (no outings together as a gift). This friend is a trouble maker and is constantly in trouble at school....even to the point that they were considering expelling him. His mother is a sweet young lady but considers his behavior "just being a boy" and is okay with it. I am letting LO go to his party because everyone in the class is invited and I suspect LO will feel left when his classmate discuss the party if he doesn't attend.

Twins! Your brilliant! Thank you for the N ideas

Nightlight? When you are 4, they can be fun things, right? Maybe not - electric plug I guess. Needlenose Pliers? HRH says send him with nunchucks, it'll be fine. Dd says too bad you can't dig up a nightcrawler this time of year.

Warm temps here. Went out wearing just long sleeves and was fine. Concerning, though, for the trees, etc. I was also surprised to feel a twinge of odd disappointment, because it was like I could feel the grass and brush deciding to start growing, and I want that to wait!

The lockdown today, dd heard, may have been more strictly enforced because the anonymous call came at a time not long after the morning shooting in which a student was hurt in California. That may have meant it came at a time of higher alert in the administrator's and law enforcement's eyes, considering copycat crimes. The largest news station was still on the scene when I picked dd up.

Wait - something NERF

Oh WOW! What inventive thinkers! I think Harriet's DD idea would be a big win with the little boys. 4-6 year old boys would consider Night crawlers the ultimate show-N-tell!
And yes, nerf balls would be a close 2nd. >>>picturing an assortment of nerf balls flying through the classroom tomorrow.....teachers are greatly underpaid!<<<<<

Thank you for all the suggestions!

VDFriend stopped by to ask if I would be her emergency contact for the 1 & 3 year old grandchildren they are raising. She doesn't have anyone to pick them up from daycare if something happens. I agreed to do it.

Anytime a thought enters my mind that I'm tired.... that I have it rough......I just stop and think about her raising 2 little ones plus the 8 year old. She is older than me by 5 years and she is not in good health. It is pure love for those grandkids that keeps her going hour after hour....day after day....

sounds like the child has an issue that the staff at the preschool have probably spoke to the mom before but she may be in denial. last year a boy at the preschool had huge issues and turned out to have autism. Children in the preschool stayed away from him. This boy went out of his way to create havoc which in turned made it difficult for the children to like him which increased his behavior. At nap time the staff had to use heavier blanket to calm his body. Many times parents pretend there isn't an issue when it comes to self control issues and they use "it's a boy thing" as a way to protect themselves that there is an issue with their child at all. This parent at the preschool was horribly angry after repeated meetings over the year. He had been kicked out of other preschools. Eventually the mother allowed testing by an outside source and the child was found to many issues and is in a special school now to help with his control issues and help teach him how to work with his way of seeing the world.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I'm not motivated to do anything so will head to bed in a few minutes.

Thought I had recorded Big Bang Theory but when I press Record on my media centre computer it only saves what has been recorded for the previous 30 minutes so going to watch it now, 20 minutes after the show ended, turned up only the last 10 minutes of the show. I'm so frustrated I could cry. I'll get to watch it in a few days (anywhere from 3 - 5 days later it shows up on the website) but I set aside time to do it tonight.

Good night all!

Blessed - you could very well be right.

I recently read an opinion article about the selfie trend with this generation. This writer said "there is a disturbing trend that we parents have been fostering for years, we're convincing our kids they're more special, more important and more accomplished than they really are."

I wonder if that is part of it where this young mans attitude comes from. We want our children to grow up with confidence, but selfie trend seems to be over-the-top. It seems to be more of an entitlement attitude.

I've washed LO's hair, given him a bath, PJ's on and played a game with him. It's bed time now.

Sweet Dreams

I am so impressed with the things you guys do in one day. I'm thankful to have the motivation this site provides.

OKay, just think, if you forget to take LO's show and tell, you can say he brought...NOTHING!

I didn't accomplish a lot noteworthy today. I spent a couple hours on the computer this morning researching something that I'd been wondering about. I tidied up my desk and the board above it (I have one of those fabric ones with the crisscross ribbons). And it is pleasant to look at now.

Went shopping because I had a 20% coupon for everything in the store including sale prices...but I found everything very highly priced and not worth it. I went to another store where I still had some money on gift cards and I found a nice gift for DD to send in a couple weeks.

Helped DH load up his truck and I cooked dinner and cleaned up the kitchen. Dinner was good, tonight it wasn't leftovers.

I printed out a monthly calendar as I couldn't find a cheap one in the store. I need one at my desk to keep track of stuff.

Going to work on one more form I need (blank). I'll use this one for the whole year, but I fill it in by hand.

I think I've walked the DDog a zillion times today. She gets antsy every evening and wants in and out. All day long she is calm and naps. Tonight she snuffled under a landscape rock and ate something (bug?). Yuck!

Oh, LOL Harmony @ "NOTHING!" for show 'n tell. :) That hit my funny bone just right.

I haven't seen the term "selfie generation" yet, but I get it totally, OK. The young moms in our church moms group are struggling to raise their children in a healthy way, and there is pressure out there for them to hold the priorities you mentioned, especially accomplishments; I think it can be almost like child worship. Or even a competition between moms regarding their kids if one has that bent and is not thoughtful.

I'm going to bed; I am tired. K and R showed up for dinner. It was really yummy, but it wasn't ready until 7:30. The recipes were a bit ambitious for the amount of time I had. The squash was a new recipe but very yummy - melt butter in a pan, let it get brown and nutty-flavored, put in some fresh thyme and let it sautee a little. Then put in butternut squash cut in 1/2" cubes. (Cutting it took a LONG time.) Add salt and pepper, let it simmer for about 10 minutes. The bread turned out OK in the oven. Dd17 said that the breadmaker was on the floor in pieces when she got home from school; either the cat knocked it down or I started it too close to the edge of the counter and it fell off when it vibrated during the mixing cycle.

Dd14 placed at the meet tonight, so she was very happy - 6th place in her level for the meet vs. one of the high schools. (They're done separately.) There probably were no more than 12 girls in her level at that competition, but it was encouraging! She didn't place at all at the last meet. --I hope that is not a "selfie generation" thing to share; she is not an uber-performer in this sport, but she enjoys it and is learning and improving.

Dmom has mentioned the phenomenon of "Child Worship," also -- that today there is a segment of parents who will do anything and everything to assure their children's happiness, even when it is a disservice to the child. I know I am beyond obsessed w/ds... but I was always conscious of the fact that he was an only child, an only granchild for 6 years, (and still the only grandchild on my parents' side) -- and I felt it was very important that he realize that everyone's world would not revolve around HIM. He is not perfect, but he has certainly grown into a young man I can be proud of.
And I am soooo very very thankful for him.

Thankful Thursday --
My wonderful family, especially ds, dh, dmom -- who generally are able to offer a voice of reason for me when I start spinning out of control...
and my extended family, especially my very, very daunts & cousins -- who, although I don't want to travel 12-hours one way with them, are some of the kindest, funniest, most generous, and most wonderful ladies I have ever met...
and of course, dgs... who has certainly brought a joy I could not have imagined into our lives...
and you ladies! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!!!
Tomorrow is another day.
