I am going to be a wise owl, although I may use bw2's costume as a backup!

I met with rabbi this morning and spent a few minutes signing cks and checking in with office manager, then went to WW to weigh in. (Long story, but didn't get there yesterday.) Was up one pound, not unexpected and could have been worse. I went to a bookstore and bought some little board books for the three families here who have infants, then to Michaels to get baggies and stuff to fix them up.

This has sat here awhile as I've answered several emails and surfed online. I am going to read the paper - got up late at 7:30 and got to the temple around 9 - it's hard for me to get out of the house quickly when Macs wants to walk and yet is so slow.

I am going to do a crockpot soup for supper, need to run to the store in a few for the last ingredient....

I had a nasty migraine yesterday and an waiting to see if its gonna rebound today. In the meantime I have completed all morning routines, fed the doggies, and picked up all the footprints.

I can't do much when I'm hurting, but listening to a book helps me focus on something else when I'm in a headache state of mind. The book its self is amazing and the woman who reads it has a voice that is almost hypnotizing.

I don't expect many visitors tonight...I have a few treats though just in case. I made sure it was candy that Sweetie likes

We had a new walkway put in beside our garage and wall...fence to you. The guys were here for three days digging and setting things up before they poured the concrete. They built a retaining wall, installed drains to allow for our backyard water problems and poured a beautiful walkway. Don't know why I am so impressed by it, but to me the whole project is a work of art...who knew cinder blocks could look so beautiful....next I will help Sweetie paint the retaining wall so it will match the rest of our house and walls....remember in this community as in most of the communities in this area....backyards have walls made of cinder blocks as fences. This came from a practice years ago when the desert was irrigated by water canals. The yards were flooded and the walls kept the water in....

The Hohokam Indians built a canal system some 10,000 years ago. They wintered here in the desert and summered up on what we call the Rim...north of Phoenix, elevation some 8'000 feet high and a 2.5 hour drive from here. They diverted the water from the Colorado River to irrigate their farm lands here in the valley. They left this area some 2-300 years ago. The reason is unclear. They left behind an irrigation system that marvels that of the Egyptians. When the Mormans first settled this area, they used the old canals as streets. Later they understood the importance of the canals and started using them in the purpose they were meant for.

In Modern Day, the canals are still used to deliver water to all of the Phoenix areas. We had a water canal in my old neightborhood. You can travel extensively for miles by following the canals...in fact many bike and walk ways have been established just for this purpose. At my school, and in fact at most schools, the yards and fields are flooded by the canal system...the gates are opened and the water flows from the canal to the schools through a pipe. The sidewalks become islands. The kids are so used to it, they just ignore the seas of water. It was a most amazing process to me when I first moved into the area.

Dreadful weather here. Was thinking what Lucylee was thinking and LOL'd at Twin's questioning if that was a bad thing!

I'm back from the church office. That went very well, with me having a good chat with the supply minister. I still don't like her services (although they are getting a bit better or I'm getting used to them!) but she is excellent at pastoral care and her last service had people talking (in a good way) so I was able to pass along positive feedback to her. I'll be recommending we extend her contract until June.

Had a chat with ds this morning. He had a great skydive today and was excited to tell us about it. His van-mates are wearing him down a bit (they focus a lot on drinking) but he's still in a pretty good mood.

Dd got off about 45 minutes later than she had hoped. We'll see her tomorrow so it wasn't at all a traumatic separation. It is nice that I'll be seeing her so often over the next while (twice this month, once last, at least once in November and at least once in December, not including any trips I make to her.)

I've had my lunch, worked a bit on Sunday's service (need to write prayers of the people and an opening prayer) and I'll head back out to the library and liquor store to pick up a video and more boxes.

Need to get packed for tomorrow, do some laundry, do some housework and, and, and....

Spent about 1 - 1 1/2 hours on the phone with a techie from the Philippines to get my Nook to download 3 kids games ages 4+ for..... ME! Anyway, we had a lovely talk about Halloween celebrations there. The honor the deceased, like our Memorial Day, go to cemeteries, with flowers, etc... and then go home for big parties. I always love to ask questions because I learn so much. When I went to put in my Wii-Fi password, I hit the wrong thing and it disappeared! I had to start from scratch and it's such a L-O-N-G password, given to us by the Geek Squad. I could've fainted when I needed to re-insert the entire lengthy password. I have those "eye things" to deal with, too, so it's a bit more challenging, but it worked out fine. I was proud of myself.

I DON'T NEED TREATS!

But I'd LOVE TRICKS! I have such sore hands from crocheting around and around dgrson-4.5's afghan yesterday, have 4 more rows to do, but just had to exit it from the great room to store in the bedroom. Good thing, too. My hands are stiff, throbbing and so sore. Then, 1st thing I do, after I get off the phone with the techie man is play a kids game, poking millions of times with my pointy finger to get my score from 250,000 up to 350,000. My kitty cat doesn't like all my sound effects I do with my mouth when I'm all excited like a 4-yr-old child playing her game! But ol' gramma had fun. Now I'll rest my hands, work slowly on snail mail, NOT crochet, and am so happy that it's day #2 of not having enough dirty clothes to do laundry!

Kathryn, I saw the costume, it was so adorable and cute. I hope the witch isn't dead though. Thanks for sharing.

We had light showers in the night, woke up to a clear day of on and off sun breaks, and it looks like it'll be dry for trick or treaters, too. HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYBODY!

Sorry, I've been overwhelmed and unable to CUOP since yesterday sometime, so I'm sure I'm missing everything. We're fine just so much going on.

Spent much of the a.m. today editing for ds for some work stuff.

Progress... progress...

DH and I walked 1 mile only -- it was getting really windy and beginning to rain, plus dmom called on phone and I was trying to talk to her over the wind... etc etc... we came on inside.

BEFORE we walked however, remember, I had on my lace-up shoes AND bra, plus t-shirt & walking shorts, of course...
so... I managed to
* s/s guest bath toilet, AND
* clean dh's shower floor and part of the sidewall. (As long as the floor is cleaned, the shower looks pretty good, but the walls could be a lot better too. I'm trying to do the floor every week and part of the walls.)
* Also sorted through a HUGE -- HUGE -- amount of papers -- magazine clippings, things I'd saved from internet, etc etc etc. These were piled on top of a bunch of other books and stuff on my bathroom vanity/desk. I threw out a lot of stuff, but the things I wanted to save are now in a pocket folder, and I will continue to work on organizing this stuff into something usable.
* Called the bank and found out that yes, my check has been deposited for this month.
* Talked to ds on the phone.
* Put a load of clothes in the washer.

After we walked, I hung the clothes to dry, put away the things that were dry, and s2s.
Also put my ceramic pumpkin out on the porch and set a flower arrangement in a ghost vase beside the candy basket.

Good afternoon folks! I did make church dinner and Bible study last night. I had good intentions to do such useful stuff as: job search research, party cleanup, crochet. What I did: mostly reading! I did bring in the trash and recycle bins, which took 20 minutes due to the crutches. It was threatening rain, so I brought the Halloween storage bins from the back porch to the kitchen. That will make it easier to put stuff away, but I will not be able to put the bins in the shed until I am off the crutches.

My Halloween costume was dictated by DD11's. She wanted to be a knight and needed a royal figure to send her on quests. Therefore, I am a queen today! I have her for Trick or Treating, but am obviously not going to walk the neighborhood. Fortunately, a friend invited us over and her daughter is going to take the kids around. Before that I need to pick up DD, feed her, work on vocabulary with her, and pick up some snacks to take (party leftovers!).

A strange thing happened this morning: when I woke up, my bedroom smelled of soap! I never figured out why, but I am not upset about it. There are much worse things to smell than soap!

Cowinkie: I hope your migraine is better by now. I had one too this morning, but meds have made it go away. You have much sympathy from me and some virtual hugs and hot tea. Sometimes, egg drop soup helps mine, not sure why, but it is side effect free.

It's time to get LO dressed in costume and start the trick-N-treat rounds. I told him we would go see GG (one of his great grandma's) first.

LO thought for a moment then asked in a greatly concerned tone "But how will GG know it is me?"

*phew* Taking a tea break and peeking in. Full day. . I finished updating the notebook last night at 11:30. Felt good to have updated info and reminders to share with the new childcare coordinator. I also got in a jog yesterday! Did I share that already?

Today so far:
x found teen sub for teen worker who couldn't make it to moms group nursery this a.m.
x basic getting ready to go - shower, gather things, including about 7 binders full of papers that have been sitting in our bedroom related to moms group children's curriculum (I think several of the binders are repeats of each other)
x met with new childcare coordinator at 8:30
x moms group
x lunch; indulged in one episode of P & P while eating. (53 minutes)
x emailed and talked w/ ds re: payment for his meal plan. He walked me through the web site, and I paid it. Then, I figured out which # to use to transfer $$ into his account! So, he is now set -- not that he was concerned.
x made vet appt. for Maia; the site of her surgery is looking raw
x started breadmaker
x drove all of 1/8 of a mile to shopping area to get rice and Hallowe en candy. It was raining out, and I didn't feel like walking and getting soaking wet, though it probably would have been faster. Temps are very mild, so it is not wet and cold. Still, not a great night for trick or treaters.
x a little tidying in the kitchen
x subdued hot spot; it can't be put completely out until dd18 gets home from tutoring and puts away her stuff, which is 75% of the stuff there.
x took Maia to the vet; her skin is reacting to the stitches. He took part of one set out. She has some antibiotics to take just in case. He did not charge me!!
x afternoon tea -- now!


Next - I need to prep for Thursday dinner. S and R and Mrs. Physics are coming. And baby J.
- start ricemaker
- prep and put squash in the oven
- finish unloading/reloading dw
- s/s main bathroom
- mix up peanut sauce
- saute chicken w/ some of the sauce; the rest will be on the side
- leaf in the table for 8 of us.

Friends will probably be here around 6:45, and this list will probably take me until then to complete.
