I just lost a LONG post. I lost my hotspot for a second and didn't think to copy this.

Kitty, I actually did like poetry as a small child. I didn't enjoy studying it at my high school. I think the school's English curriculum was ambitious, I was young - summer bd + skipped a grade (but so had most of my classmates by the school's design), and I was also immature, imho. I was also more of a math and science kid in high school and English was my least favorite subject. . .until my Sr. year (age 16) when something clicked in my brain, although I was always a big reader.
kitkat, I do that too, get sidetracked by the small tasks. Sometimes I never get back to the large task I need to do. If I can write those small tasks on my list, it goes better for me.
trissie, you're lucky to have a classmate who is a theater director! Sounds like a fun evening. You've got to do that once in a while.
You're here so you must have a magic touch with the internet, Doggedly.
Lauralind, I hope you can get a sample easily from Casper and that he is on the mend. You're amazing being able to fix your crochet project.
L Ann, WTG on your morning walk.

We got to the bnb around 9 pm last night (10 pm our body time) after stopping by a fav restaurant for dinner, very nostalgic! It's a very nice bnb - open and spacious, nicely decorated, and with lots of large windows. Dh and I are currently sitting in a nook that has two walls of floor to ceiling windows. We could see the lights of the city through the windows last night. Even better -- there are 3 coffee shops within a 10 minute walk, and we're half a mile from a very large WF and a mile from the walking path along the lake (Colorado River). Downside: the welcome book with wifi info that the rental company promised us is not here so we don't have access to the home's wifi. I messaged the company last night but have not heard back yet. Fortunately dh always has his own wifi and I have a hotspot on my phone.

It is 75F and forecast to get up to 84F. It's going to be a gray day but rain is not really expected today. I think I'll need to shave my legs  so I can put on capris or shorts.

I went to WF first thing this morning so we could have coffee and dh could have his morning yogurt. We're not big breakfast eaters.

Doggedly, you do a very good imitation of a morning person, so you must be being quite kind to those with whom you chat to manage it! thanks!

Errand Day for me. I seem to be going out to eat for lunch, and didn't know it. We have our plan for errands, not very inspiring :) so HRH is thinking positively of them and combining with a favorite meal to pick up while we're out.

I saw the topic and the first poem you mentioned, Kittykatt, went through my mind. And, yes, Hiawatha, with its imagery (including the sometimes-seen hand motions that children were shown) was right there in memory. A blood-pressure-lowering cadence. And impossible length! The Highwayman was also not right for children at all  and also of impossible length, but fascinating in its repetition. These were in the Childcraft books, illustrated, and remarkable exercise for the imagination. As a youngster, I stared at the pages.

Last year when I had an odd medical treatment, one of the long list of potential side effects of which the pros were duty-bound to inform me was potential effect on the brain and the possibility I'd surprise family with forgetfulness, however temporary. That lit such a fire under me that I plunged into recitation and pressured myself to remember the poems I'd committed to memory over the years. I was especially determined when my daughters would visit, and insisted that they listen to me recite, lol. Very healthy to keep up the memorization of youth, and harder than you think, so gratifying when you get it right!

☀️Good morning!

Kittykatt, thanks for the start and things to ponder on.

Kitkat, some days I chase my tail too.

Hi LAnn.

Laura, good luck with the crochet. Hope Casper feels better.

Trissie, the play and meetup sound like a good time.

(((Dogged and Germane))), maybe things will look better on the other side of a nap. Or a shower. Bummer about the alarm tests. Gee, how reliable is it if it has to be tested multiple times…seems there could be a more efficient solution.

Helia, sorry about the lost post/no WiFi but glad you made it safely and are enjoying your trip.

Hi Harriet. Memorization is a great tool.

Some days I can knock out a bunch of little stuff and some days that takes up my whole day so I focus on a big item and do little things to break it up. There’s always something to do.
I know in my head I could make more progress if I just do the things but since those things are never done, most of my chores are repetitive, I have to alternate ways of doing them to get them done. The SHE method of one item per card didn’t work for me so I made a long list. That intimidated me so I broke it down into portions of the day (morning, afternoon, night). That gets boring so I made my daily have to list and swap up the rest depending on my mood or the urgency of what needs doing. Or I go room by room. Or focus on one thing with small breaks to do the have to’s. Like yesterday, my main focus was catching up my planner so I could deal with paperwork. I’m several years behind on paper. Now that my planner is up to date the next goal is a pile of paper. I have moms, dh’s moms, his brothers, and ours to deal with and each has their own subtopics. But since they’re all passed away I haven’t had any sense of urgency or the desire to even look at it. I have to stop putting it off and now that there is some distance, just deal with it. Thursday is usually paper day so maybe I’ll make headway then. I’m just rambling now.

Today we are/were supposed to go to Hollywood to drop off stuff and take donations to a shop but since neither of us is moving yet I’m not sure what the day will bring. I’m winging it.

Lost my list when I copy/pasted so let me go get it.

So...
I have a spiral notepad on my counter. The page I divide into 4 or 5 parts. (Go, Call, (Online), Buy, Do)
I write my list before/on Monday and try to check off as many as possible. Some items get transferred to the following week.

Back in a bit - need to take pup out.

Hi, again! I worked on sweeping/washing the floor, but it took me close to an hour, and I was just using swiffers so no idea why so slow. After that, I was up to the point of the radio shows I wanted to listen to, so I parked myself and played a game on my phone until my attitude turned around.

kitkat, freezing rain is the worst! We have been lucky to escape it so far.

Hi, L.Ann. WTG on all that you got done already.

I'm with kitkat and Lauralind, that trying to do things as I see them just sends me spiralling. I like your idea of putting them on a list so that they are not forgotten, Kittykatt. I could use Alexa for that, so I'm not stopped in what I am doing. Alexa's clumsy about anything other than the shopping list, so I might just use the shopping list as my To Do list.

Lauralind, you remind me of kitchen cloths that I crocheted. My favourite pattern was crocheted on the diagonal so that it would make diagonal stripes, but I always ended up with a parallelogram, just as you said. I have never progressed past the beginners stage with crochet, but still enjoyed it.

It's taking me too long to CUOP. I'm still on Page 1, but I'm still stopping so that I can get some stuff done.

Friday
Cleaned up after dog X 2
Put dog in the sink and spot-cleaned her
Put on a pot of coffee
Tried multiple times to get Alexa to play the radio
Power-cycled Alexa
Checked internet: both modems down
Checked for outages: neither ISP reports and outage
Powercycled both modems
Tested internet: working now
Tested Alexa: still not working
Powercycled Alexa
Watered plants
Swept
Washed floor
Dog came out and started peeing off of the end of her pee pads. Tried to lift the corners to keep the pee on the pee pads but could not get there fast enough
Washed floor
Replaced tissue box on desk

Dogged - I loved crochet on the diagonal... Made several blankets for DGkids:) It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or not- still relaxing, kind of like meditation. Sorry about Germane's issues...
Lauralind hope Casper is fully recovered.
LAnn does DD like spicy food? (I do...)
trissie
did you do all that? That is a big list! WTG
Bama walk at sunset sounds so nice:)
Harriet I used to memorize poems... Tried that a few years back to improve my memory ... I was NOT all that successful:)
Currently, I make myself memorize people's names as I meet them in my classes.:)
helia glad to hear you arrived safely and that you like where you are staying. (Coffee shops are bonus)

Took pup out, it's still rather chilly and windy... Unfortunately, I have an awful foot and toe pain . I put all my helpful ointments on it - no luck... I did enjoy the stretching class until we got on our toes... :(

Next:
lol
DD dropping in with coffee
WH shopping for tonight.
