Well after a long day and every problem imaginable, we have the shower doors installed and the shower hardware in place. He had so many problems with the shower hardware that we got a late start on the shower doors. He was determined to finish them tonight. He will get the membrane on the floor tomorrow and then can tile over it on Monday. He has decided to take Monday off.

I am wore out. This sinus drainage is making me nauseous. If I am ready for company next Saturday, it will be a miracle.

Kathryn -- I'm so glad you enjoyed the Opry! We were square dancing w/dgs during the square dancing part! LOL -- we don't know how to square dance! We were just playing. I was holding dgs and dh and I were sorta making motion that vaguely might resemble a toddler's attempt at square dancing, I guess. That's about as good as we are. But dgs LOVED it. He just laughed and laughed and laughed.
Did you like Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys? They are some of dh's favorites.
You should try Jack's Bar-B-Que on Broadway, also. One of our favorite bar-b-que spots. Looks like just a hole in the wall, but it's a pretty good sampling of Southern-style bar-b-que. (Although every region in the South has its own sort of style. North Alabama bar-b-que is different than South Alabama bar-b-que.)

Well... it has been a hectic few days here...

Thursday, we did all the necessary business for the funeral – decided to have the service Monday – did I tell y’all that? We were just afraid the body might possibly be delayed getting here and that would just be terrible, so dmom decided rather than stress about time on Saturday, we’d have it Monday.

Friday, I went to school, and we went to dmom’s and we were just exhausted.

I got up today and colored my hair, went to next town, got car washed/waxed at expensive hand-wash place... got dmom some hair color at beauty supply place... bought dgs a couple of outfits suitable for church... stopped by dmom's for a little while... visited w/out-of-state cousins who were there, some church friends of dmom's, and uncle & aunt. Dmom said she'd had plenty of company all day and no, she did not want me to come back later, she was fine.
So then, home, dmil's, supper, babysat, wrapped Mother's Day presents, and now I'm about to go to bed.

Tomorrow we are planning to go to church w/dmom. I was amazed that she wanted to go, but she said she thought she'd feel up to it. I'm supposed to call her early enough that we can go to our own church if she backs out. I hope she does feel like it, though, b/c I'd love for us all to be together in church for her tomorrow. We don't do that on every holiday, and dbro is not often home on Mother's Day.
Then we'll eat lunch out of the smogasbord of stuff that has been brought to her house. ;) She said there should be something for everyone.

I'm still doing amazingly well with this. So well that I'm afraid people might think I'm not "grieving" enough. I told dh, I think the thing is, we were sort of prepared for this since January. We knew his cancer was bad, and even in a best case scenario, he would get the stem cell transplant which would be extremely risky. So we had time to prepare a little. Even though ddad sounded good, looked good, still "seemed" healthy -- we knew his odds weren't good.
So then, when the end came, so quickly, I think I was just sooo relieved that he did not have to linger and suffer and grow weaker and weaker before our eyes. It was bad enough seeing him lose his hair, b/c ddad has always been a very nice looking, youthful looking man, and yes, probably a bit vain. ;) (We are having a closed casket, btw, but dmom wants the immediate family to have viewing time if we want to.)

Another thing is, we have seen that God has obviously been in charge of all this since Day One. So many miracles and blessings have come our way through the last 4 ½ months, that it is hard to question God’s timing in this.
Does that make me sound too callous or something?
Y’all know I had a sorta rocky relationship w/my dad sometimes…but I know I’m going to miss him… I just keep thinking how hard it was for him to be still and especially how hard it was for him to be sick enough to go to the hospital… this way he didn’t have to do much more of that than 4 days. And now we’ll never have to worry about him being sick or depressed or anything ever again.

He’s probably already discussing how to remodel his mansion in Heaven… telling Jesus & St. Peter, “Now when (dmom) gets here, we need to knock out this wall and make the bathroom bigger… she really liked that whirlpool spa pool in Texas. I’d like to put one of those in… and then we’ll see about making this sunroom bigger…”
Tomorrow is another day.
