Good morning / good afternoon, L.Ann, Helia and KitKat!

I'm glad the doctor appointment went well and was uneventful, L.Ann.

Helia, you're so right about phones and kids. It certainly takes a lot more effort on the part of responsible parents to monitor and check their child's use. I don't think G had a phone until she started high school at nearly 12 yo (her birthday is in September so she is one of the oldest kids in the class), mostly because it's a lot further to walk than her primary school that was just minutes walk away.

KitKat, yikes about the trees coming down, but how nice to have relief from the heat, even though it was only temporary.

Well, today certainly hasn't gone as planned. The clutch on the car, which had been slipping but reasonably stable, suddenly decided to deteriorate rapidly, struggling up the hills with a strong smell of burning clutch. I made it to church, gave it a good hoover a good polish and hoover inside, and hoped a few hours rest would help it settle down. At least when I drove home the burning had stopped, but the clutch is now so worn it was barely driveable. But I managed to coax it up the hill at a crawl and, of course, it was ok going down the hill to home.

I got an Uber to take Jude to her appointment, and was glad I did, as she has lost 210grams (around 8oz) since last time.πŸ˜€ Then, DH had arranged for one of his friends to give me a lift home afterwards. DF PM is giving us a lift to church on Sunday, and my appointments tomorrow are both within walking distance and in the same direction. The car is booked for repair on the 20th and I have no cat appointments booked until Fred on the 22nd. If we get an emergency before then, I'll just take another Uber. ( I'm not taking a cat on the bus, as we'd need to change buses, and the buses are so unreliable they're useless if you have an appointment and need to be somewhere at a particular time. And also Freddie with his " big feelings" and other people in close proximity doesn't bear thinking of!)

I've also managed to book appointments in August for both Jude and Matilda, and sorted out Freddie's Healthy Pet Club subscription (he's upgraded to the "Advanced" as he has so many appointments, but I've kept the Girls on the standard rate for now).

We lost another pool shed in last night's storm. I view this along the lines of quokkas dropping their babies for preditors or lizards dropping their tails. We leave a pool shed out near the building so that when we enrage Zeus or Boreas and they start throwing heavy objects, there is an attractive and low-cost target nearby while the tenants stay safely in the apartment building. Of course, this system's success depends on the tenants to have enough sense to leave the pool in thunderstorms and high winds, and so far they have had.

Thank you for starting us off with another pretty duck, Kittykatt.
They ended up having to cancel the Canada Day events for safety. We had flooding and a lot of lightening with the rain. I feel sorry for the people who worked so hard to organize the events and the visitors who came in from out of town for them. I don't remember them ever being cancelled before, except for the fireworks that had to be moved to another day due to rain.
I'm glad that your heatwave has broken and that you have kinder temperatures to deal with.

So true, L.Ann. Just when we feel comfortable with our tech they go and change something.

I'm sure that you get to see many beautiful sights with your hiking, helia. WTG on keeping your weight steady through that hectic time.

Sounds like a good family night, kitkat.

And that brings to the end of Page 1. I think I'll start with dusting and floor.

Hi, L.Ann.

Thursday
Drained a couple of bowls of condensate from the air conditioner X 2
Put away dry dishes
Cleaned up after dog
Heart pill for Germane
Checked out pdf viewer on Linux PC. Switched to web browser
Found a recipe in breadmaker manual
Set up breadmaker
Filled/started breadmaker
Dusted
Drained the air conditioner
Changed pee pads for dog and air conditioner
Found a carpet beetle. Sent him off on the adventure that is independent living in the great outdoors
Started going through contents of small box. Discarded cable. Found box for grow light. Found the grow light, put it away and logged it so that I can find it in the future.
Swept
Breakfast for Germane: she graciously accepted dog food with probiotic
Washed floor

Oh, what a delight! My new mouse is set up, it worked like a charm with no fuss, and, while this is not strictly necessary for its functioning, it is pink.

Hi Dogged - I think the heat is getting to me:
I assumed you were talking about a real mouse.
Did the crazy downpour affect you in your area? oh... I just read!
It was a good night - except for getting soaked on our way in...:)

Worked with DGD on building a golf course from a kit. She has a fantastic attention span: it took us an hour and a half...
Dropped her off for her kitchen camp.
Returned an item to a store.
Just back from store walk with ddog. I would not torture pup outside. Ridiculous. Even this was tiring. (She is sleeping)
She was amazingly good. Got lots of compliments.

I need to eat then check on clothes.

To be fair, kitkat, I didn't specify what the mouse's function is. It could have been cheese tasting.

I took a break to watch Mod Squad and eat the crust of my breadmaker bread. Now I'm questioning whether I want to leave this air conditioned apartment to bring boxes to the basement and/or do laundry. I did ask myself if I would like to get into my non-air conditioned car that is sitting in the sun with the windows up, to sit in rush hour traffic to deposit my OAS cheque. The answer to that was a resounding "No!"
