I neglected to mention this was a check that was obviously far from personal, drawn on the account of a company that has a definite area presence, with all the bells and whistles of a business check, including stamped amount. Of course, the tellers never suggested they were questioning the check, just my right to cash back within that check's transaction. Yes, Kathryn, I was given similar options - I could simply drive around the building to the ATM machine, and take twice as much money as I had requested. :roll: Well, of course I could - it's MY account! Sigh. I just found this incredible, and I wonder - would a husband cashing his wife's check be given the cash back, since he's so much more important on the account? (That may be an over-reaction, but I felt wronged! :x ) I think I was more bothered by the insult to my intelligence, expecting me to believe that this "always" happens, when I've been making deposits there all my adult life and it never has. Then, realizing that's what I was saying, they tried to make me believe the hundreds of past times were mistakes and this was the one, singular time when a teller finally was right. Ridiculous. It's one of the many new and confusing WF practices, and they don't want to admit it, are hoping they don't run into customers who know better. I did refuse to sign a check that wasn't made out to me. They did refuse to give me cash back. We parted frustrated.

A friend of dd14's father has gotten tickets to a preview showing of The Croods, and so dd now has a happy activity this weekend. They invited me, but I'm not sure I could leave HRH alone with my ddad that long. Dd has a club meeting at the library not long after the movie ends, so I would be gone quite a while. I'll probably let them have their sneak preview without me.

Aw, shoot, Kathryn, I was thinking they might be able to move homeward soon.

Emptynester - a bank that won't cash a check they themselves issued? Wow, something wrong there. You seem to be awash in creativity there.

Ivy, it's always smart to work out of your stash first, BUT so often that is made easier when you can add a few new supplies as you go.

lucylee, thinking of you as you hold down the fort for your mom and dad.

Elizabeth......Eliiizabeth..... how ya feelin', hon? Any better?

Hello, villagers ~
Unlike last week, when we had days of predictions and warnings about a serious snowstorm, yesterday what we were supposed to receive was at most 2 inches of light stuff, no problem. I ignored it all day since I didn't have to go anywhere.

Finally glanced out shortly before DH was due home from work, and was shocked to see several inches of snow piled on the deck and it was still falling. When DH got in, he said the roads were terrible.

It continued to snow off and on through the night and all day today.

It stopped mid-afternoon and I went out at 3 to begin shoveling. I don't know the official measurement (maybe 8 inches?), but it was really wet and heavy snow and took a long time to move. I have errands that must be run tomorrow, though, so it had to be done.

Duck Dynasty returns tonight so I have the DVR programmed to record. I have last night's NCIS to watch; I've heard it was a good one lots of focus on David McCallum.

First must get the trash ready for DH to take to the curb. I took the stuffed! full!! :mrgreen: recycle bin to the curb before supper.

We've got at least 5" of snow but it is still falling. Wet and heavy like the others have reported. And our power is now flickering. Was watching tv and the power went off for 5 - 10 seconds but the tv stayed on. I had bought a new UPS when the ISP told us that the power to our modem was faulty (it wasn't, nor was the modem faulty, the line to our neighbourhood was faulty and everyone's internet was going up and down but because we are at home in the daytime, we noticed it immediately as the service became less and less reliable.) Rather than return the UPS, we threw it on the TV system because we had all new equipment and wanted to protect it in a power failure. Tonight we discovered it works well!

I'm running the dishwasher now because each time the power fails, it stops and doesn't restart so I need to be aware and restart it in an appropriate place. Luckily, so far, it only cut out at the very beginning of the cycle - since there's no dial, I'd have to restart it on a shorter cycle.

I have a candle lit so when the power is off there is some light and I've unplugged my laptop from the wall so that the surges won't hurt it as the power comes back on.

Hope everyone's electricity holds on! Stay safe!

Yes, BookSaver, we are aware, and HRH has set to record. I'm dismayed to see it begins at 10 e.s.t. I had read that they would be given the 9 slot, so don't know what happened there. I think A and E's making a mistake not to plant them firmly in the middle of prime.

Our electricity is back!! woohoo! S and R hung out with us all day today, ate with us, and are now watching a video with the girls. They won't sleep here tonight after all b/c their power is back too. Our internet came back with the power, even though I had internet service for a while w/out power to the house via our generator.

Dh cleared the tree that was blocking the road north of our property. He did it with his handsaw since he couldn't get his chainsaw (gas) to start. :shock: He piled most of the limbs on the property across the street, which belongs to the elderly lady who calls me each spring to complain about our forsythia bush. I'm expecting her to call to complain about this soon. . . Dh said he'd move the limbs but couldn't do it today b/c he was leaving town. I may call her first to explain.

I spent today doing odds and ends - calling the Dr. to get dd17's prescription refilled, calling the power company a couple times, chatting with S and R, driving dd14 across town to her friend's house, getting our gas can refilled so we could refill our generator when it ran out. Finally, I got to work on my teaching mid-afternoon. Then I walked to wf w/ dh to get more hamburger for the tacos tonight so we'd have enough to share with S and R. We stopped by Walgreens too. . . Then we made dinner, cleaned up -- and now I'm finally working again. So, I haven't had much time today after all to finalize my teaching. Dh went over it with me for the 2nd time about 20 minutes ago right before he left for the airport.

Harriet, I deposit random checks for dh, and I can get cash back. A teller explained to me once that I couldn't get the cash from the check that had just been deposited, but I could take it out of the $$ that was in the account. I didn't care. Sometimes, I deposit the check into one account and take cash out of another. That is so odd that you can't get cash back.

so funny about the check.
Here it takes 3 working days before you can use the money from a deposited check.
Nope - it makes no sense.
Just begin.

Dh and I shoveled the walk and I did in front of the garage (the tractor plow will get the rest.) We have 3" on the driveway but we've already been plowed once today. There was 6" on the walkway where it was in the lee of the wind and 12 - 15" where there was drifting.

My pedometer only registered 950 steps for me today. It only works when upright and after I've taken between 5 & 10 steps so my working around in the storage room (bent over because of reduced headroom) didn't count and I guess I wasn't moving around as much as I thought, just taking a few steps and then stopping when working in the main basement room. I was basically only sitting when upstairs today. Shoveling added another 800 steps but that's mainly the walk from the garage around to the walkway and back. The roof shed snow onto the path in front of the house so I had to walk around by the road. Shoveling was take a step, stop, lift, toss, lift, toss, another step, repeat so I don't think I added any while actually shoveling.

I have to leave the house at 7:30 tomorrow (unless I get an email canceling the seminar.) So I'm off to bed now.

The dishwasher just had to be restarted once due to power outage so that wasn't too bad. Found out the quick wash option only takes 50 minutes (my econo wash takes 83.) Will remember that if I have relatively clean dishes to wash.

Looking in from home....another long day, I think I left office at 8:45. Got home and walked the ddogs who were so happy to get out and to have some company. DH came by earlier and fed them and let them into the back yard for awhile, but then he went out to friends' house for the friend's BD.

More work is coming in right now than I can get done, and a lot of it is due March 15. At least I felt pretty productive today - yesterday I wasn't very productive, was frustrated with several things, then client emailed wanting to meet today and I just was worn out and frazzled. Ended up locking myself out of the office last night, and I was the last person in the office - luckily the security guard was still downstairs and he could let me back in. :?

Waving to all, I miss you!

Heading to bed.

Whew! What a day.
School was fine... it was the AFTER hours that have been driving me crazy. Holding down the fort is right. I feel like... Andrew Jackson or somebody... it has really been a battle tonight.
First --
Besides the normal school day stuff, I had to
-- call dmom's accountant
-- make haircut appts for dh & myself
-- take phone call from dparents' preacher
And then after school...
Wmart... got dmom's bday gift
Dmil's w/dh
Supper w/dh, ds, dgs (ddil working -- we ate @ restaurant she doesn't like.)
Dparents' house:
-- sort the mail
-- call dmom
-- print "audit trail"
-- dmom says she will have to call me back, has to clean/flush/do something to ddad's PIC (sp???) line.
-- wait wait wait
-- water plant
-- straighten desk, put misc receipts in chronological order(though they probably should be thrown away! I mean, really, who needs to keep receipts to grocery store & S ubway, etc.???)
-- call dmom back -- no she hadn't forgotten me, still busy w/ddad -- but she takes time to talk me through
-- print balance sheet
-- print ... something else... I don't even know what it was...
-- go over mail w/dmom
* FINALLY * HOME *

Tomorrow will be
* keep dgs
* back to accountant
* deposit check for dmom
* post office
* bank

OH -- and one package to dmom -- which includes a book of checks -- is LOST, apparently! AAUAUUGGGHHH!!!!
Zip code was wrong. * sigh *

Oh well... I'll check tracking on that in a minute...

Harriet -- the bank thing. Probably should NOT say so here, but I have been signing dh's checks for as long as we have been married. I don't recall ever having a problem getting cash back. However... as big banks swallow up small town banks... ANYTHING is believable. Dmom left banking after one takeover in our town... daunt left after another.

Waving to all. :D
Tomorrow is another day.
