Quick post before running to work. Well not actually running.

Cold start this morning but no more precipitation for now. Sun is shining.

Did a load of laundry for dbrother, made breakfast and lunch, cleaned up the kitchen.

Off to Wally World.

Hello, villagers ~
I would not have wanted the responsibility of deciding whether or not to cancel school today. All around us, half of the schools were canceled and the other half on 2-hour delay. Our back yard looks like we got 5-6 inches of snow.

DH decided to go to work in The Big City at normal time after all, and texted when he got there that the roads were not great but not horrible. Looks like we got lucky with this storm. We're getting more snow throughout the day, but the plows are keeping up with it.

However, if I wanted to go anywhere, I'd have to do some major shoveling to get my car out of the garage. Weather forecast shows 10 degrees warmer on Sunday, so I'm having trouble building up any urge to go out to shovel today. The only places I need to go can easily be delayed until next week.

I'm looking forward to doing a long dejunking session in my office after lunch.

Productive day so far but only on housework not on the sermon!

Got up later (was to bed later) and stripped and remade the bed, then s2s. Had breakfast and then began work on the kitchen. First I made up the cream cheese frosting for the carrot cake, then did the dishes, then the weekly kitchen chores. I was getting floor ready to wash when ds arrived.

He had driven in from London (6 hours away) and was picking up an old phone of our in the hopes it will work since his phone will work with other people's SIM cards but not any that belong to him. My old phone didn't work here but we are on the edge of the network here so it might work in the city. We visited for an hour while I worked. He has a chance at a part-time job at the hospital and is allowed to keep his casual job as well, so would be able to go back to earning more money. And he has two paid shifts with the ski patrol this weekend so there's a bit of money to offset the cost of the training.

Main floor vinyl floors are washed and I swept the living room.

I've got a wicked headache again so just had some cereal for lunch. Also got my hair straightened (it air dried this morning and was scary.) The clock maker is coming in a few minutes to look at the Grandfather clock which stopped working properly before Christmas.

Dh is off hiking now without me because I don't want to hurt my knees. He's mad at me over something I said (rightly so, it just popped out.)

First draft of sermon is done.

Grandfather clock is on its way to the shop. It will be a big repair but worth it if it runs another 10 years or more. He'll also come and help us move the clock. And he took an old clock of mine that I didn't want to repair and gave me $100 off the bill. Oh, and he'll bring the part for the cuckoo clock when he comes back.

We leave to help set up the church supper in 20 minutes.

I didn't sleep well either, kept waking up to look at the clock, worried I wouldn't hear the alarm and I'd miss my seminar...I do sleep straight through the alarm sometimes.

But the seminar was interesting, though it didn't touch so much on the things our little group does. Four of us attended. Plus another 2 from the church in different capacities.

And in the OH NO NOT AGAIN category, the car overheated on the way home and I pulled into the nearest quickey oil change place just in time. Radiator was completely out of fluid so he refilled that and our reservoir. We don't know where it is leaking, all the hoses were changed last summer, new thermostat, new rad. cap, new water pump. We will have to keep checking on it regularly till we figure it out.

Work was piled up here when I got back, so I got that slew of paperwork done and emailed or faxed off. If I'd been free today I could have had lunch with 2 of the gals, but duty called and I came back here to work.

Back from errands and store run, hens were glad to get out. Five eggs in the coop so far any way. Two were green two were pullet one regular. Chicks are fine. I've sifted oyster shells for some grit for them. For some unknown reason I kept the other bag that grit was in so I can put the smaller stuff down stairs for the chicks I love it when some thing works out like that! I still need to take their food to the basement. Chicken door has blown shut but they can use the other one. It's trying to rain and we are under a wind advisory here winter storm all around us.

Dd will be late as they have to sign some papers they've sold another house, sil is turning down work happy that things have picked up for him.

I've unloaded the car and put food away. I still need to put one loaf of bread in the deep freeze down stairs yet.

Paying attn. to one room a day is working out pretty well for me as long as I go back and do hot spots in the one I did the day before.

A rainy, cold day today, so uncomfortable. Dstepson brought us a couple bales of straw and picked dd up for me, and that made her happy. He is driving a new (to him) pick-up truck and is delighted to report he traded other things for it, that had increased in value several times since he purchased, years back. I say anything that avoids payment books is just wonderful. He hung around here a while and we enjoyed lots of chat. Dd had brought home her math project and her big brother gave her a pep talk about art and math combining for a good career someday. I promised him I'd pay him back with a pep talk for dstepgd later!

Harmony, so glad you were close to the oil-change place when you realized it. I know this is getting frustrating.

I finally just had to nap today. 5 days of 5:30 alarms, not getting a full night's sleep several of those nights, and finally it does catch up.

Harmony We don't have an exact age on the clock. It wasn't a better known clock manufacturer so there aren't any good online records about it. It is well over 100 years old because we know it was bought at an estate auction on October 30, 1906 by my great-great-uncle Al in Halifax, N.S. The clock was inherited in the 1950s by my dad from Al's wife Min (who was actually my mom's great-aunt but Min and Dad were fond of each other as Dad had bought houses from her with her holding the mortgages and him paying her each month.)

When the clock case was moved to my house, it was in a trailer and it was a bright sunny day. In the sunshine, we could see pencil writing by Uncle Al on the inside of the case behind where the works would usually be. So I made a record of what it says on a card that is stored inside the base of the clock (more accessible.) The clock works were being repaired then (1992) and so it was a lucky discovery about the provenance of the clock because normally the case and works would have been moved together.

The works have functioned fairly well for the last 20 years so putting a lot more money into the clock now makes sense. As a child, the clock never ran but had a spot in my parent's living room. I think it had been damaged in the move to Ontario, plus one of the weights broke when I was little (the bottom of the clock case is missing a board where the weight fell through.)

When we renovated our house, there was a space in the newly created foyer for the clock and so my dad gave it to me, having it repaired at that point. Back then, it took 3 tries to get it running reliably which it did until it stopped the day my Dad died. It took me a month to coax it back to running properly and it was pretty good but it gets mad at me when I'm away and would be temperamental for weeks after I returned. Finally, the hands got too loose and it stopped keeping time last fall.

The clock maker says that most of his clients ascribe personalities to their grandfather clocks, so I'm not completely off my rocker!

I've fought a headache all day and am still losing that battle so may just go to bed. I'm trying to stay up until a load of laundry finishes so I can put it in the dryer.

The supper went well. I felt fine until I started eating and then the headache came back. Dh and I were there for 2.5 hours so I felt it was ok to head home before all the cleanup was done.

At least I've got a fair amount of stuff done today.

I wanted to post before it got too late. It was a high pain day today, so I rested, read "Prevention" magazine and outlined a short story, to Josh Groban's new music CD called "Echoes". It helped to relax me. He ALWAYS does!

This a.m. ta da:
1- Prayed
2- Wrote in my journal a LOT!
3- Had breakfast, etc..
4- Rinsed out the sink and dishes in the sink
5- Confirmed a March appt. because I'd written down 2 different dates; needed to check the true date!
6- I wrote a letter/card to someone in crisis currently. ♥
This afternoon ta da:
1- Walked 15 min.
2- Read "Prevention"
3- Wiped off the dust from my washer/dryer
4- Dusted my small office and regained order to it, too.
5- Did GR8 room hot spots.
In Later afternoon/evening:
1- Did hot spots on the eating bar
2- Dumped trash from every room
3- Did my weekly calendar reminders
4- Read a Nook Book
5- Did hot spots on the dining room table
6- Did hot spots in the (spare room) bunny room & put files in a file holder, tidied the desk
This Evening:
1- I planned my dinner out; we're eating separate meals tonight.
2- I tidied up the main office; mainly my messy pen pal space on my art table desk where the phone is
3- I tidied the utility room counter
4- I tidied the powder room & changed towels in there
5- I tidied the master bathroom
6- I tidied the main bathroom
7- I tidied the master bedroom
8- I got out clothes for tomorrow's housework of all flat surfaces
9- I set my dawn simulator
10- I got a box in for donation
11- I printed up an order form from this site, which is a pain relieving arthritis & fibromyalgia lotion:
