Good morning everyone! I had a good time at church Bunco on Friday. Saturday, DD11 and I went to the Renaissance Fair and she got the rest of the knight stuff she wanted, made a magic wand, and kicked butt at the Jacob's Ladder game. She won 6 out of 6 times, setting the record, and winning enough to get 3 flutes, 3 candies, and 3 balls. (There were 3 kids on our trip, we went with friends). I told her as we left the fair, no flute playing in the car. Guess what she did, one warning, then I took the flute, saying she could have it when we got out of the van. Thirty minutes of pestering later, I told her she could have it after church the next day. When we got home, full on tantrums for the night. No roof work done, no bra shopping for DD done.
Sunday, DD did not want to go to church, but finally did. Much 'when will this be over' pestering at church. However, when they announced a ladies' Sunday school class, she was interested in going to that! I convinced her to try the children's Sunday school instead, reminding her that the teacher who could not learn her name in a year was no longer the teacher. (He kept calling her by my name and vice versa). I had planned to either go to the State Fair or the amusement park after church, but she wanted to stay home. We did homework and watched videos. Her homework attitude was abysmal, but we do the 15 minutes at a time method, so stuff got done. She wanted to go to the park, which we did, but had to leave when it rained on us. So once again, no roof work.
When DD left, I got some sewing software installed (also works for knitting, and I can modify the knitting stuff for crochet - stitches per inch doesn't change when the technique changes!). I also started with Miller Maids (which is me cleaning my own house). I got FlyLady's missions and detailed cleaning list and got started. Some modifications needed to be made: one thing is take the suitcases to the basement. I don't have a basement and the suitcases' designated spot IS the MBR closet! I got much done, but stayed up too late reading.
Today's doings: pick up my items from State Fair, meet with insurance person, cancel real maids, call about feral cat (caught!), download FlyLady's weekly home blessing, more Miller Maids work, pick up LR and kitchen, groceries, get cat litter and new cat food.
I'm joining the...ahhh its fall crowd with cooler weather and temps. This morning the temp hovered in the low 70's. Finally I can eel the cooler temps coming.
I resigned my part time position last week as it was quickly becoming a full time one. I informed my principal several times that the job couldn't be done on a pt basis, but I think he chose to ignore my concerns hoping I would stay on. Loved the staff, the ids and my job, but knew I couldn't continue. The kids were becoming too attached to me and me to them. I think the administration was counting on this so I would stay. Wasn't fair to all involved as I knew I wouldn't stay and wasn't doing my kids any favors by letting them think I would be there for them.
Anyway, I told the district's subbing dept. to put me on the local hs list as well as keeping me on for my old jr. hs. This morning I received 12 assignments for today. I had to decline due to a sinus headache, but it looks like I will be able to work as many days a week as I choose.
I need to make a dr. appointment for this sinus thing. Usually I need a steroid shoot to counter the sinus problem. Don't want to call this morning because trying to talk to someone in the dr. office is a nightmare on any Monday morning, so I will wait till tomorrow.
My cupcakes were a smash hit at my women's gathering Friday night. Every one is requesting the recipe so I need write and then send it to all the gals. I'm known for my cheese cakes, but this is the first time I've ever made cupcakes. The recipe was so easy that I'm almost embarrassed to post it.
I am meeting a past co-teacher later this afternoon for coffee. She is such a great gal and I am looking forward to spending some time together. In the meantime I am in the middle of a massive decluttering project in my office. If I send too much time
focusing on how much I want to do I will be overwhelmed so I am only doing one area at a time. I don't expect to get everything done at once, but am being as ruthless in this decluttering event as I was with my closet. I'll be glad when I'm
done.
Also have some items to mail, so much gather up everything, address the boxes and take them to the PO. Will drop them off on my way to meet my friend.

I think of my paternal grandparents when dealing with a lack of running water. They farmed in the shadow of a well-to-do neighboring farm. The two didn't compete, because the other farm grew crops. Their land was suited for it, but my grandfather had rock. So he decided to dairy - the toughest occupation because you had to provide water for large animals. After struggling many years, he went to the bank with his hat in his hands and got a loan to have a new invention brought in - the first automatic water pump anyone in area had seen, placed right outside my grandmother's kitchen.
But did my grandmother (who had a mess of young children) get running water for her kitchen? Oh, no, the BARN did. LOL. And then the irrigation to the vegetable crops, and THEN my grandmother's kitchen. All this took time, but when it was finally set up, the community wanted to come see, and sometimes there would be two families at a time, marveling at the pump and wanting to come into the kitchen. And that's how my grandmother got one fancy thing - she filled her sink by turning on a faucet, the stuff of dreams.

I was up very early this morning but did chores instead of turning on the computer. Then I took a long nap with the cats. It's an upside down start to the day but I guess the same productivity, so all is well.
I am, as usual, buried in papers of all types and descriptions. Blech. Ptooey.
I need to make time this week to clear off a horizontal space and set up my sewing machine. I offered to demonstrate making a quick Tshirt cardigan at the sewing group meeting on October 1st, and need to prepare teaching samples. I am daring to hope that once the machine is out of its case, I'll be able to make progress on a backlog of projects and mending.

paid a bill for young man living here (he doesn't know) - he got a bill for the tollway misses (the day he came in from out of town for his job interview) Illinois charges $20 for each missed toll not paid in 7 days so the tolls for going to and from Wis. was 15. 80 for 8 tolls and they added 20.00 to each $70 x 8 plus the 15.80. or $575.80 Wow Illinois has a scam going don't they and we constantly have construction on sites even when they don't need them - one area by my d mom in laws was return 3 years ago and they tore the whole thing up again and it can take past 2 hours to get home here. I received a bill for over 540.00 and I wrote them over and over that I had a transponder - after writing I got an attorney bill and they reduced it to tolls owed when my transponder didn't work. wow

Harriet...when I was living out in the hills of TN on my aunt by marriage's farm there was an old farm house that my aunt first lived in. It was built in the 30's. By the time I moved there, the tiny house had been turned into a hay storage place. It stood on the old farm property and I loved to visit it. The house had 4 rooms and no running water. Outside of the front door, not too far away away was a large hand water pump that still worked, and located in the kitchen by the sink was another hand pump.
My Aunt told me what a wonderful day it was when the kitchen pump was installed. No more getting wet in the rain and snow pumping water to do her inside chores. I don't know how old she was or how long she had been married before they moved into the "big" house...meaning she now had indoor plumbing.
She also had a small herd of cows she bordered for near by neighbors. One was a milking cow. My uncle loved the fact I was a city girl living in the country for the first time. I was in my mid-twenty's at the time. He delighted in showing me the ways of farming. One day when I knew he was in the barn I paid him a visit. He loved spending time showing me all the "tools" that were hanging on the wall and explaining how they were used. That afternoon he came across the milking stool and said to me...Girl, (that's what he always called me) have you ever milked a cow?? Nope I said...He pulled the stool over to the cow and taught me how to milk. Then he said...girl you ever drank fresh milk? Nope I said..then he got some cheese cloth, strained the milk and gave me a cup of milk to drink. Then he said...Girl, you ever made butter? Nope I said. So he took me up to the farm house, got out an old fashion hand churner and we made butter. Then he said, Girl, you know where the butter goes? Course I said...thought I had him at that...in the refrigerator. Nope he said...in the butter mold. Then he got out this antique mold and placed the butter in it and THEN set it in the the fridge. When the butter was set up, he pop it out of the mold and this amazing mound of butter shaped like an acorn squash with this very detailed acorn on the top appeared.
Early the next morning my uncle drove his truck through the hay field over to my back door and honked and honked his horn until I came out...Must have been around 5 am. Girl he hollered, put your clothes on and get in the truck. So I did. He put the truck in gear and said...now I'm taking you to a real milkin place so you can see how its really done. He proceeded to take me to the local dairy and spent the morning explaining how modern day milking was done.

I am thankful for water supply in the house. Also thankful for not having to use an outhouse!
Today was catch-up day. I had 3-hours' paperwork to do, some of it personal, all needed done. Was a relief to have that all cleaned up.
I have a meal cooking for someone who just had hand surgery and can't cook much. I roasted a chicken for her yesterday. Helped DH with the car today, we tried to fix the tired battery but the water and post cleaning didn't help, so he is out getting a new one right now. It's always something.
Dee, annoying when people get an old address dredged up from who-knows-where, isn't it? We just received an overdue check, which went all around the county to old address that wasn't on any of our paperwork...and couldn't be forwarded because we hadn't been there for so long. But because it was a tear-off check on a folded over postcard, they could see it was money, so they did deliver it here instead. I was grateful for that. This is the 2nd time this company has done this. Last time they called for new address, having gotten their check back. Sheesh!
I haven't done a thing off my to-do list but I'm exhausted.
Dh has been contracted to record a course for the internet so he's busy writing that. He'll do the recording in the tv room, the most soundproof of the rooms in the house. That's also the room where I'm staging things to be sold/given away.
I'm going to be selling my desk in my creative room so, while ds is still here to help, we moved it into the tv room (right next door.) The issue was that the desk was piled high with stuff as is the standing desk in that room and the floor was covered with piles as well. So I spent the whole morning working on those two rooms.
Once my desk was gone, I set up a temporary desk on an old music keyboard stand using a piece of wood leftover from dh's desk upstairs (which we've changed from a U-shape to an L-shape.) So I've got most of my working space back for now, although I'll lose a set of drawers when dd takes her furniture.
I also vacuumed while I was working around so my creative room looks much, much, better. TV room, not so much.
Sold the snow tires & rims. I'm meeting the guy tomorrow at lunch time downtown. They are now loaded in the car.
Put the 3 snow tires up for sale after taking pictures and moving them to the garage from the shed. Moved most of the summer garden decorations into the shed.
Had a great choir practice.
Exhausted. Not sure what is for dinner. I think probably a stir fry.
